  1. Hi, we are not new to the diet as my son was diagnosed 2 years ago at 4 years old but this coming school year will be the first time I have to pack a school lunch for him so I feel very nervous about it too. Here is what I have come up with so far: tuna on Ener G foods light tapioca bread peanut butter and jelly on the above bread taylor ham sandwich...
  2. Hi, my family will be vacationing at Long Beach Island, NJ this summer and am a little concerned about feeding my Celiac son there. They do not have any fast food chains on the island so that means no Wendy's or Burger king to fall back on. Anyone ever been there and any ideas for eating? Nicole
  3. My son started with very hard, painful stool when he was first introduced to cow's milk at 12 months. Throughout his early years he was always constipated and every doctor he ever saw (we had trouble finding a good ped.) would come up with a new plan to help him, stool softeners, prune juice, mineral oil, etc. Needless to say, nothing ever helped for long...
  4. If it is any comfort to you, my son was scoped at 4 years old and handled it very well. It wasn't a terrible experience for him. Nicole
  5. Hi, my son uses kids Crest as well as colgate sometimes depending on the flavor they want. Never had a problem. Nicole
  6. I don't understand why he said that he wasn't looking for Celiac because she is too young for that. There are plenty of parents here that have babies with Celiac. But my question is, what else is he looking for? Are the suspecting another illness to be the cause and is that why he wants to scope? Nicole
  7. Hi, my son's levels were normal after a year. I don't know when exactly it got there, I do know that 3 months after diagnosis his levels were still high but not after a year. As far as a gluten challenge, I have never done this as my son was given a postive Celiac diagnosis. I am assuming yours wasn't because it they were you wouldn't be doing a challenge...
  8. Ian's gluten free fish sticks and chicken nuggets (and I believe their corn dogs) are not only gluten free but allergen free as well. So are the products made by enjoy life. They make cereals, cookies, and cereal bars. My son was diagnosed Celiac at 4 and we took him off gluten we saw some improvement. But then after a while he was sick again so we tried...
  9. This just reminded me, before my son was diagnosed at 4 he was terribly constipated everyday. The doctor of course kept saying "more fiber". So I in turn go out and buy frosted mini wheats and every morning he would eat a big bowl of frosted mini wheats in milk. Of course we find out later he is not only Celiac but dairy intolerant too. Isn't that terrible...
  10. As I am sure you have already read, the tests aren't always accurate with children (or adults too for that matter). Especially if you already had him gluten free. A postive response to the gluten free diet is a "postive" result in itself. If it wasn't gluten, he wouldn't be feeling better off of it. I can't think of anything for your family to read either...
  11. Gas is definitely a symptom of glutening. My son has Celiac and he would be very gasy when he was eating gluten. Nicole
  12. Hi, Wendy's doesn't show the fires as being gluten free because they want you to question the particular Wendy's that you go to to make sure they use a dedicated frier. I am assuming that it is not a Wendy's policy to use a dedicated frier but when you call and ask about the fries, thats what they tell you to do. So far I have not found a Wendy's that does...
  13. These are the ones I was talking about earlier. They look and taste as good as Tyson.
  14. We buy Gluten Free Naturals pizza crust. They are a small company out of Cranford, NJ and they unfortunately do not go with any distributors as of yet. They sell privately to the local health food stores. But you can purchase them directly on line at www.gfnfoods.com. Nicole
  15. Hi, my son was 4 when he was diagnosed and he is now 6. He actually took very well to the gluten free diet, it is the dairy free diet that he struggles with (he was a tremendous milk lover). We don't all eat gluten free in my house but after 2 years of having the food in the house, it no longer tastes odd to those of us who don't have to eat it. My point...
  16. Hi, my father has Celiac and was very sick with diarrhea prior to diagnosis. He says he saw great improvement within the first week. My son on the other hand, was diagnosed 2 years ago and we were still seeing a lot of symptoms consistantly for the 2 years until finally a doctor said to take him off milk. All of the symptoms have now gone away. We saw...
  17. Hi, I have been on a quest for gluten free/dairy free cheese that can be put on pizza. I found it for those who are interested as well. We used Vegan Gourmet's Monteray Jack cheese. We shredded it ourselves. The only problem is that it does not melt as well as real cheese so I followed the suggestion and put it in the broiler for a few minutes when it...

    ARCHIVED Friendly's

They probably don't want people getting the list and using it to choose from and then they change something in the ingredients. Some people might not know they should check every time they go rather than just getting one list and using it every time. Last I heard, their hamburgers, no bun of course, are gluten free as are their hotdogs. I thought someone...
  19. Hi, don't worry, you didn't sound inconsiderate. We just have all been there and it doesn't change how frustrating it is. The watermelon is a good idea. I e mailed the teacher last night, being a working mom, sometimes it is the only way to communicate with her quickly. Thanks for all the ideas. Nicole
  20. I agree here. We shop at Whole Foods about once a month to get my son the gluten free things we can't find at the 2 health food stores I shop at. My husband came with me once and decided to buy some fruit. He picked this little bag of cherries and when we got to the register the lady said, "do you want to know the price before I ring them up?". I asked...
  21. My son drinks West Soy Rice Milk. It is rice milk, just made by the West Soy company. He likes it a lot and we can barely keep up with buying it he drinks so much. If we can't get that brand we buy the Whole Foods brand. Nicole
  22. I believe they think the pretzels make it a "healthier" party. Earlier in the year I missed a PTA meeting that my sister had gone to. She said they discussed school parties and limiting the junk food. For Christmas they did a breakfast and had things like bagels and muffins, as well as fruit. For Halloween I think they did pretzels and popcorn, but no...
  23. I would not expect them to revolve an entire party around my son. I understand that this is a way of life for him, as does he. But it is called being conciderate. If you were having people over for dinner and someone was allergic to seafood would you serve an all seafood menu or would you give that person at least 1 option that was not seafood? Maybe...
  24. I have never told her that it upsets me. But she does have a list of acceptable foods for him that I provided at the beginning of the year. She is not the original teacher for this class, the real teacher is on a maternity leave. She was a little more dedicated to being helpful. I chock it up to her being new at it. As I said, I have been teaching for...
  25. I sent a note in to the teacher asking what they will be serving at the kindergarten promotion party. I got the note back today. they will be eating pizza, ice cream cups, and pretzels. My son is dairy free as well as gluten free. I just don't understand why they couldn't have included something he can eat just this one time since it is his promotion...
