  1. The school district will do an evaluation even without a formal dx and determine if he is entitled to any services. We never got a diagnosis for my son other than hypotonia and developmental delays which is more of a symptom than a disorder in itself. He was evaluated by the school (psycologist, social worker, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and...
  2. I can so relate. Both my boys (one celiac one not) have always gotten up way too early. We spent about 2 years getting up at 5:30 everyday, no matter what time they went to bed. I concider 6:30 to be sleeping in . My sister lives next door to me and as my day is already way in progress, her blinds are still closed until about 9:00 . Evidently her...
  3. Hi, my son was given a spinal tap and it determined meningitis. So we staying in the hospital for several days waiting to see if bacteria would grow and indicate it was bacterial. It did not so they said it was viral. My son who is diagnosed Celiac complains that everything hurts him when he has been glutened. I can't even wash or towel dry his hair without...
  4. I just read an article on it and it is interesting because it mentioned crashing into objects. Which is something he used to do during the licking stage. He used to crash into walls and doors.
  5. Hi, after turning 3 my son exited out of early intervention and entered our pre-k handicapped program in our school district. He receives PT, OT, Speech, and feeding therapy to help with his "food" issues. They have recommended different textured foods as a way to help him tolerate them better. But he still prefers soft smooth foods like pasta and if there...
  6. Could a person with SID "outgrow" the severety of syptoms as they get older? My son was being seen by an occupational therapist when he was with early intervention but I don't recall hearing about SID but he did have the licking issue, textured food and strong taste issue, and poor muscle tone. At 3 he was still licking, now at 4 he has stopped. This is...
  7. My son was 4 when he was diagnosed. I explained to him that his body is confused and thinks that some of his favorite foods (I explained which ones) are poison and they are making him feel so sick. He understood it very well because he knew what poison was and I never had to explain it to him again. He now tells people when they offer him food that he...
  8. My youngest son who has not been diagnosed yet (blood came back negative) has always had sensory issues. He does not tolerate well anything textured or anything with a strong taste. He gags and vomits. I have to specify which antibiotics he can handle because for example Zithromax has a gritty feel to it and a strong taste (I believe cherry) and he throws...

    ARCHIVED Shrimp Scampi

Do they serve it over rice at Carrabbas? I make it at home and my son loves it but it would be nice to have somewhere to eat out that is not a burger joint. I know he would enjoy it. Nicole
  10. Since they labeled the allergens (milk and soy) I am wondering if the starch is corn based. I am going to call and find out. I would hope that they would have also labeled wheat if it were in there. Do they have to abide by the new labeling laws or is that just for packaged foods? Nicole
  11. We took my 5 year old son to Cheeseburger in Paradise last Sunday and noticed that the mini cheeseburgers are not labeled as gluten-free on the menu. All of the regular cheeseburgers are listed gluten-free but it says to order without the bun (of course). So I asked our server if I ordered the mini's without the bun are they then gluten-free. She said...
  12. Your scraring me. I explained to the waitress that I did not see the gluten-free next to the mini cheeseburgers and she said they are cooked separate from the bun and are all meat. But I did feel as though he has been acting as if he were glutened this week. He had trouble pooping earlier in the week and complained of his "butt" hurting. He has also been...
  13. The other day I was skimming through the "eating out" section of this forum and came across a topic about the Outback having a Gluten Free menu. Within the topic someone mentioned that Cheeseburger in Paradise also has one so I looked it up on line and found one about 20 minutes away. So we went last night and the kids had a great time. Even the french...
  14. Hi, what cake recipe did you use? I have used a chocolate cake mix from the Gluten Fee Pantry which is good but tends to turn out dry sometimes, kind of like the consistency of a devil dog. I also have a good receipe for a yellow cake but none for chocolate. Nicole
  15. I believe they are only different in respects to quality. They are supposed to be one of the best at diagnosing for Celiac. I am not sure why the doctor doesn't send it to the regular lab my insurance company makes us use. I wonder if they don't do this test, or maybe just not well. I am not sure. Nicole
  16. Has anyone ever had a negative experience with Enterolab? They seem more affordable but I worry about the doctor not knowing of them. Nicole
  17. Mouse, this is completely off topic but your picture is so funny. Everytime I run across it, it startles me for some reason. Can't figure it out and thought I would share. Nicole
  18. Hi, I called my older son's ped. GI today to ask his opinion on having my younger son tested through Enterolab. Apparently he has not heard of them and doesn't agree with testing through the stool. I explained how Lucas has been showing symptoms like his brother (constipated) and also he is developmentally delayed with Hypotonia. He said he would send...
  19. Bree, just in case this of some interest to you, some other forum members have been discussing how to get Oprah to do a show on Celiac. A story like yours might be a good lead in to how undiagnosed and disrespected an illness Celiac is. You may not want to go "that" public but I thought I would throw it out there. Nicole
  20. It's funny because if you go on Kellogg's website and click the "what is gluten free" link they state that unfortunately none of their cereal are gluten free but that some gluten intolerant people may be able to eat Rice Crispies as there is only a very small amount of malt in them. The suggest we speak to our doctors about it. Nicole
  21. How many of us, after hearing a loved one was terminally (sp?) ill, prayed to God for their recovery. And in the end they died anyway. We do not feel as though God did not spare our loved one for any bad reason. It was just their time. My father died of a brain tumor a year ago this October and you can bet your life we were praying for the entire year...
  22. Hi, Lucas was part of Early Intervention too. Thank God those services can be provided. Lucas' gagging was not as severe as Megans so I am sure it is going to take some time. I hope it works as well for her as it has for him. Nicole
  23. If you look on the "parents" part of this forum there has been 2 cases in which parents had their children taken away by protective services while trying to get them diagnosed with celiac. Apparently some doctors with too little knowledge of celiac decided that they were having unnecessary tests run on their children and claimed the parents have MHBP. When...
  24. Hi, before my son was diagnosed with Celiac he loved Honey Nut Chex. The only offensive ingredient is Barley Malt Extract. Now I know Barley is a no-no. But I was hoping that since it is an extract it may be ok. I doubt it, but just wishful thinking. Does anyone know? Nicole
  25. Hi Tanya, I have mentioned before that my son has hypotonia and therefore has a gagging problem due to poor muscle tone in the tongue and cheek muscles. At 3 years he entered the handicapped pre K program in our public school where he receives physical, occupational, speech, and feeding therapy. He is somewhat older so it is probably done differently and...
