  1. I bought my son Amy's Lasagna this weekend. It says on the box that it is not made with gluten ingredients. But under the ingredients there is an allergy warning stating that the product was made in a facility that also makes wheat (among other allergins) products. Doesn't that then mean it is not guaranteed to be safe? Nicole
  2. Could be just a fluke but after reading McDonalds website explanation about how the the oil for the fries has wheat as a flavoring ingredient but once cooked there are no detectable amounts of gluten I allowed my son to eat them again (bad choice, I know). We get take out as a treat probably once a week. After a month of eating McDonalds again (approximately...
  3. I know this sounds ignorant but the last poster said it has been hard but their making it. Do you have to pay to home school? It would make sense I guess because you have to get the follow the curriculum I just never thought about that before. By the way, I do not think public school is necessarily better than home schooling just because I am a teacher...
  4. I absolutely agree that no child will want to be singled out with extra work. I actually just heard a mom complaining the other day because her child was in the gifted program but was still expected to do the "regular" work, potentially doubling her work load, you are right, that is not fair. I know that the "barbarians" do exsist but my point was simply...
  5. Wow, that is a very interesting description of the children in the public school system. I don't believe my own children behave this way at all and are well socialized in school. Not to mention, I teach in an inner city low income community. I work in the projects. My "kids" don't fit this description either. While every school has there handful of bullys...
  6. Here in Jersey it seems that the Ped. GI doctors and Morristown Hospital seem to know what they are doing. We loved our original GI, he was warm, caring, and very interested in helping my son. But it seems as though he wasn't able to care for him well enough. For example, when my son was given the blood test the doctor called and said it looks like Celiac...
  7. This is going to sound like an ignorant question but why is he unpublished? Is it his choice or is no one willing to publish him? I have been apprehensive about using them for fear of a false positive (which I have never really heard of before). This little boy happens to be a pasta boy and he will eat the gluten free pasta fine with with sauce but he...
  8. Hi, as I have mentioned before my 4 year old is showing some signs of Celiac. He is constipated, has distended belly (although it is hard to tell because he is a bit chubby), and has developmental issues. His brother was diagnosed almost 2 years ago. He has had his blood tested for antibodies and it was negative but we all know how that goes. I spoke...
  9. Hi, make sure you speak to that director, don't give her/him the option to get back to you. I worked daycare before I became a public school teacher and if the child didn't sleep after 30 minutes of quite time we would have them sit quietly with books or puzzles while the others napped. Believe it or not some of these kids do sleep, who know when bed time...
  10. Have you spoken to the director of the program about the nap time situation? I believe head start is a state run program which means they need to be (should be anyway) following state guidelines for pre K education. I am a teacher and believe me, if anyone is threatening or mistreating your child over nap time it should be reported as that person needs...
  11. Don't forget about mashed potatos. Unless he has a problem with potatos most kids like them. You could also make the turkey with gluten free stuffing so that there is not a concern of CC. My son is a bit older (he was 5 last Thanksgiving) but he ate turkey, mashed potatos, and maple carrots (carrots baked with butter and maple syrup so they are soft)....
  12. Hi, no one even concidered Celiac for my son as he was always ahead of the milestones and over the 90th percentile for height and weight. He was severely constipated, distended belly, dark circles, hyperactive, and very emotional. My father has Celiac but his symptom was major diarrhea and therefore, very, very thin. Around the time my son was 4 he was...
  13. Nini, We tried the Glutino honey nut O's rather than the apple cinnamon ones and they were a huge disappointment. Have you ever tried this brand and if so how does it compare to Perky O's which will be my next try? Nicole
  14. My son did have GI issues but his behavior is surely affected by gluten. I can tell right away went he has ingested gluten. He just turned six and when he is glutened he is bouncing off the walls. He becomes extremely hyper active and cannot get anything done. There are plenty of people on here that will tell you that children did not have the classic...
  15. Hi, I'm not sure this would be good for a main dessert of Thanksgiving but my mom always makes this really good jello mold. It is a combination of sugar free jello and sugar free cool whip. She makes it in a ring and then scoops cool whip into the center. It slices up almost like a pie filling. It is very good. Nicole
  16. I called McCanns and asked this question. They said that they can say that their oats are not processed with wheat but that they cannot say for sure if they were grown along side oats. So I guess there is still some change of CC. Nicole
  17. Hi, I try to choose places to eat where the fries are gluten free. Then I order him a cheese burger or hotdog (no buns) and fries. Friendly's hotdogs, burgers, and fries are gluten free. We also go to Cheeseburger in Paradise for the same reason. For some very odd reason, he will only eat instant potatos, so mashed potatos out for us is not going to happen...
  18. Hi, I have a Celiac son who is 6 and a 4 year old son who is not yet diagnosed. He has some problems that can go with Celiac such as constipation and developmental delays but I have a question regarding what dermatitis problems are connected. His name is Lucas and ever since he was an infant we have had trouble with his skin. Starting with eczema and a...
  19. I agree with this statement. Whenever I eat something gluten free I am comparing it to the gluten version. Like the bread crumbs I keep bragging about. I think they taste like the real thing. But they are the real thing to my son because he will never remember the gluten version of anything. They are lucky in that sense to be diagnosed so young. My...
  20. I think that some of the ore-Ida fries might not be safe (I believe it would be the extra crispy ones). But the good thing with them is that on the bottom of the ingredient list there is an allergy warning in bold print. I believe it says that it contain soy. Double check though. Nicole
  21. We have had the Ian's and the Wellshire Farms chicken nuggets and both are good. But I just discovered Ener G Foods gluten free bread crumbs and when you follow the recipe for fried chicken it tastes pretty much like the real thing. I was so excited. In the past 2 weeks I have breaded both chicken and fish and made a meatloaf. I can't wait to make meatballs...
  22. My son was "just" constipated from the time he was an infant until around 4. Never knew it could be a symptom of Celiac even though my dad had it. Then he turned 4. Well that "just" constipation turned into something I never want to see again in my lifetime. My poor kid was in agony each time he had to go to the bathroom. He would shake, sweat, and scream...
  23. Besides the Dora Cereal, I also buy Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles. For snacks I buy fresh fruit, the cups of Mandarin Oranges or peaches. Betty Crocker fruit snacks are gluten free. Meats and veggies are usually safe unless the veggies are frozen in a sauce (always read the ingredients). I also get Orida frozen fries. Jello pudding cups are safe as are Hunts...
  24. I think you should just explain to her that it is unsafe for your daughter to eat anything that has been cooked with gluten, even if the part she is eating did not "touch" the gluten. Since she has been so supportive it was probably just a lack of fully understanding. Nicole
  25. Hi, my Celiac son is almost 6 year old (b-day on Friday). So far he is handling the diet very well and we are not a "gluten-free" household. But, we don't eat anything in front of him that we know he would like. For example, my husband loves donuts. Well if they are in the house they are hidden and only taken out after he is in bed. Any dessert that...
