  1. Welcome to Celiac.com Popeye. This is an older topic so you might want to start a fresh one to avoid confusion. Having said that you should look at diet or environmental changes. Are you and your family eating gluten or been tested for Celiac Disease? The symptoms could fit the profile. Palmitic Acid is an omega 6 that is added to feed to increase production...
  2. That Celiac Disease has been ruled out by biopsy does not mean your symptoms are psychosomatic. As @trents said it is simply the first step in diagnosing Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. The next step a wise doctor would take is a trial Gluten Free Diet to see if your symptoms improve and then a Gluten Challenge trial to see if they return. He could run a...
  3. Your bloodwork indicates you are being very compliant with the GFD. Well done! GFD does not intrinsically mean a healthy diet with sufficient vitamins and minerals. Some are in fortified wheat products; some are simply lacking in the western diet. Vitamin D deficiency is very common in Celiac Disease, but its effect is mostly improved mental health and mood...
  4. What an opportunity for you! This is a search of "gluten free in Europe" on Celiac.com. https://www.celiac.com/search/?&q=gluten free in europe&quick=1&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy This article may help.
  5. Nsaid use can cause low bilirubin. What are the causes of low bilirubin? "A 2017 study suggests that lower bilirubin levels might make it harder for the body to remove reactive oxygen species. These are linked to inflammation associated with ulcerative colitis." Just my own thoughts, but bilirubin acts as an antioxident and your son has lots of inflammation...
  6. This chicken little claim of too much protein started in the early 1960's, back when Weight Watchers was using slices of bread equivalents to compare different foods and TV dinners were ramping up. Next came too much fat. So I question: How is it that the Iceland Eskimos did not have diabetes until they started eating a western diet? We are struggling...
  7. Ever made paper mache? Or pancakes? Add some sugar, baking powder and milk to the paper mache slurry and leave out the newspaper and you've got pancakes. Don't overthink it. DH I understand is very slow to resolve. From your description you are deficient in many different vitamins. Take something like Geritol Multivitamin and an additional large amount...
  8. Insulin doesn't cure diabetes either, just helps people live with it.
  9. Serotonin Syndrome Serotonin Syndrome and Thiamine: Is There a Connection? Antidepressants can cause thiamine deficiency. Either reduce the SSRi or increase Thiamine. Since it is a good idea to talk to the doctor about it, increasing the B1 (thiamine) is safe, and if you feel better, it will be a talking point. Regarding Tart Cherrys. Red Leaf Lettuce...
  10. Any reason to continue now that you know what caused your eating issues. I ate gluten for 63 years. Talk about anger. In the meantime make sure to replenish your vitamins. Celiac Disease is one of malabsorption. Here is a chart that may help. The RDA is the daily amount that will ensure 95% of the population will not get the diseases the deciding committees...
  11. Read the intro, skim the research protocols and read the discussion and conclusions. 😉
  12. So Celiac Disease is literally a pain in your butt 😊. Dr Pauling recommended 2000 mg a day of vitamin C but like vitamin D the RDA and RDA upper limits are too low, in my opinion. Here are several conflicting statements in the same article from NIH. Vitamin C Fact Sheet for Health Professionals "Initial symptoms can include fatigue (probably th...
  13. Adrenal Fatigue is considered by many as quackery. Adrenal Insufficiency however is an official diagnosis. I have Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency from the prednisone I had to take for the fibromyalgia. The fibromyalgia got better with GFD, but the insufficiency stayed. I went from 30 mg/day pre-GFD to 5 mg maintenance.
  14. You might double check for cross contamination of the balela or the tortilla. For example, falafel, also from chickpeas but Osem has wheat in it. Same with their potato pancake mixes. Some people have withdrawal symptoms for two weeks or so. Wheat is an addictive product. Canyon Bakehouse Heritage Style Honey Wheat is my favorite. Normal size slices...
  15. Do you use milk in your morning coffee? I drink a lot of coffee throughout the day and finally noticed that as the day went on, I put less milk in it so that by bedtime it was practically black. Caused a burning in my gut. Sometimes woke me later and I had to take an Alka Selzer to go back to sleep. Switching to 100% Pasture fed, no grains dairy solved it...
  16. Herbal antimicrobials such as oil of oregano and berberine may work in the same way as Rifaximin and are commonly used in functional medicine as they may be gentler on the system. What Is Hydrogen Sulfide SIBO and How Is It Treated?
  17. If this is correct you are so, so deficient in D! Deficient is anything less than 19 ng/ml. A lifeguard in August is 90 mg/ml. Part of the differential diagnosis if multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Try to get a vitamin panel. You are likely also deficient in all the B vitamins, choline, iodine, potassium, zinc, etc, either through malabsorption...
  18. I waffle on that very question. On the one hand I want to know what my levels are with the supplement and don't care what they are without if they are good with because I take them to make up for what I don't eat enough of. On the other the B's store about a week's worth so to be accurate as to what I get from diet alone I would have to stop for 10 days...
  19. Yes. Gluten is addictive and also affects the same neuroreceptors as heroin, so some people have withdrawals and cravings. As knittykitty mentions vitamin and mineral deficiencies are common with Celiac Disease. If you are avoiding eggs and meat, be sure to get enough choline. Minimum is 450 mg a day and upper tolerable limit is 3500 mg a day. That...
  20. If you are low in folate you are probably low in choline and possibly B12 and B6. Low vitamin D is also common in Celiac Disease. Beans are a good source of folate. Folic acid is synthetic folate almost as good and in the US the two are legally interchangeable. Eggs , steak and liver good for choline. Folate Fact Sheet for Health Professionals ...
  21. This is the worst part. You know you feel better gluten free, but if you are gluten free it will affect the test results.
  22. HI, welcome to Celiac.com. Unfortunately, it looks like the results you posted came out all scrambled. Are you taking Portia birth control? did they give you a prescription for folic acid? Full Blood Count is not normal but is acceptable? If they told you that you are OK, yet you feel like crap, then no, you are not overreacting...
  23. This is my interpretation. Homocysteine is considered an independent indicator of vascular inflammation ie., cardiovascular disease. The nutrients most involved in its metabolism are B6, B12, Folate and Choline, all susceptible to malabsorption syndrome caused by Celiac Disease and Low folate, B6 and B12 have been addressed in the US population by...
  24. If you have South Florida PBS, Dr Hyman has an annual special that they broadcast as part of the membership drive. As does Drs. Fuhrman and Amen and Davis.
  25. 79 nmole/L is equal to 32 ng/ml. The best benefits seem to be around 200 nmole/L (80 ng/ml). Because greater than 75 nmole/L (29 ng/ml) is deemed sufficient to prevent Rickets and osteomalacia and the committee that sets the RDA maintain that there is not enough evidence that vitamin D has any other function, you will be told you are good to go. You are not...
