Low or deficient vitamin D is a common finding among Celiac Disease and other autoimmune diseases. "A study by researchers at UNMC shows vitamin D as an add-on therapy could provide some relief for chronic hives, a condition with no cure and few treatment options....Researchers found after just one week, the severity of patients' symptoms decreased by...

Not enough potassium in the diet. Diarrhea can cause excess potassium loss which is why the World Health Organization, and many countries consider potassium status a nutrient of interest. The US 100% DV for potassium is 4.7 grams (4700 mg) daily, while most countries use 3 grams a day for the RDA. While plasma levels of potassium are regularly checked... -
What's nice is the Heritage style ends up the size of a real sandwich, not something made on melba toast.

People who keep kosher know how. Meat from milk or gluten from gluten free. They have to be even better because of their supervisor.

With Celiac Disease you want to replenish vitamins so the target intake should be somewhere more than 100% DV and less than the RDA safe upper limit. It isn't easier but you reap the rewards. A food log with vitamins and minerals content. It does not include iodine or lithium. http://doodlesnotes.net/index3.html What I Supplement: Thiamin...

I hear your anger. Been there. Everything you believed in has turned on you. Give up all processed prepackaged food. Boycott the cereal aisle. Get a bottle of high dose vitamin D. See what happens. I think 10,000 iu a day is best because you want to raise your plasma vit D quickly.

It may not be a power struggle. Maybe she just wants you to share the bliss of a gluten meal. Not unlike drinkers at a party pushing alcohol on a recovering alcoholic. They just do not understand and are oblivious. It was similar back when cigarettes were cool.

Here's an interesting comment from the National Institutes of Health on Choline. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Choline-HealthProfessional/ "Groups at Risk of Choline Deficiency: Patients requiring total parenteral nutrition At present, choline is not routinely added to commercial parenteral solutions for infants and adults [28,29]. Is Lithium Deficiency Real? Health Effects of Low Lithium With everybody drinking bottled water more people are becoming Lithium deficient. The 5 mg dose of Lithium Orotate is not the 600 to 1500 mg massive dose of Lithium Carbonate used for bipolar disorder. The proposed RDA is 1 to 40 mg a day. I found that with 5 mg a day I don't need the Buspirone...- 17 replies

Try Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free Heritage Style Honey White. It's not Wonder Bread but pretty good. Good taste and mouth feel. Keep it frozen. Nuke the frozen slices for a minute and let cool. It makes a nice sandwich. If you are Celiac there is a 44% chance that so is your little one but the symptoms are not recognized or passed off as normal.

DO IT. Don't wait on the doctors because they have no official guidance in this. Procrastination is dangerous, if it is the problem, improvement will be seen. Fix what you know is wrong and reevaluate. For only $15 a bottle of choline bitartrate or phosphatidyl choline may save her life. The use of prednisone may be an appropriate...

Wheat is an opiate Read this article it may help you understand. https://drdavisinfinitehealth.com/2012/04/wheat-is-an-opiate/ Don't feel guilty about anything. It is sad you are even in the position but remember they are addicted too, just don't know it. That's why they get angry at the suggestion of not eating wheat. It's unamerican....- 17 replies

Could the doctor order a blood draw by the home health nurse to see if the celiac panel results have changed or at least to get a basis to compare again later? No reason for another endoscopy especially in her fragile state I am sure she does not want anesthesia if it can be avoided. The TPN was formulated prior to the celiac disease diagnosis, so...

See if you can get her to do a urine test for iodine deficiency. The NIH maintains that the US population is sufficient so not usually checked. The average intake of iodine has dropped 50% since 1970. Iodine Absorption in Celiac Children: A Longitudinal Pilot Study Iodine Fact Sheet for Health Professionals -
bingo! More information: This case from 2014 seems similar to yours. Their case resolved with only 5 days TPN. "In the majority of RCD type 1 cases, steroid use is effective in inducing clinical remission and mucosal recovery; however, use in RCD type 2 shows clinical response in 75%, but does not induce mucosal recovery or prevent the progression...

On the other hand, think of all the new unprocessed foods you can try now that you are not bloated by all the "filler" foods made with cheap wheat. It is kind of like moving to a new culture where your old favorites are not available, so you find new favorites. Some people go through a mourning period at the loss of a best friend.

Weight gain
Wheatwacked replied to Sheri Barbell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sheri, welcome to Celiac.com. Many people have weight gain, others have weight loss. If your GI recognized Celiac Disease from the cat scan it seems that she has experience and knowledge, so you are in good hands. She may want to run a Celiac blood test and endoscopy to verify. Celiac is an autoimmune response to the gluten in wheat, rye and barley. It... -
It is my understanding that unless looking specifically for Celiac Disease and picking the right spot for a biopsy, it can easily be missed in a standard endoscopy. How many have posted here with "definitely not Celiac" only to be diagnosed 10 years later? When my son was diagnosed it was finally seen on his third endoscopy. Just the diagnosis of...

As a just weaned infant my son born in 1976 suddenly bloated up. I was shocked when I looked at him and remembered newpaper photos of Biafran babies shortly after the Biafran Relief contracted for supplies of the new "green" wheat instead of the rice they had been buying. Convinced he was not "just colicky", and it was not maternal stress (numerous recommendations...

NALFD has been linked to Choline deficiency. Add to the fact that most Americans don't eat enough choline (4 eggs or 15 oz steak or 10 cups of cooked broccoli a day) choline is absorbed in the small intestine so the effect of Celiac Disease caused malabsorption syndrome added to not enough choline in the diet could cause significant effects to your liver...
