  1. Famous last words. Follow his advice and stay sick or do GFD without antagonizing your doctor and see what happens. You still need the doctor for your TD1. Eventually he may notice the improvement and ask what you are doing to get better. Doctors generally don't care what you eat. Their response to me when I say I am gluten free is "well, everyone has preferences...

  5. Go with his diagnosis and ask for a nutrition consult familiar with Celiac/NCGS. Either way the treatment is GFD plus resolve vitamin deficiencies. You could push for a biopsy, but in my opinion, it won't change your treatment. It will expose you to a procedure requiring anesthesia and the low risk of a tear and more costs. Celiac Disease does sound...
  6. Iodine is absorbed in the small intestine. If you are reaching the minimum RDA like most Americans and have malabsorption syndrome (from Celiac) you will be deficient.
  7. Try 100% Grass Fed milk. It tastes better and does not irritate my stomach the way regular milk does. Even picky eaters will eat when presented with food they like. As a picky eater, please don't make eating one food contingent on another. I learned at an early age to just say no when asked if I was hungry.
  8. Even if your tests are negative, who is more right, your gut or a lab test. If the gluten free diet and vitamins help enough to keep you off IBS medications, that's pretty indicative that you have a problem with wheat. Treatment for Celiac and NCWS (NCGS) is the same. Gluten Free Diet and resolve any vitamin and mineral deficiencies. In addition to the vitamins...
  9. Where have we heard this before?🙃 I think 10 years is the average from complaint to correct diagnosis. It is good to have physical evidence biopsy or blood work but your body is already telling you. Whether you choose to continue eating gluten while waiting for tests or start GFD, vitamins are the key to recovery.
  10. There are around three hundred symptoms associated with Celiac Disease and your descriptions match. Has your doctor checked your vitamin D level?

  12. After 30 years of uncontrollable alcoholism, one week of gluten free ended my addiction. 8 years later on GFD and I can take a drink for social occasions but generally prefer not to. I had a list of 18 different symptoms that improved with the gluten free diet. Trust the evidence of your health diaries. You might find Dr Fuhrman's books enlightening, a cardiologist...
  13. That's the vitamin D talking. They call it Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) but I think it is the vitamin D deficiency. I had a similar response after a few days of 10,000 IU of vitamin D. The essential vitamins and minerals are required for your systems to function. If you don't eat them through food then you need to continue to supplement. You are...
  14. There is no fish or bacon that is vegan.
  15. I found it was the undiagnosed Celiac Disease that triggered my alcoholism. I drank for 30 years to alleviate pain and fatigue. The obvious diagnosis was stop drinking and smoking and you will improve. Never happened. After less than a week of GFD I bought a bottle of Saki and did not drink it. Before GFD I had no problem finishing 500 ml vodka or saki every...
  16. It impedes the profit margin The damaged villi don't absorb vitamins well and eventually can get to the point of malnutrition and misdiagnosis. That may be where the story about potassium...
  18. Should be. Growing up iodine was used as a dough modifier. Each slice was 100 mcg and a glass of milk was 100. 300 mcg per sandwich and glass of milk. The US population intake is half what it was in 1970. It was left out of the nutrition database. The first thing I noticed when I started one sheet of nori a day was better muscle tone in my chest...
  19. I know the feeling. They get defensive I'll bet. You best effort might be advocating a nutritionist specializing in Celiac Disease. The next step after GFD is addressing any essential vitamin and mineral deficiencies caused by the damaged villi in the small intestine. Doctors are not taught vitamins, nutritionists are.
  20. Trust your gut. First try the thiamine >300 mg /day, you will know in a few days. Cheese will take longer. Are you making 4700 grams of potassium a day? What's your iodine intake?
  21. From the Merck Manual https://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/gastrointestinal-disorders/malabsorption-syndromes/celiac-disease Unfortunately, upon diagnosis many will prescribe the gluten free diet and downplay the vitamin and mineral deficiencies, other than admonish you to eat a "healthy diet". Without the addictive aspects of...
  22. Yes. The hot shower stretching and GFD solved the fasciitis. That was back in 2014 so I don't remember the exact sequence, but the showers helped even before GFD. Enlarged Prostate which has bothered me, sometimes more sometimes less, since I was first diagnosed at 21 years old has completely resolved. By 3 months GFD I no longer needed those Prostate Formulas...
  23. Most of the lactase we need as adults is made by our gut microbes. While quick pickles (pickled with vinegar) carry the name and taste like fermented foods, they don't have the pre and pro biotics, vinegar sterilizes them. Homemade dill pickles are easy and helps. Commercial milk has more omega 6 than grass fed so it aggravates inflammation, while grass fed...
