ARCHIVED Elisabeth Hasselbeck Mentions She Is Gluten-freebarbara3675 replied to wolfie's topic in Publications & Publicity Saw the program too and it was the first time I actually heard them talk about it even at that length. It is a start. Now Rosie knows about it too. Poor thing, she just doesn't know when to keep quiet though. I am one of her biggest fans, but she should have kept quiet yesterday. Anyway, I hope that they keep mentioning that Elisabeth has a gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED Cheesecakebarbara3675 replied to Rebecca47's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications How did you know for sure that the Jello Cheesecake was gluten-free? I love that stuff and had never thought about eating it without the crust. Can't tell you how many of those I made when my boys were growing up and put a can of cherry pie filling on top. Great memories. I also am going to check out the Missy's in the deli section of WalMart.....aren...

To support what the previous people have said....there is a definite connection between fibro and gluten intolerance for me. I was dx with fibro first and then with a gluten intolerance and I am faring much better now with the fibro since going gluten-free. There will always be good and bad times, for me in times of real stress, the fibro can flare up,...

ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?barbara3675 replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease CQILSING----I got it!!!!!! Your quesiton was just all in fun, really, and that is the way I took it. I highly doubt your theory will actually come true. I answered exactly the way you wanted people to answer. Since then I have thought of several things that I would dig into!!!!!!!like crusty french bread to name one, made spaghetti last night and had...

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia?barbara3675 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Gosh, my older brain sure wasn't in full gear here when I wrote earlier. I also have a thyroid condition for which I take Synthroid. I guess I am a textbook case. So, it is dx/fibro, dx thyroid, and then dx gluten intolerant---I have a gene as diagnosed through Enterolab. I still struggle with the fibro at times, but not nearly as much as before. Barbara

ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?barbara3675 replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease GO STRAIGHT TO PIZZA HUT AND THEN WHEN I WAKE UP THE NEXT MORNING I WOULD HAVE A HUGE BOWL OF OATMEAL WITH BROWN SUGAR AND MILK.

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia?barbara3675 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders This could be too little, too late, but my story is very similar. I was diagnosed with fibro at the age of 58 and then found to be gluten intolerant a year and a half later. The fibro symptoms are much better since going gluten-free. I take a pretty good dose of magnesium with malic acid which was recommended by my health food store owner who has celiac...

ARCHIVED Homemade Soft Chocolate Chip Cookiesbarbara3675 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Bought some Ghiradelis chocolate chips on sale at the store yesterday and followed their recipe on the package adding Bob's gluten-free flour and 2 1/2 tsp. Xanthn gum and they are nice soft cookies that you cannot tell they are gluten-free. I can't stop eating them. I think they are among the best gluten-free bakery I have had since I went gluten-free...

ARCHIVED The Closest Thing I've Found To A Real White Bread!barbara3675 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I guess it would be worth a try, the regular EnergyBread is like eating sawdust, I wouldn't spend a cent on it. So far, I like Whole Foods Sandwich Bread the best of all the commercial breads I have tried. It makes a respectible sandwich, although not at all fluffy, but that is o.k. with me and it makes great toast and grilled sandwiches. I found something...

ARCHIVED Muscle And Joint Painbarbara3675 replied to Budew's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Totally in agreement with Ursala.....on two points. First, her theory on fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed first with fibromyalgia and went on magnesium with malic acid and Mobic (which I still take) and then I was diagnosed through Enterolab with a gluten intolerance. Since eating gluten-free, the fibromyalgia is much better with only flare-ups when I have...

ARCHIVED Wisconsin Celiacs Unite!barbara3675 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff In Madison you can eat at Noodles and Company.....order the buttered rice noodles with chicken and veggies and parmesean cheese. They are in Janesville and Appleton too. In Middleton there is the FABULOUS Imperial Gardens restaurant. They will make you most anything on the menu....GLUTEN FREE. They will bring you gluten-free soy sauce to the table......

Topomax works for me also. I take 100 mg. once a day, but am trying to wein myself off of them so am only taking them on S-T-Th-S because of the expense. So far it is working. I get the onset of a migraine occasionally, but take Imitrex 50 mg. and it goes away. What a glorious thing compared to the day when they would come and I would know that a whole...

ARCHIVED Recovery From Neurological Problemsbarbara3675 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders Very interesting.........seems they are honing in on this thing more all the time. I am 61 also and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia first (a migraine patient for years) and then went gluten-free through Enterolab testing. I have a gluten gene and a granddaughter with celiac disease since she was one. The fibromyalgia is much better now and it did take...

ARCHIVED I Keep On E-Mailing Celiac3270 - No Response.....barbara3675 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Nice to see ANY post from you, celiac3270. You were a major player when I first went on this board and it was better in those days, more pure and informational and not so much confrontation. I had been wondering just where you were and whether you even were a part of this forum anymore. It is good to know that you take a peek from time to time. We don...

ARCHIVED Catch Y'all Later.barbara3675 replied to penguin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff You know what......people have different patterns to their lives and they change. I used to read much more stuff on this board than I do now, especially when I first went gluten-free. I come on and scan the topics, read what I want and don't get too bent out of shape over any of it anymore. Occasionally there is something I want to reply to, if I feel...

Ate there recently and beforehand I consulted with the head kitchen guy and he confirmed that they do have dedicated fryers for fries. They serve them as appetizers, they have a bottomless fry situation there, and they are good. I ordered a cheeseburger withouth the bun and would go back again. My mom, who is 88 and eats gluten-free ordered a shake and...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseasesbarbara3675 replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders In agreement with Ravenswood's posting on 9/11 and Nini's on 9/6. I had fibromyalgia and a thyroid problem first and then discovered that I was gluten intolerant through testing at Enterolab. I fully believe that the fibromyalgia is much better due to the lack of gluten in my diet. Doctors just aren't studying up on this because there are not pills for...

One of the things I miss is oatmeal with brown sugar and milk on a cold winter morning......I tried it after being gluten-free for a while and it gave me problems. I know there are some gluten-free people that eat it, but it does not work for me. Some of the things that have been mentioned multiple times, like Pizza Hut pizza, KFC, and good crusty breads...

ARCHIVED Wisconsin Celiacs Unite!barbara3675 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff While this Wisconsin thread is up, if you live anywhere near Antigo, you must discover the Life Without Wheat bakery. They have the BEST gluten-free bakery I have EVER had. I have shopped in Milwaukee, Madison (including Whole Foods and Silly Yaks) and this bakery puts them to shame. The family that owns it all have celiac. I live in remote northern Wisconsin...

ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2barbara3675 replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Wasn't this thread supposed to be about the "Shocking Story" mothers and how to help them instead of just ANOTHER discussion about the use of wafers in communon or not? I don't tune in everyday as I don't have time, but I have tried to follow the poor mom's and their stories. When I came back to this today, it was only about religion, how come? This issue...

It was my thoughts that if you drank distilled alcohol like vodka made from grain that it is o.k. I have had limited amounts of it with no after effects. It was Ruby Red Absolute with canned cranberry juice (which, by the way, is the new hot drink this summer and so nice---a light pink grapefruity taste). I own a tavern and restaurant and drink from the...

ARCHIVED How Long Do Fibromyalgia Symptoms Last After Being Glutened?barbara3675 replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease My fibromyalgia was diagnosed a year before the gluten intolerance (two years ago for the gluten). I take Mobic (an anti-inflammitory) for the fibromyalgia and a good dose of magnesium with malic acid each day and I think between all that and the gluten-free eating that the fibro is much better now. I had a very hectic summer and I was just waiting for...

ARCHIVED Tired Of Waiting For Enterolabbarbara3675 replied to Mayflowers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My results came back one day short of two weeks and I suppose it would depend on how busy they are as to how soon you hear. Be patient, that lab is serving the whole USA. Your results will appear on your email which is neat as you can then just print it out. Barbara

ARCHIVED Enterlab Results - Really?barbara3675 replied to PatrickCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I like what Nancym had to say and agree with her. I wish I could hear Dr. Fine speak and I wish he would go more public or national with his cause. Wouldn't it be great if he were on Oprah????!!!!!!!!!!! It would jump this issue into a new dimension. Barbara

ARCHIVED Your Opinion - Best Bread?barbara3675 replied to NoFlourPower's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Not into baking bread, I buy mine from Whole Foods, the sandwich bread does me fine. I can eat it as a sandwich or toast it. I like their cinnamon rainsin bread too. Barbara
