  1. From what I am learning on this thread I'm quite amazed how some of what Ursual says fits whereas other's don't but as Ursula said she managed to get all the characteristics .... The thing is my parents never made me feel less than others but they did make me not feel normal. My father's friends are mainly scientists, engineers or mathematicians and...
  2. Good point and the problem is identifying the children and why they are stuggling. Some children are stuggling because of the way it is being taught and others perhaps because they lack the applied intellegence to read. What tends to happen is gifted children with learning disabilities are subjected to the same methods as those who lack the basic...
  3. OK lets start off with 10 variations on gluten-free pasta....Im hitting summer recipees mainly here.... Its also more challenging because the pasta takes less time to cook! 1./ Cook pasta... while the water is waiting to boil warm some sour cream and add smoked salmon and chives ... Wait for the pasta to finish cooking, drain and pour over the...
  4. The problem is that in order to transfer complex information the tools available are written .... You are completely correct in many ways but one could take an example of someone who excels at a musical instrument without knowing how to read music. That person can actually be an excellent musician and learn music theory through perception of the scales...
  5. While this may be true and of course society is defined by the majority many of these abilities are not necassarily good. If we can talk about "non NT" as opposed to Apsie it might be easier? I find the whole herd mentality of NT's completely puzzling but it is this herd instinct which in humans leads to tribalism, war and most of the worst attrocities...
  6. Just a little off-topic but I felt I wanted to comment on this before other things.... I think this is the undeclared primary purpose of schools. Not in a conspiracy sense I just think schools all end up with few exceptions basically trying to impose social norms on the child and academic issues are a secondary concern. This one is quite difficult...
  7. Just on a seperate subject: Not meaning to hijack the thread ... This is perhaps a family legend... quite how true it is is based on my mothers memory which I think had perhaps exagerated it over the years.... and is never so reliable anyway. My first words were "give me scissors" after my mother driving herself (her whole family and the doctor) to dispair...
  8. some good thoughts and observations .... I agree and I'm glad you mention that because its the nature vs nurture question. Doubly complex by having a father who is a scientist .. and I obviously inhereted genes as well. However its not the sport itself ... indeed when I was 18 I was competing in solo sports at a national level. It is the...
  9. I might be wrong but I very much doubt she will really even be bothered by these comments. Since we have several professional writers here why not write a measured complaint and let everyone add their names to it and send it to the editor as a complaint.
  10. I find each branch different .. especially not only stocks but storage... Sometimes you find the gluten-free flour under the wheat flour covered in poision... sometimes you find an enormous selection ... it all seems to be down to the actual branch. elonwy: Try a La Tasca (tapas) they are all over London (the one next to covent garden is nice) and they...
  11. If I can just comment back on topics .... would it be an idea for others to do the same? I think Im just looking for some commonality here? We seem to have struck a thread! OK definately not me.... Im fine once the lights are out and noone can see me ... OK I get irrationaly irritated by people talking, moving etc. but overall I still enjoy the...
  12. Firstly it really doesn't need to take long ... the problem is at first when your getting used to it but once you are its really no longer than you want... There are 101 meals that can be whipped up in the time it takes to cook rice or gluten-free pasta. I use this as a yardstick because if you take the time from putting water on to boil to taking rice...
  13. If this makes sense then I think I understand.... Why else would you say it? From my point oif view I wouldn't have said anything unless I was both pretty sure I was correct and able to prove it. If I think something i say I think, If I believe something I say believe... If I say I know something then its usually correct, otherwise I wouldn't say so...
  14. Yes this is my thoughts too
  15. Just an idea but how about using food coloring? If it soaks into anything and you can see it its not 100% clean...
  16. Well I was waiting for an expert to answer... thanks Ursula. Someone suggested I may have borderline Aspergers ... and the symptoms do sound correct... I don't know much about it other than that except as Ursula says its genetic. I wonder about a link between Aspergers, celiac disease and other things like ADD ....is it common genetics perhaps? ...
  17. Yes, but that's not what I meant... what I meant is which is worse for you? Specifically if I eat out and get glutened by CC is it actually any worse to just say what the heck... I'm poisioned now and its going to take me a minimum of a week to get back to normal. Eating a whole pizza at this point is unlikely to make any difference to how long it takes...

    ARCHIVED Upset

My ex was a qualified aroma therapist .. apprently they have one trick they use on disbeleivers because its so effective and immediate... pepper oil is apparently surefire way to rid your C.... If it doesn't work then you can just get a nice relaxing massage which you sound like you deserve anyway.
  19. The bottom line is noone knows. The question is if you have a breadcrumb or CC by mistake is this worse than eating a pizza? I don't find any correlation between symptoms and amount... a breadcrumb can knock me flat the same day or a whole gluten pizza can do nothing for 2-3 days.... Is a small amount of CC (200 ppm of less) any less damaging...
  20. Yuo can also look on the support group at yahoo.... Open Original Shared Link
  21. I'm with you on that.... Not only is this insulting but it also directly causes us problems... next time you ask for gluten-free and the waiter gives you that knowing look, perhaps he has been reading the NYT.

    ARCHIVED Upset

    Taz, these are often symptoms of a glutening. I bolded what a glutening does to me! If you combine the effects of brain fog and withdrawal then its possible you got some CC or hidden gluten.... The most effective remedy is of course {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  23. My experience is low fat anything is to be avoided unless its specifically labelled gluten free. Like most things mayo only takes a minute or so to make (with a food processor) so its not something I buy, not to mention its the sort of thing when you open it you use it and since I need to watch my calories I prefer just making it to order. Having...
  24. The part which makes this sound realistic I bolded... Open Original Shared Link
  25. I was reading this and it struck a raw nerve....amongst others... Not wanting to hijack the thread I thought this might be a good subject for us to share. Not just this, this was that struck me along with the rest of the physcholgist thread. Someone on this board very nicely pointed me towards looking into Aspergers (thanks) bit Im interested...
