1. Of all the products you mention (milk, butter) the one you have to really watch is yogurt. Dannon has made a public announcement (somewhere, don't know where, but I saw it), that Celiacs should NOT eat their yogurts. Many have gluten and they do not do a good job of labeling, apparently. I've been glutened by Dannon (including the plain) several times...
2. Definitely blowing smoke from multiple places that don't see the sun! Water is Hydrogen (2 molecules) and Oxygen (1 molecule). It can have minerals in it from the ground, like iron, magnesium, etc. But DEFINITELY not gluten which is a protein (not a mineral) found only in Wheat Barley and Rye - none of which are found in water, EVER.
3. Yes, the iodine patch test is a valid test - but I don't know if the concentration necessary is available over the counter or not. I tried it myself several years ago and it didn't work - the 1% tincture doesn't cut it! My Dr. didn't think it was necessary since I had gone gluten-free and the DH was going away from that. When one is still eating Gluten...
4. A co-worker had a Pampered Chef party that I went to - her best friend is Celiac and she knew I was, so she made this flourless chocolate cake for us. It is WONDERFUL! It is very rich and only a small piece is a big satisfier. I don't know where she got the recipe, I don't think it is a Pampered Chef one though. But it is GOOD. For dusting the pan - use...
5. You got me interested! I've given up on bread and rolls completely! Where online can 123GlutenFree be ordered? (I'm lazy - could google, but if you have link, that would help). AND, I was at Uno's near work in Alexandria VA last week and the gluten-free pizza wasn't all that great. It wasn't BAD, but had no flavor. The crust was ok, but the chees and...
6. When I was first Gluten Free the breakouts took about 3 days. I was pretty imperfect at being gluten free though - not on purpose, but by accident and lack of knowledge. After I did my studying of foods and labels and learned a lot, I became obsessive about being gluten free and didn't chance it EVER (except to trust a chef in a restaurant to clean the...
7. I use Revlon and Loreal and have had no problem.
8. Hard to determine from all the complex literature out there: Best I can guess: It is Vitamin E (the ester) derived from vegetable oil - I don't think wheat or barley or rye are often used to get vegetable oil - but don't know about that for the cosmetic industry vice the food industry. I can understand why the companies are slow to respond! They probably...
9. Yes, I eat JIF all the time - it's my favorite.

ARCHIVED Dapsone

I had Dapsone (75 mg/day and increasing too) when I first was diagnosed and it did help. However when I got to 100 Mg the side effects nearly killed me. I had Hemolytic Anemia very badly and my liver enzymes went haywire and I got very sickly. Then my skin started to fall off! I immediately quit the Dapsone and found that I was using it as a crutch to...
11. Dannon Yogurt! Dannon, themselves, say that only the plain yogurt is guaranteed by them to be gluten-free. I have had many reactions to Dannon yogurts when the ingredients list looked ok. They must have a cross-contamination problem in their packaging facility. (with their "granola" yogurts) and their "thickeners". Also did you mean "pepperoni" - if...
12. Yes, I contacted NSI/Vitacost (they are one and the same). Many/most of their products are Gluten Free. Some are OBVIOUSLY NOT: (product has something to do with Wheat and label mentions wheat, barley). I contacted them with a list of the products that I was taking (and had checked the labels on) and got an affirmative reply that they were indeed Gluten...
13. Did you remember to put 1 - 2 tsp sugar in the "warm" water? I once forgot and the yeast didn't "start" (froth). The yeast requires something to activate it (sugar is what most use).
14. Yes, it happened to me with my very old and "weak" stand mixer. I started using the special dough beaters instead of the regular beaters. If you have "dough hooks" or dough beaters that are different than the regular ones, use them. If not, you may have to get them for your mixer. Since I started using them, the problem is completely fixed.

ARCHIVED Flare Ups

Usually it takes about 3 days - sometimes more. If I've been seriously glutened, I now get some digestive symptoms pretty immediately - but not always. I've been gluten-free for about 2.5 years and the longer I'm gluten-free the more sensitive I get. Once I ate a real gluteny food (scrambled eggs at IHOP have pancake batter mixed in them) and got bad diarhea...
16. This from their website: They seems to be taking it pretty seriously.
General Mills Puts Readily-Available, Gluten-Free Breakfast Option Within Reach
Big G Rice Chex
17. I read somewhere recently that General Mills had created a dedicated facility for gluten-free mfg. and that they were intending to make more cereals and foods gluten-free. The box does NOT have the typical "made in a facility that also processes xxxxx" on it - so I'm assuming that it IS a dedicated facility. I'm not as sensitive as some, but I've had no...
18. "Helluva Good" (red container) are mostly all gluten-free. They will list anything that has Gluten, but so far all that I've seen are gluten-free.
19. I, too, have DH that was diagnosed by an allergist by virtue of the fact that she sent pictures of my rash to U. of VA at Charlottesville Medical School and had a Dr. there confirm Celiac (he insisted on calling it Gluten Sensitive Enteropathy or just "sprue/leaky gut") because of the combination of the pictures, the fact that Dapsone caused it to abate,...
20. According to the newly updated Clan Thompson Food Smartlist - ALL TATER TOT varieties, including the seasoned and extra crispy are gluten free. I've had no problem with them. MOST (but not all) Ore-Ida varieties are gluten-free, exception IS some of the seasoned varieties and of course the onion rings (battered).
21. I eat Dove bars and Eskimo bars at home, from the store. There are also some Hershey's bars that you can read the ingredients in the store and then be mostly confident when you buy the same thing from the truck (just check the label quickly before eating). Once you know particular bars are safe from the truck that comes through your neighborhood you can...
22. The M&Ms (Mars) website does not give specific ingredients info, but does say their labeling is good and will disclose hidden sources of allergens. SO, got to read the label! However, I remember a thread on here that talked about another of the "limited edition" flavors - "Wild Cherry" - I remember it saying that Mars had said that the special flavors...
23. Most of Ore-Ida's frozen potatoes are Gluten Free. The ones that aren't are the seasoned ones mostly - but always read the label. According to the Clan Thompson Food Smart List, there are at least 25 varieties (some are different size bags and some Costco, BJ's or Sam's) that are Gluten Free - as reported by Heinz!! Read the labels, that's how I do it...
24. I really have no intention of taking this product, but when the ad showed up I was stunned with that statement - never thinking of the wheat starch/wheat gluten controversy! (Same for Soy, I suppose - I don't have allergy to soy so don't pay attention). I guess we'll see how this newest controversy pans out. I found RICE CHEX with Gluten Free on the...
25. Just when we all thought gluten awareness by mfg's of food and drugs was getting better!! I found this in an ad that I got in email: Read the allergen statement #1 (red) and then #2 (blue) HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??? NOT Possible at all. Absurd. NightKap (30 Capsules) Suggested Usage : NightKap is made to be taken every night, 1 capsule 30...
