  1. We smash up potato chips. Add whatever spices you would like (but no additional salt is neccessary). If you have no allergy problems you can use egg to make the potato chip mixture stick.
  2. I ordered it by the case from am a zon. My husband puts the crust in the oven for 10 minutes (naked). Melts butter, adds garlic powder, (maybe some onion salt too) puts it on the edges. (Sorry it's not more of an actual recipe.) Add the toppings and back in the oven for 10 more minutes. Like I said the crust is pretty bland without. If you are...
  3. OK good to know. I might be able to find that cereal and give it a try with ice cream.
  4. Replacing eggs is a scientific thing I haven't quite mastered! Sometimes the replacement box stuff, applesauce, flax or baking soda and vinegar. Depends on the other ingredients to blend the taste, and how many eggs you are trying to replace. She's been doing fine with peanut butter, soy, casein, hummus, and we are still trying treenuts. We are combating...
  5. I am really excited! I would love to have a biscuit sandwich! I feel like such a dork! I never even checked a cookie crisp box to see if it was gluten free! Did anyone ever add that to ice cream to make it like a cookie dough ice cream? Thanks Foodie gurl!
  6. Raw milk is a "black market" enterprize in the US. It is illegal to sell any milk product that has not been pasturized. The laws can vary from state to state. Some people get around the loophole by joining a co-op farm. That way they have part ownership of the goat or cow and therefore are not "buying" any milk.
  7. As long as there aren't any nut and/or egg allergies ~ I love the Pamelas pancake baking mix. Gluten eaters love the chocolate chip cookie recipe that is right on the bag! There is one trick to working with it, try not to aggitate it/ no fluffing, don't add any air to it. There are so many snack options out there. Keep a food journal. It helps track...
  8. Relax. Your cycle can get thrown off by so many stressfull things. Your cycle can even be thrown off by a new circle of female friends. I don't know if they have a certain term for it but it really happens in sorority, college dorms, and work environments. I would wait a week before checking in with the doctor. But then again, I hate going to the doctor...
  9. Don't be afraid to try other breads. Try some Chebe or gluten free pantry mixes. Hopefully we will find out my daughter doesn't need to avoid all these things. I just feel so lost not baking with eggs. That really adds to the texture of so many gluten free things. I'm really the hold out of the family. I will not eat the bread, but once every...
  10. Hi Atlanta peeps! How is the job market in the area? We are thinking of calling it quits here in Michigan and are putting out job applications. Some nice warm weather might be nice for a change. Considering the Tigers baseball game might play into the early evening temperature of 40 degrees (not counting any wind chill).
  11. You need at the very least the kitchen aid home model or stronger. Gluten free baking requires longer mixing time. (egg replacement baking too) If you plan on making any gluten free bagels or any denser dough type things, definately go for something stronger. The bagel dough has a way of pushing the pin out on my kitchen aid. I can't do a double batch...
  12. When you are stuck avoiding other allergens too, NRG has been a lifesaver. You must grill or toast it. You just adjust to the taste and texture.
  13. For Celiac testing you need to be consuming gluten. A gluten challenge (intentionally eating gluten for enough damage to show in blood tests and biopsy) can be dangerous. The fact you had your gall bladder taken out at such age is (in my opinion) a red flag for celiac/gluten intolerance. Along with your list of symptoms. You should be taking...
  14. Hi gfMel, I am so sorry I am running out of time to give you a proper informational post. If I am remembering right, HLA gene + auto-immune search should find some articles with a possible GBS and Celiac connection. I have to run out the door. I don't even know when I will have a chance to even look at the computer again. Possibly on Monday, so...
  15. She is 12 and now is the time for her to start her healthy food choices she will base her life on. The next day you have a break from the schedule you need her to start thinking and preparing her own menus. You have less than 5 years before she leaves your home and will be completely on her own. I started my 10 year old son cooking 2 years ago. To help...
  16. Start taking some sublingual vitamin B12. There are known connections to Celiac and Pernicious anemia. (This technically would not show up in an ordinary blood test iron level.) This would involve the intrinsic factor of the gut lining to absorb vitamin B12. Thyroid problems can become life threatening and you should work with an endocrologists. There...
  17. If the pain continues, or is cause shallow breathing, please see a doctor. My friend kept blowing off the pain, and ended up being hospitalized. It was pleurisy that was compounded with pnemonia. I think she had the pleurisy first and developed the pnemonia from the shallow breathing.
  18. If you are going to be tested for Celiac you have to eat gluten. A food journal is very helpful starting a gluten free diet. You can be sensitive to some of the gluten free replacement flours. For instance, I can't seem to tolerate sorghum. Alot of people complain about Lay's products too.
  19. Glad to hear your feeling good in Texas! I'm up and out of bed. I am grateful for there have been days I have been too sick to be up and out of bed. My plan of the day is to avoid catastrophe, take the time to do something kind, and realize I am one day closer to achieving my goal.
  20. Have you tried fruit smoothies for a breakfast? I am not a big breakfast eater. I do find that I am thirsty in the morning. I glass of juice is better than nothing. What if you tried going for a quick morning walk around the block with the dog to help wake up? I know it is hard to reset routines, so maybe you can work on this when she is on summer...
  21. I only saw a segment on a morning news show. He cut up the chicken bone cavity, added chicken skin, flour spices and placed it in a food processer. Then he asked the kids to raise their hands if they would like to eat the chicken nuggets he was making. Pretty much all the kids raised their hands. By that time I really felt like vomitting. Those kids...
  22. I think you might want to add the "experiment/study" for the gluten free diet for the mental health patients. The study showed a gluten free diet helped . (I believe they had been diagnosed as pyschotic.) The patients were able to decrease the medications. The patients were also found to be vitamin B12 deficient. There was also a story of a very notorious...
  23. Hi Stef, Most of the gang is still here. Wow you have been through a lot of stuff! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Glad you came back!
  24. I would LOVE the home cooked meal! Have you found any places that are just gluten free? Some of the places here in MI that are strictly gluten free don't have huge signs or any over the top signs announcing gluten free. I even asked if this was "the gluten free" place just to make sure. Relax and go at your own pace, but don't wait too long. She is...
  25. Can they just order a side salad from the pizza place? It seems like this can be solved with a few suggestions here or there. A veggie or fruit tray? Don't risk losing a job you like in this economy! As union steward you see how some things are solved with some give and take. If ordering a salad with the pizza is so costly, then you still have incentive...
