  1. The first year I was gluten free I reacted to vanilla. It could have been cross contaminated from before diagnoses or my body wasn't healed enough to handle it. The vanilla top is smaller than the diameter of a dime, and I always use a clean measuring spoon (if any) during baking. Would you mind posting your recipe? I have been looking for an awesome...
  2. I was having some pretty bad attacks. I had the ultrasound. Showed nothing. The stomach emptying test. Showed nothing. Finally had the HIDA scan. It brought on the same pain and nausea. Had the gallbladder taken out in Feb. I feel a million times better. Oddly enough, I haven't been suffering from seasonal allergies yet. If you have a bad attack...
  3. Always have an alternate, safe snack on hand. Ask that all snacks come with the original packaging or be in the original container (kept safe from cross contamination). You won't have to guess about the safety of the ingredients or handling. i.e. Ask that cheese and cracker platters be kept seperate. Fruit and cheese plates, etc.
  4. This is an old post... It was before my daughter was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitus. Her breath smelled really bad. She would also have speckled tonsils that looked like strep. Gluten can be a trigger for eosinophils.
  5. The only thing you can do is try and get the appointment moved up. (Which is very hard working with a specialist that can take 3 months to get an appointment with.) The patient has to keep eating gluten to be tested for Celiac, EE or other eosinophilic gastro issues. The endoscopy WITH BIOPSY can be used to rule out a few different disorders that have...
  6. Try some sublingual vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) Celaics tend to need to supplement B12. Other associated disorders i.e. Pernicious anemia will require B12 supplements too.
  7. If I ate straight gluten ~ Usually the big "D" in about 15 minutes, or sometimes the lovely projectile vomit. If it is maybe a little cross contamintion ~ agonizing stomach cramps for about 3 hours, and then the big "D" spread out in about three bouts until my guts are empty. If gluten goes in is is coming out one orafice or another until it's all gone...
  8. I feel like a jerk even to say this to you right now, maybe you should try casein free too. (There seems to be casein connected to some of the tummy troubles "milk in coffee and yogurt" Let your gut heal. If there was a lot of damage happening to your body it doesn't magically disappear because you switched to gluten free. The mood swings are part...
  9. There seems to be a saying of "once you have one auto-immune disease it"s just a matter of time before you get another." A few people here have mentioned small purple bruises, which I believe is a primary symptom of ITP. I have them myself, and have not been able to find a doctor to even now what kind of test to run. So as soon as we can find doctors...
  10. sb gave you some great advice there! We had to do some extreme diet restrictions in our house for the last 2 years. Some of those restrictions have been challenge approved and are being added back in. Guess what? We have found we have some "new" favorite foods. Never even tried hummus before~ love it! Liz Lovely cookies no gluten, casein, egg don...
  11. It is possible that you are sensitive to some of gluten free replacement ingredients that you are eating now. I find that sorghum and I don't get along so well. Peas are known to be a higher reactive food. Pea starch is used in some of the gluten free products. Are you trying gluten free oats? For some Celiacs the protein chain is too similar and even...
  12. The esophagus definately has the furrows (the grooves). There is some of cream colored pus stuff in the furrows. The doudendom (sorry can't spelll today) has the creamy speckled look. Talk to your doctor about the possibility of Eosinophils. (The name of eosinophils is because of the cells absorbtion of red dye.) My daughter was vommitting up to 5...
  13. Going back to your scope on the esophagus, what type of damage was happening there? Did you have any biopsies taken from the esophagus? Do you have a copy of that report? Do you have pictures? Eosinophilic Esophagitis was only given a standardized medical code in October of 2008 (if I remember right). Doctors might not be fully aware of all of the...
  14. Please ask to be reffered to a pediatric gastroenterologist. Or at least food allergy testing. Having to watch your child vomit on a daily basis for no aparent reason along with the other symptoms are reason enough.
  15. Sorry to hear that. You tried! You stepped out of the box and learned something new. Life lessons aren't always easy.
  16. I have become more of a "foodie" because of gluten free! You can recreate foods that you loved. I recreated a four layer chocolate cake with alternating layers of chocolate and white chocolate mousse. Gluten eaters can't get enough of this cake. I can't go anywhere without people asking me to make it for them once they have tried it. Therefore...
  17. Hi, When my daughter was diagnosed we were told to buy Danna Korn's book, Kid's with Celiac. Some things might be out-dated by now, but it does explain testing results. It really did give some insight to the social changes of the gluten free diet. There are many branches of R.O.C.K (Raising our Celiac kids).
  18. They just don't warn you that this diagnoses turns your life up-side down. You find out who you friends are, because this much change brings out the best or the worst in those around you. You have to change yourself too. You will have to stand up for yourself. You will have to take more time with waiters ordering a safe meal. You will have to...
  19. I'm sorry to tell you but you can have a gall bladder problem and Celiac. My gall bladder was making me really sick and it definately was better or worse depending on what I ate.
  20. Everyone has a different rate for healing. It could take up to a year to see real improvement on a gluten free diet. You should be taking some sublingual vitamin B12 supplements. The doctor should have given you the shot when you were given the results that said you were low. I think you need to be seen by a GI specialist to find out why you are having...
  21. I have had an immediate reaction to Amy's rice crust pizza before. A lot of people have had reactions to Amy's products.
  22. My husband has been completely supportive of our Celiac. He does not allow any gluten into the house for our safety. He was tested and was negative. He will eat gluten occasionally when he is out of the house and has noticed that he gets bloated and gassy after eating gluten. Gluten free has been much healthier than what our diet was before. The...
  23. Celiac can have many varied symptoms. As you have described. Discuss this with the ped and get her tested. Her vitamin and nutrient levels should also be tested. It seems common for undiagnosed Celiacs to also have abnormal liver results too. Keep her on gluten for the testing process. She will need a Celiac blood panel done first and then a endoscopy...
  24. Congratulations Mom and Dad! Enjoy your first Mother's Day!
  25. Can you contact a 4H vet club? They might be able to put you in touch with a fowl person. (no puns intended) For a search option www. hoobly .com (I think it's .com maybe org)
