Angel Food Ministries has an allergen free food box, fruit and veggies box, and always double check the other box specials. The organization buys in bulk to save money, then sells at a reduced rate, and some of the profit goes to the brick and mortar church where you pick up food. (I think it is $1 per box for the church volunteer to raise for what the...

ARCHIVED Urgent Help, Desperate
mommida replied to charley2006's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter was diagnosed as "probable" Celiac Disease when she was about 16 months old. All was well on the gluten free diet until she was 6. Then symptoms started that seemed just like she was getting gluten from somewhere, but definately getting worse. There is a list of "suspects" for these symptoms. I am not a doctor and this was over 2 years ago... -

ARCHIVED Gallbladder Malfunctioning/inertia
mommida replied to Zary's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I read a study that untreated Celiacs have at least a 30% connection to non-functioning gallbladder. I was about 7 years gluten free and still had to have my gallbladder removed last year. -
ARCHIVED Head Aches ,migranes
mommida replied to davidsmomceliac12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter diagnosed with Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus was being reffered to a nuerologist for the possibility of abdominal migraines. I'm not sure how I feel about the diagnostic process of abdominal migraines and we are stuck in the middle of an insurance change too. I do think an elimination diet might help determine if there are any "trigger... -
ARCHIVED I Know This Is Completely Off Topic Sry
mommida replied to davidsmomceliac12's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have seen how kids at school eat lunch. Sometimes they are so crowded they are bumping elbows. Some people don't know how to respect personal boundary lines and lean over others bodies. Some people can't talk without moving their hands, even if they are holding a samdwich. My daughter was seeming to have gluten reactions. She was just getting sicker... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's And Grave's :((((((
mommida replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't want to scare you about the Grave's, but it is very serious. Stay on top of the thyroid symptoms, and if you think it's time to go to the hospital GO. -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's And Grave's :((((((
mommida replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, I never knew I was the best case scenario option. Hashi & Graves to just Hashi. That is what happened for me. My thyroid has remained very "hard" and just started to soften in the last visit. In the previous year I really started to seriously take vitamin supplements of B12 and Biotin especially. -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's And Grave's :((((((
mommida replied to cassP's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed over 15 years ago with Hashimoto's, so if my information seems outdated.... Hashmoto's is an auto-immune disease that causes your own immune system to attack the thyroid. In the beginning phases of the thyroid being destroyed it fights back. Some of the tests can show the thyroid is overactive (auto-immune over active thyroid is Grave's... -

I wasn't successful either. (ener-g egg replacer was just salty and a bad texture) -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?
mommida replied to Simona19's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hashimoto's can be hard to diagnose, and usually diagnosed at the point you need to be on meds for the rest of your life. As your immune system raging war on your thyroid, your thyroid kicks out everything it can to survive. During this time your thyroid can actually be overactive from the test results,, but you are still dead dog tired, dry skin, hair... -
ARCHIVED New With Questions About A Baby With Possible Celiac Disease
mommida replied to suziq0805's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Younger children often vomit as a gluten reaction. Test results are not as accurate for younger children. There is gluten in breastmilk if the mother is consuming gluten. My kids are too odd to help you out with formula and baby food suggestions. Start working with a ped. gastro. because the symptoms you are describing have a "usual" suspect list that... -
ARCHIVED Here Is My Story... Would Love Some Help!
mommida replied to busybee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ask to be reffered to a ped. gastro. It is not an easy dx for Celiac and you should work with a specialist. (I would lie and say a close relative was just dx. and you need to be screened for it.) Remember tests for patients under 24 months are notoriously false negative. Do NOT start the diet, until all testing is completed! -
My niece was diagnosed with RSD. I don't know if they even tested her for Celiac. She was in a wheelchair for a year and now she is walking and doing fine. She has an extreme reaction to heat. Perhaps the heat from the shower is causing the reaction on your face? In any case double check your cosmetics and consider changing your pet food. I think...

ARCHIVED Advice For My 5 Year Old
mommida replied to HappyMomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I apologize to everyone for my Eosinophilic Esophagitus rants. My daughter was diagnosed with "probable" celiac when she was about 16 months. All was great on a gluten free diet until she was 5 1/2, right after Halloween. Then it seemed like she was having gluten reactions. Pain in the stomach, "D", vomitting up to 12 times a day with a lot of severe... -
I really love The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook by Cybele Pascal, How to bake without gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts and sesame. The cupcakes are awesome! If you are going to make them gluten free, why not make them free of most food allergens for everybody to enjoy! Even vegans! Congratulations!

The original post was a long time ago. 2005 My daughter has probable Celiac disease and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. The EE has severe GERD like symptoms and there is a connection to "food triggers" or airborn allergens. The testing would have to be done through an endoscopy with biopsy and specifically ordered pathology report. The eosinophils can be embedded...

ARCHIVED Had Enough
mommida replied to smile's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Great advice so far. Be very diligent to gluten free. Even check the toiletry items, lip gloss, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner. Even though you don't intend on ingesting these items, they could cause problems. Like pet foods, underarm deodorant, and gluten kisses from someone special. Keep a food journal to see if there might be another food intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant 4 1/2 Yr. Old
mommida replied to mom2kae's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
In the old days the "honeymoon phase" used to fool doctors into believing that children could "outgrow" Celiac. We now know once a Celiac, always a Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Fed Up With Trying To Figure This Out!
mommida replied to norahsmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Really good advice. Start working with a pediatric gastroenterologist. If there is a potential problem with a "food trigger" you need to find out, now. Your little one is so young you need to make sure there is not a congenital defect. Get the Celiac panel done today if possible (you might not have been gluten free because of the oats?) Food journal... -
ARCHIVED Anywhere To Donate gluten-free Food?
mommida replied to Rachel W's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could check with the nearest Angel Food Ministries location. (They sell an allergen free case.) The food could be donated specifically to a gluten free family. -
ARCHIVED Can Symptoms Get Dangerously Worse?
mommida replied to Holly4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The previous poasters have given very good advice. Can Celiac Disease get dangerously worse? Yes. Celiac crisis has been listed as cause of death/contribiting factor for 2 celebrities. Joey C. who was a longtime friend of Kid Rock. He also had other illnesses. The young girl from the Poltergeist movies. -
ARCHIVED 6 Weeks Pregnant Need Help
mommida replied to Jennirube's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Go gluten free. Don't try and get a lot of specialty gluten free foods. They are realy pricey and your taste buds should readjust in about 4 months gluten free. The extra fruit and veggies should help during pregnancy. To go through testing right now, you would have to consume gluten and have enough damage to show up in your tests. You can safely eat... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Gluten Intolerance? Lyme Disease? H Pylori?
mommida replied to mazzy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There have been a few here who thought they had Celiac and then found out they had lyme. I seem to remember one girl who had H. Ployri and Lyme too. ITP is considered auto-immune. If you have one auto-immune disease, it is very likely to get another auto-immune disease. There have been numerous studies that show a gluten free diet is helpful for auto...
