ARCHIVED Any One Near Lake Orion Mi?!
mommida replied to charleeirene's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There are a lot of people in Lake Orion/Oxford area who are gluten free! Go to Lucky's health food to see if the local support group is still meeting. -
Have you gone through and checked all your hygiene products? I was glutened by lipgloss, and a cookie crumb kiss. Don't ask me how I was feeling weak and tired for a while, rechecked everything and found barley in the deodorant. I assure you I don't eat deodorant nor lick armpits, but was still affected. Wheat free doesn't mean gluten free. Health...

ARCHIVED Frustrated ! Any Help Welcomed
mommida replied to monika's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Enjoy Life, Ener-G, Cherrybrook farms, and some Ian's, products are for multiple food allergies. I really love The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook by Cybele Pascal. Were you diagnosed with Crohn's? I do suggest you keep a food journal to see if you have other sensitivities, and to see if you are able to tolerate foods after you have healed on your... -
I really hate grocery shopping and do put it off as long as I can. I do find something to eat that day. Did you check out couponmom.com to find the deals at Albertson's? When the list pops out go to the far right column and click on the down arrow to rearrange the order for the BEST deals at the store that week. Always bring all of your coupons because...

1 hour a week clipping coupons, checking simple website, possibly printing a few coupons on-line Save at least $20 a week = 52 weeks in a year times $20 saved equals $1,040 savings or to spend on fun stuff not food, razors, batteeries, skin lotion, soap or paper products like brand name TP. Like I said, Meijer does have some on-line coupons for fresh...

I think there is a link between the IGA defiency but I haven't found documentation on that yet. -
ARCHIVED Eosinophilic Esophagitis?
mommida replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gluten can be a "trigger" for the Eosinophil response. Have you noticed light cream colored spots on the tonsils? Are you noticing bad breath, smells like "old puss"? Swollen tonsils? Dark circles under the eyes? The pain symptoms, male, difficulty sleeping, and GERD all fit for an EE diagnoses. -
ARCHIVED Eosinophilic Esophagitis?
mommida replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter is diagnosed with both Celiac and EE. We have 2 years diagnosed experience. The mystery of EE unknown cause.... most likely suspect, food or airborn allergen Documented seasonal flare ups Eosinophils have a 12 day reaction time once activated # of eosinophils for diagnoses different for children and adults. Lower numbers are sometimes diagnosed... -
I am trying to do it. I refuse to stockpile useless food to us. If I can donate to food banks I will, but I haven't found a good enough deal yet. I have noticed that products I really don't need can be free. i.e. air fresheners ~ really just open the window. Ok so sales according to the experts have a 6 week cycle. So buy enough chicken to last 6 weeks...

ARCHIVED How Young Was Your Child Diagnosed?
mommida replied to Kimmik95's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just know that rice cereal did not go well. It seemed to me that she already had damage and adding cereal made it more evident. Which was still ignored by doctors until she started to fall into FTT. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Else's Kids Missing So Much School?
mommida replied to srall's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac before she was even 2. She did fairly well with starting school but she was still getting really sick compared to most kids. A bad virus, strep, and that awful Rotovirus all put her in the hospital on an IV for a few days. She was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitus when she was 6. It is being managed very well... -
I am so glad for you! Finally a doctor's office is thinking about the patient, not about the "gold standard".

ARCHIVED DQ2/DQ8
mommida replied to Lizzylulu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have enough for a "probable" Celiac diagnoses. You have positive for 2 known Celiac gene test and a positive improvement on a gluten free diet and villi damage as noted from the endoscopy with biopsy. What was the doctors explaination for the villi damage? Were the biospies tested for Eosinophils? Unfortunately there are other diseases that have... -

mommida replied to Kimmik95's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed through one or two things positive on the blood test, genetic testing positive for DQ2 and DQ8, and improvement on the gluten free diet. She was too ill to have the endoscopy done at the time. Hospitalized for dehydration trying to do the gluten challenge for the blood test. My daughter is 8. from what I can remember the baby... -
ARCHIVED How Young Was Your Child Diagnosed?
mommida replied to Kimmik95's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She had problems right from the start of adding rice cereal. She was severely constipated and her belly seemed to bloat right up. The doctor said to move on to barley cereal and the problems just continued and progressed to vomitting and "D". It was also possible that she was getting my Celiac antibodies through the breastmilk, because I was not diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Cookies
mommida replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the Pamelas's pancake/baking mix for homemade chocolate chip cookies. Pamela's pre-made chocolate, chocalate chunk for making a cookie crumb crust for cheesecakes and such. Liz Lovely makes AWESOME gluten free, organic, vegan cookies. I order by the case on-line. YUM! but oh so expensive. As a side note... I did some modifications on some recipes... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For A Complicated Diet
mommida replied to num1habsfan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When my daughter was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitus (now they lump all of the Eosinophilic GI track disorders together) we had to keep her gluten free (for the Celiac) and go all top 8 allergens, peas, and to be really safe we were seriously watching dyes and preservatives. We had to find "non-food" items because it was possible that she would... -
ARCHIVED How Young Was Your Child Diagnosed?
mommida replied to Kimmik95's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed at about 17 months old. She was breastfed and there were problems from the start. Her BM's fit the description of "over milk production" but they were totally gross. (TMI alert * green with fat moucus) She was hospitalized with dehydration and many UTI infections before being diagnosed because of the "D" and vommiting. She... -
ARCHIVED Lay's Potato Chips?
mommida replied to niki-moen22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is it possible you are coming down with a bug? If you are super sensitive you will find you react to less than 20 ppm. Potato chip are just always eaten with your fingers and there is just more CC risk. Especially kids in school sharing food. You have others in the house who are not gluten free? -
ARCHIVED 3 Yr Old Vomiting
mommida replied to RebeccaLynn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes it is possible for Celiacs to vomit. Children seem to vomit more than adults with Celiac. (It may be one of the reasons they thought children "outgrew" Celiac because they were no longer vomitting right after eating gluten.) -
ARCHIVED Update: Went To Allergist For Re-Check Since Biopsy Was Inconclusive
mommida replied to brendab's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What and where was his "allergic to foods" damage? What did the doctor "rule out" from the tests that were done? Sorry, I was interupted and have forgotten the rest of my questions. If you feel this doctor isn't working out ~ get another doctor. If you think the medical field in general has failed to help your child. The elimination diet of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Homeschool
mommida replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well our family has public, private, and cyber (at home, public school using the computer) school experience. Public school experience was horrible. What is supposed to be, and what actually is happening were completely different in the public school district we live in. Private school was small and very in tune for the food allergies. My daughter... -
ARCHIVED Told My Baby May Be Autistic, Could It Be Celiac
mommida replied to jbranham001's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Like Cara said Do NOT CHANGE THE DIET UNTIL TESTING IS DONE. New research is delving into cholesterol. Specifically adding more into the diet. Cholesterol is needed for synapses of brain cells. I'm thinking the links between the GI /allergens issues associated with Autism and poor absorbtion of nutrients. If I remember correctly the formula the doctor...
