ARCHIVED Celiac Testing For A Toddler?
mommida replied to natalie6691's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It seems like you have made up your mind. I will tell you about putting our daughter through the gluten challenge. She was about 15 months old and still in diapers/nappies. She ended up with a urinary track infection and was hospitalized for dehydration (3 days on an IV). The blood test was taken the day before she became so ill. She was too sick to... -

ARCHIVED Need Ideas For Summer

Libraries are really trying to have fun activities for kids. Game groups, DVD's, books on tape, computer usage, reading contests, library scavenger hunts.... Check out the library for new things all the time. If you are looking for books look for Newberry Medal winning books. ~The usually won for an excellent story line and that can make the difference... -
I am very comfortable going to P.F. Chang's and Outback Steakhouse and ordering from the gluten free menu. Outback Steakhouse now house gluten free bread! It tasted like a croissant to me, YUM! It does have egg as an ingredient. Cheeseburger in Paradise now offers gluten free hamburger buns. Carrabba's Fish Bones

ARCHIVED I Need Your Help :)
mommida replied to shezatrip's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep a food journal. Some reactions can react up to 12 days with no further stimuli (eosinophils). You should eliminate all possible allergens and then reintroduce one at a time. This should be the allergen in purest form for 3 days and wating out possible reaction of 12 days. -
ARCHIVED Need Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Almond And Rice Free Treat Recipe
mommida replied to Poppi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When my daughter was off all top 8, gluten, peas, and food dyes we learned how to make hard candy. It isn't that hard, just find molds or make them with aluminun foil. Really the childrens food allergy network was very helpful and search through "non-food" for "tubies"(feeding tube kids). I really like the watermelon idea and I just remembered popsicles... -
ARCHIVED Need Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Almond And Rice Free Treat Recipe
mommida replied to Poppi's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know I'm late posting but just in case it comes up again. Cotton candy! You can buy it different stores in little tubs. The other kids might just want to eat cotton candy too. Pixie sticks. Would have to check the label on these ~Smarties? Necco wafers? When you start having a lot of food limitations start thinking just sugar. -

Gee, and here I've been beating them with a stick like a pinata until the gluten all falls out!! We didn't I think of that!!? My family didn't listen to me either. a niece did start on the gluten free diet because she was in so much pain nd miserable. -
ARCHIVED Advice Please On Cost Of Gluten Free Bread
mommida replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sign-up at Udi's website and they do send out coupons. Never tried because it has egg as an ingredient. I agree with Syvia's responses. When you find your recipe double the batch and slice and freeze the extra loaf. You can put 2 slices in ziplock bags for a quick thaw for a sandwich or toast. -
Funny, I just knew when you said picky eater! I just had a flashback of my daughter spitting dinner back on her plate after she worked so hard on chewing it.

ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms And Eosinophilic Esophagitis
mommida replied to Hiawatha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 8 year old has EE and Celiac. The heat beats her up pretty bad. You have to remember you are just an extra sensitive individual. Proper nutrition levels are just harder for your diet limitations and digestive track. I also will have to put a theory out there too. The heat can be aggravating a possible airborn trigger. If you are keeping a food journal... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Your Child's Birthday Party?
mommida replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds like it is pefectly themed for your party! Post some pics if you get a chance. -
You might want to add in the testing for Pernicious Anemia. As for your "picky eater", does your little one chew food and then spit it out? That is another symptom of PICA. I had pica when I was pregnant. Only stuck to the ice though. The crunchier ~the better, was the feeling that I was going for.

1. You will find out who is truely your friend. 2. Be prepared to drop some "old friends". If the person was happier when you were sick, and standing in your way of getting better that's someone you need out of your life. -
False hope was a poor choice in wording. I didn't want any person not believing the diagnoses of MS. I do believe the diet changes should be part of the treatment. You know things can get really out of hand here with "show me your research papers" posts going on for days. (In fact there is a post starting to lean that way)

ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
mommida replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The original post if nearly word for word of a disorder called P.O.T.S. and it is highly noted that the patient is predominately a perfectionist female. Gluten is the known trigger for DH, Celiac and gluten intolerance, not stress. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Your Child's Birthday Party?
mommida replied to alex11602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can not risk my child's health for including gluten, eggs, fish, shellfish, or peas. I don't want extra things in the house she can't eat. It is the only time ALL the food is safe. I try very hard to make sure there is something everyone will enjoy. I offer a chocolate and a yellow cake option. I try and make sure no nuts are on that day to offer a... -

Tea party just means little finger foods and pretty presentation of the food. I LOVE the Allergen-Free Baker's handbook (How to bake without gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts and sesame) by Cybele Pascal I have even just swapped out her flour mix and xanthan gum for a straight from a bag commercial gluten free flour replacer. Worked great... -
ARCHIVED Perfectionism And Sensitivity To Criticism
mommida replied to joej1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was an extreme persfectionist in my younger years. I was a competitive figure skater and I was judged EVERY day, EVERY practice. When I was 28 I had memingitis. 1 in 10 cases is fatal. Recovery from reccuring headaches last 1 to 3 years after the infection is healed. You have to deal with how the damage has left your body and mind. That is when... -
I think there is enough proof that gluten free can improve health in more cases than DH/ Celiac. I think it is hard to hear a diagnoses of any disease that will affect the rest of their life. I wouldn't want anything to encourage a person to not accept and face the illness. I would only want to be a friend to help the person adapt to the situation. A...

That is great news! Guess what? The people here on the forum will still help you out. New recipes, food products and new information too. It is always nice when gluten eaters do nasty things or say really stupid stuff, and other scrapes we go through to have someone who understands your perspective. Give that gluten free kiddo a hug! -
ARCHIVED 4 Year Old Hair-Color Change,pain, Diarrhea/const.
mommida replied to bzmomsara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ask for a refferal to a pediatric gastroenterologist. Yes. What you have described can be symptoms of Celiac. The "teeth itching" and pale gums sounds like anemia to me. Watch out for pica. It is the impulse to eat NON food items because of the iron defiency. Especially crunchy stuff! Ice chewing. I couldn't help[ myself when I was pregnant and chewed... -
Keep a food journal. One year into the diet there can be a cross-contaminated ingredient causing problems. (bottle of vanilla was a problem for us) There is gut damage that needs to heal. Certain things are just harder for the body to digest. (egg protin, and corn ~ not that there is any allergy or intolerance going on with the individual just some things...

I would not try and give any false hopes of a "misdiagnoses" of MS. I would share some information about the gluten free diet along with other diet changes being helpful for MS. Someone I know casually has made a change for the better going gluten free, casein free, and I believe she avoids sugars. This change was brought on by the fact she could no longer...

ARCHIVED Should I Even Be Here?
mommida replied to raesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you already went gluten free the blood test will NOT be accurate. I agree with the poster that said be careful with the gluten free oats. A sparten brand "soy sauce" is gluten free too. You will find out a lot of mainstream products are lacking gluten as an ingredient and should be safe to eat. Some products have a lot of Celiacs complaining about...
