  1. wowzer: Just to clarify for me....this site isn't to check for gluten in the products, right? Just harmful ingredients?
  2. Oh my, I hope that wasn't the real reason she was banned --- that will really keep newbies away if they think they can be banned for venting in a thread made specifically for venting. Being that you brought this old item up, I have to admit and I am probably one of the only ones who will say this, but I will say it in the nicest way, but I was ready...
  3. I feel that the politics surrounding celiac (whether testing or insurance companies paying for testing or product labeling) is something we should talk about. And I am sure we are all in agreement about this.
  4. I have found that the ones who cry the most about what someone is saying that it's "offensive" are the biggest bullies on the board who want everyone to agree with them. I might read something which is offensive to me, yet to 9 of out 10 people they would be scratching their heads to try to figure it out. But I am not about to make a issue of it...
  5. HappyBirthday!!
  6. It's great to want to help welcome the newbies. Keep the newbies in the "fold." Let them know that what they are going thru is normal for newly gluten-free, etc. I enjoy the Gab section and sometimes that has a serious topic thrown in but we pretty much get it back on course. It's hard to follow a long Gab type thread as you have to read from the...
  7. Every now and then after going gluten-free you might get unexplainable gas, bloating which could either be coming from mysterious sources of gluten or "just because." The "just because" type can go on and off for the first year gluten-free.
  8. some of them contain dairy/casein and that bothers me.
  9. Welcome new board friends...glad you peristed and stayed.
  10. I'll have to try these other options for the roux.
  11. I got me to thinking that wouldn't something dusted with wheat flour attract bugs?
  12. I don't recall, it was a few years ago; it could have been Ener-G Brand
  13. I've tried using rice flour and it didn't work. The QB is mentioning his "typical restaurant" order and I'm no expert, but I can't imagine the roux in restaurant being made of gluten-free flour. Hope the QB knows this.
  14. From their Faqs Section: I have food allergies, can I still take FiberChoice fiber supplements? FiberChoice tablets do not contain protein derived from milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shell fish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat or soybeans. FiberChoice fiber supplement does not contain any wheat by-products or gluten.
  15. ..sure it isn't the high amount of lactose in the Alfredo sauce? At times I can get away with a miniscule amount of lactose, but not when it's too much. Due to this I avoid jarred Alfredo sauces. I am better off with fresh cream - strangely enough it has less impact on my guts than jarred Alfredo sauces do.
  16. Whether it be food workers or relatives or friends it just seems that some just want to challenge you to "prove" you wrong! It's not about doing the right thing, but it's about (to them) being "right." Several years ago, pre celiac, my husband and I went out for breakfast - had pancakes. My husband is very, very thin and has had no problem with cholestrol...
  17. Curious about the New Orleans dishes as they are started with a "roux" which is is wheat flour. Can this roux be made with non gluten flour?
  18. Lauralee: Thanks...but what is the purpose then for the .35 cents that the Rep gets? Is that to go towards gas for delivering your order? Now the fee printed on the receipt is .75 -- not to be petty but to whom does the .05 go? I don't mean to sound petty but my rep is playing games with extra fees and she doesn't deliver the order to me...
  19. At this point my suggestion is to read the label of the Citrucel you purchased to make sure that they did not change the ingredients on us like Fibersure did last year.
  20. Well you have to get on track now and my suggestion is to start off like you were a "newbie". Nini, a board member here, has a "newbie" packet. Search for her name and ask her how to get one (she has a website she'll direct you to). Celiac Board has an internal email system where we can contact each other and you may get some responses thru that...
  21. I don't think it goes like that with Avon...I used to sell it years ago and I forgot what the fee was for. I thought it was to go to the Rep. to help with paying for their gas used to drop off their deliveries.....

    ARCHIVED Restaurants

Azzie, you're not alone. I am trying to get my husband to go to a local restaurant which is a member of GIG and has a gluten-free menu; I even went there to discuss menu and hubby is still fearful. He has not been in restaurant for over 3 years now (since diagnosis).
  23. What is the purpose of the Order processing fee (see your receipts in your receipt book)? Just curious as my Avon rep answered this differently each time I asked her....
  24. I totally understand your dilemma: mine is a bad decision maker too but thankfully isn't in debt. She is child-like in her ways and is stubborn to good advice. I just tell her what I think because I am afraid that the problem is going to slap me in the butt later anyway. I am the person who picks up the pieces. My Mother in law is too dependent and...
  25. Happy Birthday! Hope you feel better and better.
