  1. happy happy birthday!
  2. My sister is in pharmaceutical field; in a cancer and GI division and went to a very large meeting where there were pharma reps and GI Doctors. It was stated that when a patient presents gastro symptoms in line with celiac (diarrhea, weight loss, etcl) it is recommended that a celiac panel blood test be done from the beginning. So things are starting...
  3. Sandy: love your retort! (sorry for the pun) MIL sounds absolutely EVIL - Cruella DeVille inlaws + distance = perfect together
  4. there's another new thread floating around here on this same topic.
  5. Richard, You are our favorite "celiac myth-buster." As always thanks for giving us the facts! Deb Now that we' re on this topic, would that also be the same answer for McCormick's other extracts, like the lemon, anise, etc.
  6. Nancy: What organization sponsors that group? CSA? Or are they independent? Deb
  7. for my husband: He felt some improvement after first month. gluten-free ...then every few months later on gluten-free more improvement in symptoms; finally took more than the first year to see the major change. One thing however, he never gained his weight back and despite being 100% gluten-free he can't gain weight for long. Loses it if he skips a...
  8. This came up as a result of wanting to purchase the Rite Aid brand of Benefiber. It appears to be the same as the old Benefiber formula; but has maltodextrin. I wasn't certain if they had to declare wheat as the base of the maltrodextrin as it's really not a food product.
  9. Whole Foods was a disappointment...Trader Joe's near me was even worse. Whole Foods keeps eliminating gluten-free grocery products and I have to scramble to find them over the internet. Mom & Pop stores by me usually have a hard time selling gluten-free. WF goods large amounts of shelf space to multiple varieties of gluten stuff while limiting...
  10. GFP 's pie crust can be made ahead of time and frozen for later use. It has egg in it so it has to be frozen, not just refrigerated for longer periods of time. It tastes good; our non gluten-free family likes it better than wheat pie crust.

  12. Thank you ...it's my 50th.
  13. anyone have any experience wherein they've used a product with maltrodextrin and it was not gluten-free?
  14. Just used their gluten-free bread crumbs and we give them a "great" mark. They are unflavored so you'd have to add your own ingredients to spice them if, if desired. But they are a good base bread crumb.

  16. Every 11/11 when we wake up I wish my husband a happy Veteran's Day with a kiss. He laughs at me. It's been 27 years of doing this.
  17. Earlier this year in the publication from the CSA a military fellow (who was up there in ranks) wrote an article and he said he was the only celiac in his position in military and that the armed services will not willingly take a celiac due as they will probably be unable to feed them properly if they are sent overseas; and they can't take that chance and...
  18. Thank you guys!
  19. That's a relief! 11/14 edited - which makes all responses following sound out of context.
  20. Armetta, sorry to hear about the break; hope you get relief soon. I didn't realize that Snowbirds took going to different doctors so casually; yeah, why don't they visit their home state doctor before taking their extended vacations..... Karen: Here in NJ if you are from northern or western NJ and you take a day trip to southeast Jersey...
  21. good to hear good news!
  22. Ok, love this topic! Keep in mind that I live about a hour's drive from New York City and of course we go there to see Christmas Show and stage shows.... My youngest sibling, Bill, and I are 21 years apart. I often took him out places with me and people thought he was my son. One Saturday I was visiting my Mom & Dad (they live close by) and Bill...
  23. Sure, but what does Scott think? Let's see his input before we roll any thoughts around.
  24. via testing intolerant to : gluten, wheat, soy, yeast, corn, cow's milk, egg yolk, lentils, garlic (mostly York Testing). Can't digest for some unknown reason: fruits, vegetables, spices, fried foods, nuts, However, yeast, corn, cow's milk and some egg must be consumed otherwise I'd be living on air. -- Mike
  25. One way to get to the bottom of this is to find out the manufacturer of the product and call their support number and ask about gluten and whey....(by I.V. I think you mean liquid nutrition, not the clear saline/sugar solution hospitals give you to keep you hydrated).
