ARCHIVED Gluten Free Roommate In Ny?
debmidge replied to elonwy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
what!!!!! I'd also put feelers out in east New Jersey then you need to take train or bus into NYC. Rents are less in east NJ as compared to NYC (I would suppose). If I had a house I'd let you board here...we're gluten free. -
Yes, regarding taking oils from hair. I used to color my hair in high school using Miss Clairol - winterwheat color (yikes, don't lynch me!) and one of the benefits of it was that my complexion was always clear - no oily skin. Carla, be sure to post your new picture after your salon appointment.

I'd try to cut my own hair at home, but it sounds like too much trouble. My husband loves long hair and I'm sure he'd not want to take a scissors to any part of my head. I'd get no cooperation from him! For sure I'd not color and perm long hair...too much damage. when I used to perm, I wouldn't color. My sister's natural color is "butter...

In their defense, most of the office staff are non-medical personnel and have no training in medical terminology. Many are college students or housewives who are working just to get extra income. They do not have a financial stake in the doctor's practice, they just answer phones, open mail, make appointments for patients, fax stuff back and forth to lab...

Yes another million or more to go....gave me a silly thought. Perhaps we should organize and go door to door like the political or religious groups do. "Hello, my name is Deb and he's Mike. We're out here today to talk with you about the gluten free plan. Here's our brochures ... we want to help you maintain good health. Have you ever considered... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's? Not Exactly...
debmidge replied to RunnerNYC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Runner NYC, yes, please give us updates and as someone else asked, how does a problem like this occur? What other symptoms does it give? I would imagine that you had a lot of gastric pain around your liver and bile duct. What symptoms did it present? You have shed another light on this subject for all of us. D. -
I too saw a show where she mentioned the broth is gluten free and I was puzzled because she didn't show the brand & that's important to me, of course. It gave me impression too that had I not known, I would have thought that all broths are gluten-free. I think FN should run a nice half hour show maybe once or twice a week about cooking gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Gluten Joke On Letterman Sept 19, '06

Finally relief!! A group that I as a blonde can pick on!!! -
Ursula, I do not have anything to add - this is such a complex matter and so emotional. I just wish you the best and hope all things work out for you. Family often "anchors" you to problems that you can't easily escape, if at all. I just hope you find your answers and resolutions to this dilema. D.

Don't you find also that when you have long hair stylists seem to want to cut it down? I haven't found one yet that doesn't insist on chopping off 3 inches when I say "trim." I went to a salon once and wanted a long old fashioned, 1960's Jane Fonda shag. The stylist was older and knew those shag days; she cut my hair off into a "butch" style (I think...

I still can't figure out what is so wrong about mullets.... Vincent, your's is the most extreme I've ever seen... Then there's the mullets that are more balanced between top and bottom of head. Mullets seem like a "compromise" hair style and that sounds like a good thing. Who exactly decided that mullets were "out" of style? Who makes up the rules...

Do any of you break out in hives or rashes after coloring? My SIL has that problem after she goes to salon to get her hair done. For several days later she has I guess an allergic reaction from the dye. When I colored my hair at home, the fun part was experimenting with shades: trying different combinations of neutrals with ashes and coming up with...

The first fax machine I ever used was in 1978 and it took a smelly treated paper; it had its own telephone near it and you had to shove the receiver in a special place on the fax machine and the phone "talked" to the fax machine (just like they do today). And in about 20 minutes you got a one page fax. I worked for a printing company and I guess...

ARCHIVED Where To Buy 'green' Household Items
debmidge replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I use vinegar to clean up most everything and if that doesn't work then I use the baking soda - last resort is Clorox or ammonia. Even some detergents are too fragranced. Between that & the dryer sheets I have sometimes re-washed clothes by hand and air dryed them just to get the smell of the detergent/dryer sheet out. -
For many years I did my own hair with professional products as I could not afford a professional..... I guess if I made a mistake I could only blame myself. Apparently I must have a talent for it as I have done a lot of heads of friends over the past 20+ years. It started when I was a teen - we'd have "up all night" parties and do our hair. My friend...

ARCHIVED Major Depression
debmidge replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
for my husband, he had almost suicidal depression which lifted a few months after going gluten-free. He's not as bad as he used to be (can't take anti depressants due to neurological side effects). -
ARCHIVED Peripheral Neuropathy
debmidge replied to faegan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My husband is a case of per. neuropathy after going 100% gluten-free. My theory is that it was gaining on him prior to his being correctly diagnosed in 2003 and he would have gotten in anyway....this being said so far he still has it, he's still 100% gluten-free and there's no other reasons for it : Glucose levels are normal, thyroid normal. There... -
ARCHIVED Advancing celiac disease One Person At A Time
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Publications & Publicity
I always approach with statement "Have you considered that it could be celiac disease?" I don't say it's definitely celiac disease as that's too presumptive. But in many cases eyes light up when I review symptoms with them. I am giving her booklet fromt the CSA which I purchase for these occasions. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Resturants In Cape May Nj
debmidge replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Kristy , we've probably run into one another before and don't know it. How long ago were you living in Hillside and he in Union? They tore down the old Foodtown in Union Center and are replacing it with a Super Stop & Shop. There's rumour that the Hillside pool will be closing due to lack of members. Kean College is getting larger and now it... -
Several years ago I used to color my MIL's hair with professionalproducts and my beautican shared a hint with me....use a product called "Grey Magic" drops (drop several into the mix). The beautician used this to the dye mixture to keep the color holding onto the gray hair, as gray hair can sometimes be color resistive. There might be other products out...

To those who don't know my situation, my husband has celiac, I don't. But that doesn't stop me from caring about those who deal with celiac disease just like my husband. I was in of all places on Saturday, an Italian restaurant, alone grabbing something to eat before I finished my errands and it was empty at lunch hour; I sat chatting with the waitress... -
ARCHIVED Ladies Home Journal
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'll have to pop in library at end of week when I am off work. I hate it when I get the "bug" to throw old magazines and stuff away and then remember why I was keeping it AFTER I threw it away. I was tired of looking at my "clutter pile" and decided to throw old stuff out. About an hour after it went in dumpster I remembered why I wanted to keep it... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Resturants In Cape May Nj
debmidge replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Two Mile Landing is near the bridge which connects Wildwood Crest (Diamond Beach) to Cape May (beach area). I never thought of googling them.....good idea. Two Mile is my husband's favorite restaurant down there. If I discover it can accomodate gluten-free then I am one step closer in getting him to go to the Crest on vacation next year.
