  1. Who needs "attitude" - it's bad enough that celiacs have to "fight" their battle with the uninitiated let along those who are supposedly "in the know." Perhaps after their demise a group of us can buy them out and publish what we want instead? Like a "co-operative" magazine. We can rename it "REAL LIVING - Gluten Free".
  2. I don't know too much about anatomy but aren't the sinuses of the ears, nose & throat interconnected and couldn't gluteny mascara flake into eyes and make it's way though sinuses into throat and into digestive track. Is this purpose of gluten-free mascara? Or could it cause DH in eye? Or on eye lids?
  3. Lynne, I am so sorry to hear about this latest addition to your health problems. I hope you heal up very fast and get by this one without too much trouble. D.
  4. sorry for misapplication of the quote device. I was quoting bbuster about her son. sorry about that Lynn. My quoting error. Deb
  5. "I debated long and hard about this approach, but just last week my son had his first negative tTG blood test in the year and a half we have been at this." This is something to be celebrated. Great news!!
  6. I am the non celiac spouse and this is what I do (see above). My husband dislikes computers and would never go on this board. I either read them to him or print out portions of the threads. Some day I will make him do this himself, maybe. I happen to like my board-mates too much and would miss them. I have to add you have to have a lot of patience...
  7. I second this. Did Dr. tell you it's a mild case or is that how you view it as you get little or no known symptoms? I'd worry about the silent neurological damage, the connection between your eating gluten and arthritis, and the higher chance of cancer. All silent damage of course will not show up until years later and you'll then wish you were...
  8. Husband's sister probably has Celiac (has gastro symptoms, weight loss just like her brother) and she refuses to be tested- she doesn't want the inconvenience of this diet, so to her it's best not to know. She says she couldn't do the diet. Conversely enough she could do it just as well as my husband does because she doesn't work and doesn't travel anywhere...
  9. I usually used "Apri Scrub" (apricot scrub) and was wondering if anyone knew if this or any other scrub product is gluten-free.....
  10. I think they react that way because they didn't think of it themselves. Several weeks ago my best friend who is a carpet/tile dealer was speaking with a customer at her home and the customer told her that since she was diagnosed with a disorder that perhaps my friend never heard of: celiac disease. Well my friend absolutely knows the condition (from...
  11. My husband says that we've been together for so long that we are getting to have same problems.
  12. My husband is Celiac but I do try to eat gluten-free and keep a gluten-free home for his sake. Over past couple of months I have been eating less gluten than ever, basically only at lunchtime and occasionally the Lean Cuisine. Today at my mother in laws I ate a "French Twist" wheat goodie (no fat) but it as high gluten wheat in it. All afternoon...
  13. 'I want to share my feelings with him, but he gets upset because he feels like he's letting me down (which isn't the case... even if I'm disappointed, I know it's out of his control). I feel like right now is the " Your statement hit a major area that made me stop in mid reading and say this....my husband agonizes over the fact that he feels he is letting...
  14. I was with my husband, in the Dr.'s office when he was informed and it gave us peace to know that he wasn't crazy for feeling ill for 27 years and we hoped we could finally have a real life together. His relatives were supportive, but not knowledgable about the dos and don'ts and may not have gotten all the rules down pat and in some cases flaunted...
  15. I am very split on this discussion.....I would rather this thread not take this route, but I have to admit I have had the same experience as BERNICE. It grieves me to have to explain this, but the word "Prejudice, " contrary to popular belief, does not mean fair criticism. It refers to having pre-conceived, untried opinions about something...
  16. I generally do not go near the "Parents of Kids or Babies w/celiac disease" as I really can't give advice to parents as I do not have children and in past, not on this board, but elsewhere in my life I've been told by parents that I really shouldn't give advice because I don't have children. That being said, again, I stay away in self-defense. I had...
  17. well, I suppose it's time for a world-wide church policy which will make it uniform throughout the church. Official and published policy and someone in charge of it. If there is a uniform policy right now then the message isn't getting thru and they need an office to promote it.
  18. Back to the original topic, from what I understand there's a website somewhere dedicated to Catholic Celiacs. I kind of remember this from the other thread about 6 mos ago about this topic, and boy was this talked to death then too. Perhaps the Catholic Church needs an "office" of the "Celiac Celebrant" in response to your gluten free diet concerns....
  19. For those of you who see Doctors based in NJ only..you can check your doctor out on this website www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/bme
  20. This is a new product and below is Avon's response to me: Hello Deborah, Let me begin by offering a sincere apology for the time that has elapsed since you first contacted us. My name is Janet M. and I'm concerned about your satisfaction. Skin So Soft Soft & Pure Fragrance-Free Body Lotion DOES NOT contain gluten. It is a gluten-free product...
  21. "After reading all these pages and all these posts, it appears that there is one common thread that binds everyone here . . . we're all struggling with a disease that is so horribly difficult to manage. Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Methodist, Hindu, Buddhist -- whatever. This thread is about trying to manage to fit into the lives of the people with whom...
  22. Possibility that he has, in addition to Celiac, Marfan. Anyone else with this syndrome?
  23. If I am not mistaken, I believe ConAgra was bought out by someone else just this year....
  24. I just recently 6/06 had to call Senokot to confirm gluten-free status and they say it is...their # is 888-726-7535 www.senokot.com
  25. My husand is 100% gluten-free and can't seem to shake the depression (can't take St. John's nor any other anti-depressants due to side effects). The depression waxes and wanes and I never know from day to day what his level of depression is. BEfore going gluten-free he was at max level of depression and gluten-free made it better but it's still there...
