ARCHIVED Proctor & Gamble - Avoid This Company- Their Are Good Alternatives
debmidge replied to Deanne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gee, maybe they should be worried that WE need a Dr.'s note to SPEND OUR MONEY on them! "I'm sorry, I cannot buy your products (all of them) unless I have a doctor's note." -
ARCHIVED Proctor & Gamble - Avoid This Company- Their Are Good Alternatives
debmidge replied to Deanne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree...this isn't a prescription so why should I get my doctor to write to them....that is an unreasonable request by P&G. They know that doctor's don't have time for that so that gets them off the information hook. Perhaps we write to them saying, I'm not a Dr. but I play one on TV or something like that. Or sign the letter "Debmidge... -
This is kind of a sad story but when my husband first came down with IBS which was really celiac disease (Jan 1977) he lost 30 lbs in 3 months and needed new pants desperately. But since he was out of work he couldn't afford new, so he put safety pins at waist and wore his shirts outside the pants (he was also hoping he'd gain weight back as Dr. said...

ARCHIVED Can Someone Clear This Up For Me?
debmidge replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
"A rose by any other name is still a rose." In the celiac beginning I "searched" the "sprue" word and it came up as a disease in cats... Since celiac disease can run the gamut of symptoms there's no one word that can describe it. Malabsorption syndrome sounds good, but what about those who only have neurological symptoms? celiac disease needs... -
ARCHIVED Oil Of Olay
debmidge replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for researching this. Although I don't have celiac disease I use gluten-free shampoos and bodywashes to keep gluten residue away as my husband gets Derm. Herp. And of course I don't want him using the bodywash not knowing it's off limits. My house is about 99% gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED How About A New Reality Show?
debmidge replied to lonewolf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sounds great. don't forget that the contestant has to be accused of being a picky eater, and it's all in his/her head and the popular "you need a psychiaratrist. But I can see this as a reality show where a non celiac lives with celiac roommates and has to adopt their eating rules. How long will the non celiac last? Tune in tomorrow. -
ARCHIVED Benefiber Alert
debmidge replied to trents's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And yes, they have a big "Gluten Free" label on their bottle! We've written to them (Novartis Consumer Division) to express our displeasure and we told them that many celiacs who use this product will probably change to another gluten-free fiber manufacturer now that wheat, as small it it is, is in this product. We can't figure out why they had... -
ARCHIVED Second Opinion?!
debmidge replied to cajun celiac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
don't forget Nini's newbie info...I just don't know where on board to get this, so if someone could post those instructions as cajun will probably need more info in the meanwhile. Somehow you're supposed to click on Nini's signature but it didn't work for me the last time I tried it. -
ARCHIVED Which gluten-free Moisturizers Do You Use On Your Face?
debmidge replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do not use Chapstick as I found that it made the dryness worse. I use something called Natural Ice Original - hard to find and they told me over phone that it's gluten-free. I buy it at drugstore.com as most CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid's don't carry it any more. I think Chapstick wants a monopoly on the stick lip balm business -
ARCHIVED Already Had Cancer
debmidge replied to pat e's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, quite feels that way...do you have a work situation or some other logisitical situation wherein you are unable to acquire gluten-free foods during work? Do you travel a lot for your job? Do you have other food sensitivities which make being gluten-free harder? let us know your details and perhaps there's someone on the board who has a solution... -
ARCHIVED Vans Wheat Free/gluten Free Gourmet Waffles
debmidge replied to trents's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We were never fans of non gluten-free frozen waffles - felt that they too were cardboardy. The Van's waffles are good, never got any that were freezer burned and they are priced better at the Whole Foods than at my regular A&P Supermarket. Our Trader Joe's is very, very small and the one time I went there I do not recall them having a large... -
ARCHIVED Disarnno (liquor)
debmidge posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
(Product was formerly known as Amaratto) Thank you for your inquiry to Disaronno.com. I have checked with the manufacturer in Italy and Disaronno is completely Gluten free. If you still have questions, we suggest you contact your doctor as to whether or not you should consume such beverage products before consumption. Best Regards, Consumer... -

ARCHIVED Motts Brand Applesauces
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mott's Granny Smith style had "natural flavors" in it and that concerned me, so hence the email to Mott and the response they gave to me. I always get cautious about the natural flavors. What if this is the one thing that they make that does have the gluten.... Glad to be of help to those who like applesauce products. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Body Shape
debmidge replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Due to malabsorption my hubby's body fed off of muscles and fat and he has little or no padding on body but has a waistline out of proportion with hips (no hip or butt). The hardest item to buy for him is underwear. In order to get the waistband not to dig in, he has to go to the size large, but then the butt and legs are too big. This has been an ongoing... -
ARCHIVED New - Is It Worth It?
debmidge replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, my husband had severe depression which lifted when he went gluten-free. Gastro even mentioned that this was where most of the depression was coming from. Gluten will affect brain chemistry. -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent
debmidge replied to WalksonWater's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sometimes I wonder if it's just easier to wear a "haz-mat" suit around the crumbs! I am constantly cleaning up after myself (but I don't have too much gluten stuff in house as I used to). Since I started eating gluten-free cereal at breakfast I don't worry about cereal flying out of the box when I pour it. -

ARCHIVED Csa Gluten-free Product Listing-11th Edition-w/binder
debmidge replied to hapy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have purchased in 2004 and 2005 and did not get it after that. Most of the products in the book are products not found in my part of country (NJ) and stores like WalMart in my area do not have a full grocery dept. so many of those products are not in my area. Most of the stores the book states as sources for gluten-free food aren't in my area either... -
ARCHIVED Motts Brand Applesauces

Thank you for contacting us about the presence of gluten in our Mott's products. Consumer inquiries such as this are appreciated because they provide valuable feedback about our brands. Gluten is a mixture of complex proteins found in the grain of wheat, barley, oats, rye, rice, corn, and other grains. All of our Mott's sauce and juice products are gluten...
