  1. You asked to see a map, and I showed you one that demonstrates that there is no geographical similarity between the distribution of cases of Lyme and MS. If you want to see Western Blot Lyme test results from all the MS patients in the world, you'd better start raising money for that study now yourself, because nobody is going to do that for you.
  2. I never had diarrhea while pregnant.
  3. If you've had two endoscopies done two years apart, and the first one shows you healthy while the second one shows you with "moderate to severe celiac", that means you're going downhill fast. You need to go gluten-free immediately. Wouldn't hurt to look for a new doctor, either.
  4. I disagree. If a restaurant agrees to try to provide you with safe food, then you should give them feedback either way. While cross contamination is always a consideration, it is not the responsibility of the person with celiac to pretend that the restaurant did a great job when in fact they were seriously glutened. You say nothing, they'll think they did...

    ARCHIVED Ragu?

The name is never used here. "Spaghetti sauce" is a very specific type of tomato-based sauce with only very minor variations. It comes canned or bottled. It is very tomatoey, and a large amount of sauce goes on the pasta. For most people this is the only way they ever have eaten spaghetti.
  6. No, actually the one problem with Western medicine is that doctors don't keep up with the research and end up being so misinformed as to be useless, unless you happen to have a popular disease.
  7. MS is known to be related to geography, but distribution of cases appears nothing like Lyme. Open Original Shared Link My understanding is that Lyme is found in North America, but not in Europe. The incidence of celiac is estimated to be the same in North America and Europe.
  8. If he let his license expire, then he's not able to be a practicing doctor anymore, but he still has the same doctorate in medicine that every other doctor does. The only difference is what they specialized in for their residency. So the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is that the psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can prescribe drugs...
  9. Traditionally, monkey bread is where you take balls of yeast dough, roll them in butter, and fill a loaf (or some other shape) pan. It bakes up taking the shape of the pan you baked it in, but instead of slicing it, you can break off neat pieces. It's hard to imagine any of the gluten bread batters I've made cooking up like this.
  10. Hypocholesterolemia runs in my family. My father's was always low, mine has been between 112 and 165, and the last time my daughter was tested it was so low the doctor told her somebody might want to do research on her.
  11. I have a daughter who is grown. If she acted up inappropriately in public I would warn her and ignore her entirely until she stopped, pretending she was not there. But she behaved well (didn't like to be ignored, I guess) and I don't remember something like causing a fuss in public happening more than a few times. Since my daughter was always in visibly...
  12. I have a doctor friend who tells me he's run a few celiac panels, but has never had a patient test positive. Although he acknowledges that 1 in 133 in the general population may be celiac, he fails to see the inherent contradiction - that he must have a lot of patients who are celiac, and many more that are gluten intolerant. But thanks to the fact that...
  13. I read a story about a man who bought a six pack of beer that had sediment in it. His wife, who just happened to be an FDA food inspector, thought they ought to complain and called the company up first thing in the morning. They told her they would send somebody by to pick up the beer, and in a few minutes a company vice president knocked on the door to get...
  14. Awww... Roquefort...
  15. Which ones made from goat's milk would you recommend? I'm still looking. Oh, dear. Just found some for $30 and $44 a pound.
  16. I have made some small batches of jam and jelly. Homemade is just the best, because commercial jam and jelly is made with the bare minimum of fruit or juice and usually has extenders like purified apple juice, which is totally flavorless. Small batches is the way to go. You never get bored, they don't spoil, and it's fast and easy to whip up a batch on...
  17. Try the carob. It's healthy, and you may like it. My mother hated chocolate and was opposed to it on the principle, so she used to feed it to us all the time. I haven't eaten any since I left home 33 years ago, and that's still too soon for me.
  18. This is the post I was responding to, where RiceGuy said none of us should eat blue cheese as it causes reactions in some people, and it does not agree with him. Certainly people who are allergic to pennicillin should not eat it, and we should not be eating gluten. But for people who are not allergic to pennicillin, there is no reason to not eat a safe blue...
  19. Well, if it were the case that I thought the mother was putting on a scene for the purpose of embarrassing the daughter (for doing something that nobody else actually noticed) I would hardly commiserate with her. I do not consider public humiliation to be an effective child-rearing technique. That's just bad behavior on the mother's part, on par with a 2...
  20. Your GI is not satisfied with the tests your neurologist ran and wants to repeat them? I think that for you, the risks outweigh the possible benefits. Are you gluten-free?
  21. I think you would be pretty darned embarrassed, especially when you consider all the unwanted attention it was getting you when you went out in public. The internet marketers who make the claims know they don't need to spend the big bucks necessary to run a medical test, because they can sell it without any more evidence than they have. The medical establishment...
  22. If you woke up tomorrow and found yourself gray, would you want to publish your picture on the web?
  23. All forms of alternative medicine are not created equal. Many are supported by studies that show their effectiveness. This one in particular has no science behind it much more recent than the turn of the century. That's where all the information you see quoted on these sales sites is based on. There are many remedies and treatments that have been abandoned...
  24. Perfumes bother me when somebody else is wearing them. I remember once I had a bad cold, and the woman at the other end of the office decided to wear enough perfume so it was very strong in the whole office. I had trouble breathing that day, and she was really mad at me, for making it up to annoy her I guess. I never wear perfumes, only essential oils...
  25. It isn't a mainstay for newborns and burn victims today. It's a home remedy. There are safer drugs that doctors use for these purposes. The sites I found were full of "medical articles" that were untraceable. A lot of these sites subscribe to the "one cause for all disease, one cure for all diseases" conspiracy theory. I had to search a long time before...
