  1. Solid Gold makes a low-carb dog food that is grain-free. Solid Gold products are carried by Open Original Shared Link. Probably either one carries that type or you could talk one into getting you a case.
  2. You are planning on wearing a hat and sunglasses when out in the sun from now on, aren't you?
  3. If I was your mom, I'd be begging you not to put the kid through a biopsy and just go gluten-free. Of course, I'm opposed to unnecessary medical intervention - the least invasive is the best, in my opinion.
  4. Maybe I'm socially unfeeling, but I really don't think that the fact that you agreed to do this when times were good means you can be expected to bankrupt yourself and put up with the bride ordering you to eat food that will make you sick. I would sit her down and give her a little chat that starts with "This doesn't seem to be working out for either one...
  5. a/k/a Bridezilla.
  6. Candy! It's the rule rather than the exception to give kids candy for work in the lower grades. I hate that.
  7. What about people who work there? I went over to the peanut allergy board and read a lot of threads. Now I understand that the people who hang out there and post are probably the ones who have the most serious problems. They were arguing about how to keep their child's classrooms peanut free, as some of them have contact or inhalation issues, and I can...
  8. You have to publish it separately. There's a little dropdown box where you select "publish".
  9. Umm... 'Calcium disodum' should not be on that list. It's not a compound, it's a typo. There should be a third word that tells you what the entire compound is. There are many compounds that could start with "Calcium disodium", and some of them are probably not safe. (I have a degree in Chemistry.)
  10. I would say that if it's not good enough for your family that you've stopped eating something you were sure was making you sick - and you got better! - that you should just go about doing what you need to do. Even though you go through with as many tests as they can run, they may all come up negative, but you will still need to avoid eating gluten if it makes...
  11. Malnutrition is known to affect bone and tooth development in children. I'm neither a doctor nor a dentist. Hope you get her health problems cleared up soon.
  12. I have used Japanese rice and long grain rice. They both have enough surface "stickiness" to stick together when compressed, but they have no "gooeyness". What I do is make all the rice into patties and refrigerate them with baking parchment between, which will make them really easy to handle. I've never been to Japan, and I've never eaten at mosburger...
  13. If your rice normally cooks up sticky or gooey, you will need to cook it with less water. Looking at the picture, the "buns" appear to be grilled. That said, I've only made this open-faced and eaten it with a fork.
  14. Disodium is not an ingredient. It is the first word of a two word ingredient. What is the second word?
  15. Put plastic wrap in a hamburger press. Put in still-warm cooked rice - regular rice, not parboiled, and definitely not instant. Cover with more plastic wrap. Press. If it's not full enough, use more rice.
  16. Serving a burger between two pressed rice patties certainly can be done. Open Original Shared Link is a cutlet with miso, but no reason you can't press rice patties in a hamburger press. I've done it.
  17. While people in our culture are eating some more msg, there have also been many dietary changes in that same time period that actually have been shown to have a measurable obesity-producing effect. Your point was mine in doing a study eliminating msg from the diet: that it can't be done while keeping all other things equal, though someone could certainly...
  18. Actually, it's a great idea to buy a coffee roaster and roast your own. You'll save tons of money doing it, and it will be the best coffee you ever had. I have no idea about gluten that might be in coffee, though. I had to give it up, but my roaster was about ready to be replaced anyway. Open Original Shared Link
  19. I had a boyfriend who did this. I told him I was too tired to cook, so he said, don't worry about cooking for me and opened up himself a can of tunafish. I was dumbfounded. My daughter and I went out for pizza, and he was mad I didn't bring him. Hello????
  20. The age at which gluten is introduced does make a small difference in whether a baby develops celiac. However, it's also true that some babies seem to be born with celiac, possibly having to do with prenatal exposure to gluten fractions that pass through the placental barrier. The infant formulas that substitute for breast milk are inferior. Since there's...
  21. This reads like a press release that someone turned into newspaper content. I finally googled and found many profiles of the few "experts" who have written most of the anti-msg books on the subject. To a one they were saying that msg has been proven to be responsible for obesity or the obesity epidemic, but no sources were shown and the reporter did not ask...
  22. Turkey has always made me feel that way. I think it's the turkey itself. Maybe you shouldn't be eating it. In the past I have ground my own chicken for burgers, using some dark meat for flavor and juiciness.
  23. Again, "huge factor", which is to say, a major factor. I'm looking for some sort of reference, since this board is the only place I have ever read that, while in many places I have seen references to increased consumption of high fructose corn syrup, sweetened beverages such as sodas and fruit drinks, shift to more vegetable oils, especially hydrogenated...
  24. I'm sure that's what she's trying to say, but I'd be glad to settle for evidence of that, too. So many dietary changes have occurred in the past generation or two that I'd want to see some clear evidence that it has any effect on the weight of humans before putting it on the list with things like high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated (and unhydrogenated...
  25. Show me the evidence that "msg is a huge contributor to the obesity factor in the US". I cook all my food from scratch, and never add msg, but I'm overweight.
