14 and a couple months...... feel free to e-mail or Im me, as well... How old are you?
-
For color...the easiest way is to type it out, then highlight it, then click color or size or font and get the dropdown menu, then choose one. There should be weird writing on either side, but that will change to color when you hit add reply. You can also just choose your color, then type, then hit "close all tags" when you're done with that color.
For pics... go to "my controls" then something like "avatar options" or "edit my avatar", then choose one, then update it.
For similies, click on one or do the shortcut...for example, a colon and then a right paren. gives you a classic smilie face:
and a semi-colon followed by a right paren gives you a wink:
But clicking the smilie on the left will give you the colon and right paren. or whatever...when you hit add reply it changes.

It's fine
...I would definitely recommend Wheat Free Worry Free (by Danna Korn)

Most definitely your own toaster--the most important issue in cross-contamination. Though wood is probably the worst material to use for both gluten-free and non-gluten-free things, teflon is bad, too...too easy for stuff to get caught in it and I find that teflon often begins to peel pretty quickly, anyway.
-
I had just read about it on another board. Yes, that's terrific!
-
Definitely gluten-free... and I eat it a lot with no symptoms.

There was another article that required me to register free to view. I've done that sort of thing before, but only on the ones that actually seem quite interesting
.
This isn't an article, but I just found it. Free celiac recipes:

Thank you, Michelle

I was going to recommend Foods By George products, which are free of most things: gluten, dairy, casein, lactose, nuts, soy, etc. but noticed that none of their products are egg-free. I think that will be the biggest problem with finding foods--so many food places cater to dairy-free, but not nearly as much for eggs.
First, is your kitchen ready? New toaster is a must, same with wooden spoons and the like. Replace any teflon...
Umm...I don't know what's egg-free...I think Danielle's Chocolate Cake Mix from the Gluten Free Pantry is egg-free and dairy-free because...not positive. And it was quite good for not having two major components (eggs/dairy) to work with.
You'll want to have the basics around the house: veggies, meat, potatoes, etc. That way, in case you don't find a lot of gluten-free food that you like at first, you'll still have natural stuff to fall back on.
Tinkyada brown rice pasta is amazing...not sure if it's df/ef. Pamela's makes an Ultimate Brownie Mix or a similar name that is egg-free, but I'm not sure about dairy-free.
Sorry...someone with similar sensitivities might be able to help you a little more.

There are a few possibilities:
- That he has celiac also
- That he has a wheat allergy or sensitivity
- That he just doesn't feel well when he eats it. My mom doesn't have celiac disease, but certain wheat products can cause bloating, etc. We weren't supposed to eat wheat--our digestive systems can't digest part of it...
- That he has celiac also

Always call with the rare exception that many people verify that a product is gluten-free within a recent timeframe...then I might just read the label. It's not a big deal at all...but if you want to get a direct answer, sometimes you need to call...otherwise it can take awhile to get your answer.
I had to exchange e-mails with Baskin Robbins for days about a candy thing that they made. They kept saying it's gluten-free, but it might be contaminated and such, so it took awhile to get to the bottom of it

Pamela's cookies work amazingly well--I think the best for a sort of chocolately crust is the chocolate cookies with the choc. chips in them--crumbled up, of course.
-
Oh, I had heard that it was often given as a....fancy sort of present ...perhaps not. Umm...oh yeah, they're researching genetically modified wheat for celiacs that would be safe.
-
Mariann had that problem, but it isn't really a big deal. The board only sends out one or two reply notifications per topic, but when you follow the link on one reply to your topic, obviously, you'll see all the others. And it will send replies for all topics, just not every reply.
-
LOL, Karen...never thought of it that way.
Also, about 5% of first degree relatives have celiac so your sister really should get tested.
-
Nope...we have a PC w/ win 98 and we don't need any software. Just shut down the computer, put in the new mouse (any cheap one--$10 at Staples) and reboot... I haven't had to use any software for mice in years. What type of mouse is it? The Microsoft mouses don't need software--at least on my comp.

Yes--I use view new posts since I'm on all the time, but to track topics, scroll to the bottom and there's a little icon like a notepad or something in the bottom left. Click on that and it expands to give you options to subscribe to the forum, the topic, etc. Choose to track the topic and you will be sent e-mail notification at each reply. You can also set it to track any topic you reply to automatically (I think under my controls somewhere) but at the rate I post, I'm better off just viewing new posts

I also strongly dislike rice bread--too dry...I like the Ener-G tapioca loaf.
-
Yes--I don't think anyone has tested how a wooden spoon retains gluten, but it's just generally known to...just as teflon is thought to.

It's the specific carbohydrate diet. See this thread:

You know more about celiac disease, healing, etc., so don't let anyone tell you that it won't work
Looking at your signature: they are running tests, and it appears that dental problems contribute to celiac and that you can even predict whether someone is celiac or not by their dental enamel and ridges in their teeth. Depression/moodiness definitely improves, greater feeling of healthy in general, and though I don't know if osteo. can be stopped once it's started or not, it will definitely help your osteoporosis to be on the diet--more calcium, vit. D, and other vitamins and minerals will be absorbed. I don't know what other symptoms you have, but I can tell you that that should correct with the gluten-free diet. I find, also, that the little things you didn't realize before get better, as well. Maybe slight fatigue, slight muscle or joint pain or something, those little things that you're not thinking of right now, as you have bigger things to deal with. Keep your chin up

I sent you all the big list...unzipped when in doubt, zipped when that was requested. I've only sent one person the zipped folder of individual lists. I recommend the big list because it has all the small lists packed into one. Then you can view the various sections in the list or print only some of the pages...if anyone wants the small lists as well (zipped) please specify

They are--some hospital nutritionists don't understand what gluten is... we always have to be alert about food
I went to Columbia Presbyterian for my second biopsy and my operation, but they have the largest celiac program there, so they were very good about the diet both times.
At least you're okay!
