  1. Cool! Thanks for posting--love the idea, and for a good cause
  2. I forgot to mention-- I would LOVE it if there was a 100% gluten-free chain restaurant. The reason I don't eat out is because I'm so paranoid that even if the restaurant has a gluten-free menu, they could mess up my food. It would be amazing to order anything off the menu and feel confident that it's gluten-free.
  3. I know--lack of spontaneity....you can't just walk into a restaurant and say "this looks good." I think that's one of the worst things about the diet.
  4. Oh, thank you very much . I send many e-mails to food companies, but don't think to do so with restaurants. I don't eat out often, but my family is going to go skiing in early March., so it'll be nice to have a couple of chain restaurants I can rely on. Last year I ate in the hotel room w/ my mom--baked potatoes or Ore Ida french fries cooked in a toaster...
  5. Welcome to the board , You can order the Enterolab tests on your own through Open Original Shared Link. The prices vary from I think $99 and up, depending on whether you get individual tests or entire panels. You shouldn't try to do this with your doctor, because 9 times out of 10, or even more often, doctors will not take Enterolab tests as being...
  6. Oh, that was interesting to read--particularly about the withdrawl effects. I couldn't read it really carefully now, but I'll read it through more carefully later. I know that caffeine can be addictive, but I don't think that I consume enough for it to affect me too much. Thanks for posting, though
  7. It's completely about personal opinion. I think many would rather suffer for a few weeks and know for sure. Also, if you test negative for celiac and still have problems with gluten, you might be prompted to have other tests done that would result in problems with wheat, rye, and barley. I think that because it's so life-altering and since you've already...
  8. Did bloodwork test positive? If so, there's still a great chance of celiac. If not, then the chances are extremely slim if any such chances exist, but thanks for informing everyone here. -celiac3270
  9. Yes--as good as it sounds to write down what I'd love to eat or to smell it, I think it would be very difficult for me to eat some of these things, knowing what I do now about the damage it does to me and how sick it makes me.
  10. Yes--definitely. The delphiforums board is the largest celiac board on the web, I believe--many members and people are constantly on. You might also post your question there--I know you'd get many replies. They have great gluten-free lists that are updated often, very reliable, and comprised, edited, and corrected by the members of the board. You need...
  11. Yes--I miss it, too--particularly cheese ravioli. I had been having lasagna instead, which was just as good as my old gluten-filled lasagna (home-made with some flat noodles, made by Deboles I think). It's very good, but I haven't had it in many months since I cut out tomato sauce temporarily.
  12. Oh man......don't know where to start...lol. Pizza is the #1 food I miss....then bagels would be high on my list, but I found one I really like. I can't eat spaghetti sauce I right now so I really miss lasagna (but I've found my gluten-free lasagna (made w/ Deboles noodles, etc.) is just as good as the old one I used to have. Hmmm...I was thinking of everything...
  13. Good point--this applies to all gluten-free food. The gluten-free bagels I didn't like at the start are now my favorite that I eat every morning (made by Sans Gluten).
  14. Oh--something else I should mention. Regardless of whether she's Jewish or not (I'm not and I still take advantage of this), buy lots of food around Passover. All food labeled kosher for passover is gluten-free unless it contains matzoh. So she should definitely visit the grocery stores during that time and stock up. Last year I got chicken broth from...
  15. The gum, you mean, right? you're not referring to the actual mints.
  16. I don't know about Organic yogurts, but all of Yoplait is gluten-free--including flavored yogurts.
  17. Bring your own food, as the others suggested. Also, make sure you're aware of what gluten-free restaurants you could eat at along the way if you run out of food or want a change.
  18. Hi Conrack50 and Audrey, You mentioned something about e-mailing it, so I'll also e-mail this to you in case you don't check back on the board often or whatever. First off, I realize it's only a day after your neighbor's diagnosis, so I think I'll start at the beginning. Celiac disease affects approximately 1 in 133--many think it is even more...
  19. Just a note... If you change your signature and enter a post you've posted in or click on your user name, it should reflect that change, provided that the you open the post after you make the change or refresh it. It's fine to post, but just wanted to let you know
  20. Wow...are you sure that Altoid gum is gluten-free? Have you called the company? Cause I thought that maybe 4-7 months ago, there was a post about gum. Someone asked if it was gluten-free and someone else said it wasn't. If my memory is incorrect, I apologize for scaring you, but I just wanted to alert you to that in case you were accidentally consuming...
  21. Definitely--your problem with restaurants is almost 100% because they don't understand celiac. Maybe they go looking for the word "gluten" in the ingredients list, so they think that wheat or rye is okay. Companies will not do this. Actually, many companies will say they're not gluten-free, even if they likely are (such as Brach's with their candy corn...
  22. Oh wow...sorry--I'm the only celiac in my family so I don't have many people I can respond for. I know two other kids with celiac, though, and neither of them have diabetes, both are male. So you can add two more Yes, No, Male replies to your data.
  23. I got some sample booklets (prescription drugs, foods, over the counter drugs, etc. Very helpful since they also list phone numbers. I also got a sample download of a computer database thingy they have--I like them a lot. You can't use it fully unless it was verified very recently, but they give you a good idea of what's gluten-free and the phone number...
  24. Lipton tea is gluten-free--that's not your problem. gluten-free artificial sweeteners include: Natrataste, Equal, Sweet n Low, Stevia, and Splenda...there are probably more, but these are the ones I know about
  25. If you've been tested positive for celiac, then you have it and you're hurting your body regardless of whether you feel it or not. I noticed that you used the word "wheat" constantly, but never gluten. You do realize that celiac disease results in an intolerance to not only wheat, but also rye, barley, etc., right? I agree with Kristina that the best...
