  1. hello carbear-- i haven't suffered the other complications you have, but i just wanted to wish you well and hope that you can get everything figured out quickly. i'm so sorry you have all that to deal with, you are in my thoughts. let us know how everything goes--
  2. ok so i need some advice/support/insight/comments/complaints ... i've been gluten free for a bit over a year now and am feeling SO much better; however, i do still struggle with bloating and a general "full" feeling quite a bit. i have a few alcoholic drinks every once in a while and i've noticed that the morning after i have a some "D" and then feel really...
  3. hey fellow iowans!! i discovered an AMAZING pizza that is sold by hyvee stores. it was "invented" by a guy that has a talk show on the radio and the crust is made of cheese. you may have heard about it because i believe he's talked about it on air, but i just wanted to let everyone know that it is completely worth it to try!!! it tastes like a REAL,...
  4. i crave gluten things too. lately more than ever...don't know why. but i feel like i eat things now that i never ate much of before (i was never much of a chocolate/ice cream person) and now i eat those...usually without even tasting it cause i'm scarfing it down. i think it's like i'm craving these foods i can't have so i just stuff myself with other "bad...
  5. i can relate to being low in $$...college student here... i agree with everyone else, they've given really great suggestions. potatoes are pretty cheap and i use them in all sorts of ways: baked with various toppings (or plain), mashed, crispy roasted in the oven, etc etc. you can add different flavors to make it feel like you're not eating the same thing...
  6. WELCOME! so glad you decided to join. and i'm sure you'll soon find out that you're glad you did too!
  7. does anyone know exactly what day it is going to be on next week? keep me updated!! i hope it's tues or thurs otherwise i'll be in class and have to miss it...
  8. what about a small salad bar that doesn't have any other gluten containing food on it? my hometown there is only one restaurant and everyone always eats there, i'd like to join but am scared of what everyone says about buffets. this one has lettuce, carrots, pickles, cheese, pudding, eggs, and things of that nature. the croutons and that sort of thing are...
  9. thank you so much! i think i'm going to give them a try this weekend.... but sorry, one more question--does anyone know an addition/variation you could add to this to make them "belgiun waffles"? (i don't know if i spelled that right) i don't know exactly what makes them different than regular waffles.... thanks again!!
  10. a few posts back someone asked about a hot cereal. i didn't eat a lot of oatmeal before gluten-free but i found a recipe i loooove that i think similar to it. it is a rice pudding with just milk, rice, sugar, and then i like to add raisins and cinnamon and some slivered almonds. it's really good...but probably not nutritionally sound... hmm... lol you...
  11. i may seem like the idiot after all these posts, but the dietition here at my school said not to eat the shredded cheese in the dining center because they have had problems with it in the gluten dept. also i ate at a restaurant in chicago (which was very accomodating) but the waiter did tell me they used flour on their cheese (he opened a new bag for me tho...
  12. these are all really great so i won't be repetatitve. i do really like the suggestion of a special menu section for gluten-free items. The only different comment i have to add is that if a restaurant has a special/unique gluten-free item, i would be more likely to go there. because lets face it, i can have a plain baked potato at home--with no worries (and...
  13. i've only eaten there once because it's about 2 hours from where i live but i'm itching to go back... i ordered the garlic sauteed snap peas and they were SO good. i also got the flourless chocolate dome (which was obviously quite tasty if you're into that ) and i didn't have any problems, but i guess my stuff didn't have any sauces on it...i probably would...
  14. sorry this doesn't have anything to do with wendy's or subway.... but i just wanted to ask the person above me about your picture.... it looks really tasty...just wondering if you made it yourself? and if so could i maybe have the recipe? i haven't had a real waffle in ages....
  15. i'm pretty sure mine is bloating. i've always been a smaller sized person everywhere else (well...except the hips lol) and i workout everyday... but i still have this little like bulge in my lower stomach. it really bothers me and i don't know what do do about it. sometimes it will go away, but alot of times i still mostly have it... hopefully some others...
  16. for my recipes (esp gluten-free cheesecake) i use some sort of ground nut--usually pecans. i sub it equally for the crumbs and still add the Tbsp or whatever of melted butter/sugar. i love it and even non-gluten-free people say it's better than regular crust. i dunno... its something i do that's easier than trying to find all those gluten-free cookies/crackers...
  17. hey! i'm not exactly a "teen" either... but i am a soph in college and was in your same position last year. unfortunatly i didn't get my butt in gear with the dining centers till this year, but the good new is, once i did--they have been really helpful. i started out just emailing the dept of residence and saying i had a severe food issue that i needed...
  18. i agree with everyone else. it's so annoying (and almost hurtful) when it's your own family who just doesn't get it. whenever i say something that smells/looks good that i can't eat, my dad always says "oh you can have just a little bit" i think that one just down right pisses me off more than any other celiac-related comments. ggrrr (sorry this was a...
  19. hey! thanks guys did you have to order these cereals over the internet? or did you find them in a grocery store or something? i'm having trouble finding these...i have one more place to check around here, so *fingers crossed* haha thanks again--
  20. hey guys! my mom makes an amazing party mix...BUT it's not gluten free. i know it shouldn't be hard to adapt to gluten-free (nuts, i found gluten-free pretzals) but i'm having trouble finding a subsitute for cheerios and the chex/crispix type cereal. i've looked in all of my local health food areas....so i was just wondering if anyone had any specific...
  21. hey thanks! i've heard of senor frogs... i'll keep those in mind. what sorts of things did you order? (i'm also a vegetarian). normally when i eat out here, i just get a baked potato... thanks---
  22. i'm sorry...maybe i'm missing it here, but i don't understand what it is you're having trouble with??
  23. hey-- i'm going on spring break in march to cancun, mexico. this is my first time really traveling while gluten-free and first time ever out of the country... i'm a little nervous. i was just wondering if anyone had any advice/suggestions (aside from bringing an ENTIRE suitcase full of gluten-free food lol)?? esp. if you've traveled gluten-free to mexico...
  24. C for me also. gluten free has def. helped, but i can always tell when i get even a little. very, very crampy also. sorry, i don't have any remedies. but i hope going gluten-free continues to help you. good luck!
  25. hey guys-- i've been using burt's bees "honey" lip balm for a while cause i found out it's gluten-free and i really liked it...anyway, the point is: the last couple tubes i just bought seem to have a very different consistency/texture than the first few tubes i bought a few months ago...? i was just wondering if anyone else who uses this regulary noticed...
