Okay, I opened my mouth too soon. I said I have eaten the chips twice w/no problems. Well, the second time, I apparently have a problem. After I wrote my reply, I started experiencing some glutened symptoms. I thought it might have been the sushi I also had but I've had that a zillion times and it's vegetarian sushi . . . the chips, have been somewhat...

I eat the Trader Joes waffles w/no problems. And actually had the chips last night and have not had any problems. Had them before w/o problems. I prefer the baked lays myself and the baked Kettle chips.

Thanks! I might have to check it out some time. Davis has something similar though it has more "supplements" then food. Thanks for the info!

I am from Sacramento. Not far from the Bay Area. I am curious what store you are talking about. I agree, Whole Foods is great but also expensive (friends have nick named it Whole Paycheck). Thanks!

ARCHIVED Wedding Planning - Any Suggestions?
pturse replied to teebs in WV's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got married after I was diagnosed and well into the diet. We met w/the caterer and told her the situation. Not the huge deal I thought it would be. I am also vegetarian but I wanted to be sure that 1. the guests were happy first and me second when it came to food. I knew that I would be so preoccupied with "other" things at the wedding that we did... -
ARCHIVED Breathing Problems
pturse replied to dianegf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I seem to have breathing problems while sleeping. I never had them before going gluten free but now, my husband cannot sleep because I am gasping for air or am breathing out quite heavily in my sleep. Sometimes if I have just fallen asleep I even wake myself up but mostly because he is a light sleep he feels the ill effects. It is bad enough I have to get... -
There is a small mention of CELIAC in the January (or possibly February) Edition of SHAPE magazine. Which ever magazine is on stands currently. At least it mentions that 3 million Americans have the disease.

ARCHIVED This Gene Is Inherited From Where?
pturse replied to azedazobollis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not saying everyone who wasn't breastfed has celiacs. And I cannot understand how it does not make sense to you. But oh well. -
ARCHIVED This Gene Is Inherited From Where?
pturse replied to azedazobollis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I heard it on an NPR radio program in Sacramento. Here is the link to the web page where you can listen to the program. Open Original Shared Link And it makes total sense to me. And there is no hope telling my Italian father that he can no longer have bread, pasta and beer. He is the healthiest man I know for his age and yeah I know you don... -
ARCHIVED This Gene Is Inherited From Where?
pturse replied to azedazobollis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have it and my brother and father do not (or so they say because they have not been tested). They show no signs. My my mother's sister has it. I heard that lack of breast feeding may play a huge role. That the milk from a mother can help maintain and strengthen a babies intestinal wall. Also, when mothers do not breast feed and use formula, the formula... -
I have been gluten-free for over a year with a few mishaps but absolutely no relief. Recently I have decided to cut out sugar. Refined and in candy. I used to have a huge candy addiction, still do but it is under control. Needless to say, I feel tremendously better in my stomach and intestines. The only thing that seems to really bother me now are vegetables...

ARCHIVED Quitting Beer Drinking
pturse replied to faithladene's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I thought Hornsby was gluten free?? Also, according to Amstel Light, they are gluten free, they do not use wheat in making their beer and any malt is burned off in the process. I had a rep tell me directly. That may be a choice for someone who is addicted to beer. It is also the lowest in calories! I drink w/o problems but I always prefer wine first... -
ARCHIVED 10 Months Gf -- And I Still Have Symptoms
pturse replied to celiac3270's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed in early 2003 via biopsy. I guess you can say I have been strictly following the diet since Jan. 04. My symptoms before were just diarreah which I didn't think was odd because I have had it since I was born. I was pretty much used to it. The other symptom that was more annoying was the gas and bloating. No pain really. Since being on the... -

Thanks I already am dairy free for the most part because I am lactose intolerant. I can't seem to give up corn and rice though because I am also a vegetarian and w/o those staples, I would be miserable. What seems to bother my stomach the most, believe it or not, are vegetables! All kinds. They flow right through and the gluten-free soy sauce seems to...

I was curious if anyone else had these problems . . . my sleep is constantly interrupted by me having to get up at least 5 times a night to use the rest room. It is horrible because I feel like I am never sleeping. I get up just fine and I survive the day just fine . . . sometimes I am really tired come 9:00 but normally can stay awake until 11:00. Also...

ARCHIVED Amstel Light
pturse replied to WayneB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I spoke with a rep from Amstel Light and they say it is gluten free. If you email them, they will explain the process to you. It is allowed and used by Celiacs in Europe. I drink it on occassion w/o any problems and I am fairly sensitive. The Ramapo Beer tastes awful. And sometimes I am so tired of wine. -
Here is a website I use. Open Original Shared Link If that doesn't work, go to www.glutenfreerestaurants.org

ARCHIVED Prednisone As Treatment?
pturse replied to pturse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes. I have checked for bacterial growth. There was none. As for other intolerances, I am lactose intolerant and already avoid dairy. What foods seem to bother me the most are vegetables. All vegetables. I do not eat meat so my options are limited. -
ARCHIVED Prednisone As Treatment?
pturse replied to pturse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey everyone, thought I would give an up date. I have really been feeling awful lately for no apparent reason. I know I have not had any gluten intake and yet the cramping & "D" has become out of control some days. I actually had to stay home from work one day because of it and that has never happened. Before going gluten-free I never really had cramping... -

ARCHIVED Prednisone As Treatment?
pturse replied to pturse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lib Thank you for your response. I guess everyone is different in terms of reacting to certain drugs. If I could handle a small does such as 5mg then perhaps I my be interested in talking more with my doctor about it. I never like taking drugs. But I am seeking some relief. First I plan to try the scdiet . . . see what happens and then when I have to go... -
ARCHIVED Mi-del Contaminated?
pturse replied to Donna F's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My Safeway just started selling the gluten-free Mi-Dels and I could not be happier with them! I was honestly an animal cracker fiend and these suffice nicely. No problems with Mi-Del here.
