ARCHIVED Diet Diary?
Kaycee replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it has only been two days on the diet, I would think you would have to give things a bit longer than that before you see any response to it. You could still be re-acting to something you ate 4 days ago. Good luck, and I think a food diary would help. Cathy -
On my mothers side, Croatian, on my fathers side a mixture of Irish, English and maybe scottish Cathy

I suffered insomnia through coeliac. Over the last twenty years my sleeping got worse and worse. It was like I woke up on the hour every hour, and if unlucky I couldn't get back to sleep. It felt like I couldn't get into a deep sleep, always half awake. Then I gave up gluten due to being diagnosed with coeliac. True my sleeping over those first few...

Did someone mention salt! I was just eating my tea with chips and my son came in and said "you have way too much salt on those." And just reading the last two comments, I would say my salt consumption has been upped, especially going by how much I add to things like chips. But I still try to avoid salt in the way of processed food, but you need salt...

ARCHIVED Impossible Chocolate Pie
Kaycee replied to beanpole's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How about Magic Pie 4 eggs 1/4 margarine or butter 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup gluten free flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 2 cups milk 1 cup of coconut 1 tsp vanilla essence Place all ingredients in blender and blend until mixed together Pour into a buttered pie dish Bake at 175 degrees celcius (350?) for an hour When cooked the crust will be... -
I guess I am the unusal one. I gave up soy on a whim, and I personally don't like the thought of soy, like wheat, it is in nearly everything. I knew something else was bothering me after being gluten free for 6 months, so I thought I would do an elimination diet, and I did stop eating soy along with dairy and peanuts. But it made no difference, so I bought...

Hi nzgirl I'm not sure if we can be glutened by just touching gluten products, but I know cooking with flour will make me sick. I love cooking, so I will just have to stop treating my family, and cook them gluten-free stuff. I'm not sure whether it is because I am breathing in the flour, or whether it is being absorbed, but I think it is more like being...

ARCHIVED Any Reactions To Caramel Color?
Kaycee replied to Aligray's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Caramel? I have wondered in the past about it myself. There seems to be a few different types 150a, 150b, 150c and 150d and I presume they are all processed differently. I read everywhere that they are gluten free. But then I have read on some items of food in New Zealand that the 150c, (it was in ice-cream) is derived from wheat. I know I can tolerate... -
ARCHIVED Being Overweight With Gluten Sensitivity?
Kaycee replied to byrmanson's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am still an overweight coeliac, I have been overweight and even obese on and off since I was a child, I have always been hungry and loosing weight has been a battle. I do loose it, but it is such a challenge. Now that I have been eating gluten free for a couple of years, the hunger is not there as much. I still know how to eat, and have to be extra careful... -
Talking about quotes, what is the best way to use them? Do you have the quote first then your reply, or do you have the quote first and then your reply? I tend to reply and have the quote, if any underneath. Being from the southern hemisphere, I might be a bit upside down in my thinking. Cathy

I don't mind change too much, but I am wondering like the rest whether it is a good change or not. It appears that the quotes in any message seem to distract from the reply and it can take a little time to find the reply. I didn't know green was the colour for gluten-free, that might explain why some gluten-free products come in their green bags. Cathy

Hello Dyan, I think your daughter is lucky she has a persistant and caring mother who wants answers. Yes my doctor thought a blood test was good enough of a diagnosis for coeliac, he did order a biopsy but I had to wait on the public health system and it took a year to happen, and I had been gluten free for about a year at that stage. Needless to...

Was only here about an hour ago looking, and at the risk of stating the obvious the appearance of this forum has changed. I'm sure it is not the drink I am enjoying at this point in time.

ARCHIVED Healed And Never Get Sick
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Momma Goose. I was a lot like you, I felt overhwelmed and sick the first nine months after going gluten free. Even things that didn't have gluten in them made me sick. I was constantly having diarrhoea, and that horrid stomach. I think I was sicker than what I was prior to diagnosis. I guess this was the healing process. Then I did a couple of things... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes the scrunch up (silicone) bakeware is wonderful. I have my own toaster too, but at one stage I had them side by side, mine and theirs, and twice I put my toast in the wrong one, even though one was white and the other black! So I now stick mine away in the cupboard and have to bring it out everytime I need it. I kept my stainless steel pots, I make... -

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Miss Wing Bat The thing that gets me with labelling is when they just put flavour, or nautral flavour on them, without numbers or reference to where it is evolved from etc. I'm a numbers fanatic as some numbers like 150c I wouldn't touch with a ten foot barge poll, well I try to avoid most numbers, but that is my personal choice and has nothing to do with... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Kassandra, Joss was right in saying that NZ is similar in it's labelling laws to Australia. We here have to have things labelled if they contain any 8 of the most common food allergens or intolerances. We may not have as much variety as Aussie, but we have an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables. Hope you enjoy your stay. Cathy -
Story of my life too, but not in the US. I knew my problems had to be related to something, something that I ate everyday. I did not make the connection until I tried dieting, eating naturally less bread and what do you know, I figured it out. It was the gluten getting me. Cathy

We all have our secrets, some big some small, some we would like to share, and others we just want to hide away from. Bolts come out of the blue when least expected and can have the most profound effect on you. Sons are for keeps and sons keep me going, I would hate to think where I would be without my sons, all four of them. I would like to think we...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet & Issues
Kaycee replied to zcc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
zcc, Other things could be going on there, but you still need to exercise a bit of patience and learn to relax a bit if you can, as it might take a while to feel completely better. I did a lot of tossing and turning to start with, but I think that was because I was totally blown away and wasn't expecting all the host of emotions I had experienced by just... -
That is wonderful Ali. It reminds me of the time when I went to visit my parents far far away and they had a friend who had Coeliac. I was so excited having met my first real live coeliac. I was at the stage where I thought I was taking things too seriously in what I could and couldn't eat, upon meeting him, it re-inforced my belief that I was doing...

I know it is real, but I have at times I wondered whether it was all in my head. To start with I felt better immediately, but then I didn't feel any more improvements. Like everyone says, it was probably because I was healing and my stomach was coming to terms with everything. Remember, it has probably taken us years to get to where we were before...

ARCHIVED It Was Solid... And It Sank!
Kaycee replied to mommyagain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, sigh, it is the little things. But I am still waiting nearly two years down the line for mine to be sinkers! Cathy Didn't mean to put in a grumpy face, I tried to get rid of it and thought I had. Cathy -
OK trying to be optomistic Ive been gluten free for 1 month straight now. My stomach pains have stayed the exact same. Headsches have decreased slightly. But starving constantly is worse than anything. I went to Sprouts and bought all the gluten-free foods they offer. My wallet is empty along with my belly. soooo is it worth it? yes yes it is. Ill keep at...
