ARCHIVED Enterolab
AndreaB replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We got the whole panel that costs $369 and included milk (if they are still offering the milk in with that). We also got the soy/yeast/egg panel for $199. Very pricey but as we had eaten a lot of soy we wanted to know about that as well. I didn't even try and see if our insurance would cover it. I figured not because we haven't shown symptoms so to... -
ARCHIVED Have Ds With Celiac, Pregnant With #2
AndreaB replied to shan1523's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gluten can pass through the breastmilk (as well as the placenta). Have you gone through any testing? We did testing through enterolab which is expensive but does tell you whether you have an active sensitivity. I don't know the percentage chance of other siblings developing celiac disease if one has it. Take care of yourself. Do you have help for after... -
ARCHIVED Newbie And Multiple Food Intolerances
AndreaB replied to CeliacInSanDiego's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would think being on a gluten free diet would be sufficient for your son unless he shows signs of intolerance to other grains. My family just went gluten free (except for some granola my hubby is finishing). He's the only one that doesn't have an active gluten sensitivity but he has two genes that predispose to celiac. I showed alot of allergies when... -
ARCHIVED Envirokidz Animal Cookies
AndreaB replied to KayJay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I get to that point. I have seen the panda treats but haven't seen the cookies. I'll have to look for them. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
AndreaB replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel, I assume they use a laser. Not really sure how those things work. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
AndreaB replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
20 months old is plenty old to have enterolab do the testing. They have different panels that test for gluten, gene, malabsorption, milk, egg, soy, yeast. I think that all. They don't do full allergy tests. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
AndreaB replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel, I would have made an appoinment pronto too. You never know, it may help. -
ARCHIVED Starting Baby On Solids. What Would You Do?
AndreaB replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow! I'll see if I can hold him off for another month or so. I think he was really messed up as I was eating lots of soy and gluten while pregnant. We were vegans. He is growing fine and has been gaining weight. Don't know what would have happened if I had stayed on soy and gluten. -
ARCHIVED Starting Baby On Solids. What Would You Do?
AndreaB replied to AndreaB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Carla, Enterolab needs 1/2 cup sample. That's kind of hard with exclusively breastfeeding. Everything soaks into the diaper and even changing him immediatly and scaping what I could it would take awhile to get a sample. I do plan on testing him, just trying to figure out when. I started my other two on solids at 6 months as recommended.... -
ARCHIVED For Those With Gluten Tolerant & Intolerant Family Members
AndreaB replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My whole house is going gluten free. My husband was willing even before we got our enterolab tests back. The only gluten thing was oats and oat products in cereals. Everyone but my husband (don't know about baby) has an active sensitivity (maybe beginning celiac, don't know how these numbers work). If you aren't comfortable with everyone being gluten... -
ARCHIVED Starting Baby On Solids. What Would You Do?
AndreaB posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 6 1/2 month old son Seth broke out with eczema on his face between 2 and 2 1/2 months. After undergoing allergy tests for myself in March and leaving off of soy (February) and most gluten (April) I saw improvement. I wasn't too concerned about oats initially as my allergy tests didn't indicate a problem with them and I didn't have anything with oats... -
ARCHIVED Nursing Baby With Celiac?
AndreaB replied to mom in Iowa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest is 6 1/2 months old and still exclusively breastfeed. He's starting to want to nurse more so I don't know how much longer I can hold him off of solids. He broke out in eczema on his face just after his 2 month well check/vaccinations. One of the vacs has soy protein in it. Anyway, I underwent allergy testing to try and figure out what... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab!
AndreaB replied to mommyetb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's Great!!! It's nice to know that you can go to enterolab. It is so much better than having to wait until alot of damage is done. We just had testing done for the family (see signature). Keep us posted on the results. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
AndreaB replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Christine, I don't have a problem with MSG, just don't like to consume it if I can avoid it. It makes it real hard when they are starting to put it in everything. Don't have the option of a garden just now. We are in a rental and would have to build a box and bring in soil. Our ground is clay and not garden friendly. I use Lundberg Organic Long... -
ARCHIVED Infant Diagnosis
AndreaB replied to averyannsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know if I have an infant with celiac or gluten intolerance or not. I would assume gluten intolerance. He broke out in eczema about 2 months of age. I underwent allergy testing and found out I was allergic to gluten and soy among other things (see signature). His eczema has disappeared with the exception to small flare ups. When he flairs up I... -
ARCHIVED Which Lab Is Best For Testing
AndreaB replied to dog lover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had my whole family, except the baby, tested by Enterolab. The results came back quickly and before I placed my order Phyllis was very helpful. Haven't talked to anyone else over there. My doctor was willing to run a celiac panel for me but I had been gluten free (or mostly) for 1 1/2 months. Right now my son is my barometer on whether I've eaten... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
AndreaB replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jerry, When you place your order with Enterolab they send you a package with a container and instructions. We had our testing done by Enterolab because of my allergy test results. The results from Enterolab are listed in the signature. -
ARCHIVED Vegetarian Vs Eating Meat
AndreaB replied to schuyler's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Danielle, That's great that you've gained weight and are starting to feel better. I've been researching gluten free/dairy free and soy free stuff. Kinnikinnick was one of the things I had been looking into. Do you buy it at a local store or did you order it? -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
AndreaB replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Cali and Christine, I gave up dairy 3 years ago for the vegan diet. What I replaced it with was soy, which I have since read is bad for you. What I miss the most is butter quite honestly. We've converted over to rice milk, although my daughter still doesn't like it. I tested allergic to gluten/gliadin/soy/dairy. I'm hoping that the dairy isn't permanent... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Eating Oats?
AndreaB replied to Mayam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rachel, My family eats oats, but I don't know if we have celiac or allergic/intolerant. I have not had them for the last 1 1/2 months. The rest of my family just went gluten free with the exception of oats and I will be including them soon. Reading the home page for celiac.com it seems as if oats are not as bad as thought but still affect some people... -
ARCHIVED Need gluten-free/ef Potateo Salad Recipe
AndreaB replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Being a vegan until recently I have lots of mayonnaise recipes. I have not tried many of these and I don't eat soy anymore and don't recommend eating soy, but as that is a personal decision I've included some with soy. Here goes. Instant Mayonnaise 1 c water (purified or distilled 1/2 c soy milk powder 1/2 tsp... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
AndreaB replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel, In your quest for info on msg..I have a question. The list you posted of hidden msg listed vitamins. Would that even include tablets? All vitamins or just the ones with B vitamins? I've got to try and track down another calcium vitamin, the one I have has gelatin capsules and cellulose I believe. I need extra calcium for the baby... -
ARCHIVED Vegetarian Vs Eating Meat
AndreaB replied to schuyler's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Danielle, I haven't read through the forum yet, but I wanted to let you know what I've read online and rely part of my story. I have read that soy is not as good as we were led to believe. It causes as much or more damage to the intestines as gluten. I was on a vegan diet for 3 years as I believed it was healthier to not eat meat. I relied... -
ARCHIVED New To This
AndreaB replied to Anglgrle3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Angel! From what I've read by other posters....it sounds like gluten is causing your symptoms. If you don't need a dx than try going gluten free and see if that makes you feel better. Enjoy the community, it's great! -
ARCHIVED Newbie-need Help Support
AndreaB replied to rachellek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Rachelle, You will find a lot of loving, helpful people on this forum. I can only respond by what I have read. Many people have said if you feel better on the gluten free diet than take that as a dx unless you firmly need it in writing. It's not worth all the agony you're going through (in my opinion) to continue with gluten for a month. Also...
