  1. The Nestle's Crunch is not gluten-free and I think the regular Milky way has gluten (the dark or midnight one does not). Nestles, Hershey and Russell Stover all plainly list gluten if it's there. All Wrigley gum is gluten-free (in fact gum is pretty mch gluten-free). richard
  2. You must keep eating gluten until the tests are over. The diet can be a real pain but it gets much easier as time goes along. I'll take this over diabetes any day because diabetes can have some awful side effects, including loss of vision, amputation and early death. And I'll certainly take celiac over the cancer they THOUGHT I had. A lot of stuff does...
  3. I'm pretty sure it's all but you can call 1-800-NABISCO and ask. richard
  4. Rolaids, Axid AR, Zantac, Prilosec OTC richard
  5. Yes. Richard
  6. Everybody has different symptoms so it's hard to say. The most common symptom is fatgue. But your doctor really should start with the celiac blood panel, not an endoscopy. richard
  7. General Mills doesn't hide gluten. All Yoplait flavors are gluten-free, but they do have some that comes with a separate package of granola. Don't use the granola. richard
  8. A frequent cause of continued problems is bacterial overgrowth. I know some on this thread are aware of this and have tried it, but for those who haven't, get a probiotic like Culturelle and take it. It might be that simple. richard
  9. You might also ask for help at the forum below. I know there are numerous people there who have faced this problem. Open Original Shared Link richard
  10. All rum I've ever checked has been gluten-free. In fact, practically every distilled alcohol out there is gluten-free. richard
  11. CSA is wrong, or at least partly wrong. The USDA has control over what's injected into meat. By law, if a solution contains something that adds nutritional value (this incudes wheat and barley) to the meat, then it must be plainly listed. It cannot be hidden in "flavoring" or "broth." Mind you, this applies to raw fresh or frozen meat. What this means is...
  12. There's one many dentists use (Next) that is gluten-free in all flavors. You can solve this problem, however, by asking for plain pumice or by bringing your own toothpaste. Or you can find out the brand he uses and call the company. richard
  13. Midel makes some gluten-free ginger snaps. richard
  14. MOST deli meats are gluten-free but not all. Boar's Head has two that aren't and Sara Lee has a few that aren't (they'll send you a list if you call or e-mail). In addition, if you're having them slice them there at the counter, you need to get them to clean the slicer first. Most places will do this with no problem but I try to go when they aren't busy....
  15. Every ricotta I've ever checked has been gluten-free. Breakstone is. And it's not true that you have to avoid all blue cheese. Most blue cheese in the U.S. is made on an artificial medium. Boar's Head is gluten-free. So is the Outback blue cheese dressing. In addition, even if a blue cheese is cultured on bread, the amount of gluten (if any is transferred...
  16. Here's what Heinz says on their website. Where can I find gluten-free products? Heinz Ketchup does not contain any gluten (the distilled vinegar used is from corn sources). Also, Wine Vinegar, Distilled White Vinegar and Apple Cider Vinegar are gluten-free. Please note that Apple Cider Flavored Vinegar is not gluten-free. Heinz Hot & Spicy Ketchup...
  17. Here's what Ruth's Chris said 8 months ago. Appetizers/Soups/Salads _ gluten-free _ Barbequed Shrimp _ Shrimp Remoulade _ Shrimp Cocktail _ Onion Soup (WITHOUT croutons) _ Ahi Tuna (WITHOUT sauce) _ All salads (WITHOUT croutons) _ All salad dressings (EXCEPT Ranch --outside source) _ NOT gluten-free _ Mushrooms with Crab _ Crab Cakes _ Lobster...
  18. I'm not a doctor so I obviously can't tell you whether you do or don't have celiac disease, but if your doctor is actually convinced you do have it, I think she's being exceedingly irresponsible to tell you it's OK not to go gluten-free. More than 20 years ago I was diagnosed with DH. Although my doctor kept urging me to go gluten-free (no mention of...
  19. I've personally never seen the use of a bracelet for celiac. If I'm being treated for an illness or accident that's so severe I can't communicate, I want them to do whatever they need to do to save my life, even if it involves gluten. And in that situation they aren't going to be forcing pills down your throat, they'll be putting in IVs or giving you shots...
  20. I don't think having celiac disease makes people more sensitive to viruses. Some kids where I live have had a stomach bug recently and none of them have celiac disease. richard
  21. What it means is some company lawyer told them to say that just in case sometime somehow one of their suppliers sends them a contaminated ingredient. The reality is that you take this chance every time you eat any processed product or eat at a restaurant. If you eat out you're taking a MUCH bigger chance than if you used SBR. I know a number of people...
  22. I'm not sure here you heard celiacs couldn't eat fish but it's definitely not true. People who also have DH sometimes have to stop eating shellfish with iodine until the DH clears up, but that's it. There have also been rumors about barley in farming ponds getting all over the fish or wheat in the fish feed shwoing up in the meat -- none of which is true...
  23. I wouldn't say it's "typical" in that most people I knopw with celiac don't have a problem with soy. But it certainly does happen. richard
  24. I've been gluten-free almost three years and have discovered during that time that vanilla just is not something to be worried about. Updating a list once a year isn't enough. Probably the most up-to-date list is the one from Clan Thompson but you have to pay for it. The best way to do it is to simply call the companies yourself. If you have a cell phone...
  25. The most common figure I hear is three months for a challenge. But you might end up too sick to go even a month. If that happens, that would seem to answer the question without blood tests. richard
