ARCHIVED Celiac Conference In Stanford, Ca - Sept '06
jayhawkmom replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Unbelieveably, I'm in Kansas.... so it's going to be a big trip! My daughter and I are both newly dx as gluten intolerant. I'm not getting the answers and support that I would like, around here, so when I received the email about the conference, I told my dh that I felt it was my duty, as a parent, to go and educate myself by those who ARE educated on the... -

I am going!! I'm actually brand new to all this, but I could not miss a chance to see/meet Danna Korn. I've spoken with her online a few times, and just to be around others who "get it" will be nice. Plus... I need a break from my kids. =) -
Anemia causes sleep disturbances? I know I'm anemic.... Dh says I do snore, not all the time though.

ARCHIVED Non Celiac Gluten Intolerance
jayhawkmom replied to Dyang's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While there is a difference between Celiac and Gluten Intolerance, they both require the exact same diet. So, why the lable difference? My blood tests indicate that I have a gluten intolerance, but they don't suggest that I have Celiac Specific Damage. That's a good thing. I figure, by going gluten-free now, I can avoid the "end stage" damage and save my... -
How would one KNOW if they have sleep apnea? I'm sitting here reading all of these posts, and I'm really kind of clueless. My daughter had sleep apnea, or so it seemed, until her tonsils were removed. Once she recovered from surgery... she's been sleeping just fine. I am tired ALL day, and it's not just a sleepy tired, it's a mental and physical exhaustion...

ARCHIVED Your Expert Opinions
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so wishy washy with this. You are right, totally. I know I feel better without it, so why do I keep questioning everything?? This is frustrating. I'm having NO problem keeping it out of my daughter's diet. Why can't I do the same for myself?? I don't want to be sentanced to a life of constantly running (like a madman) to the bathroom every 20 minutes... -
ARCHIVED List Of Power Bars/gels That Are gluten-free
jayhawkmom replied to Sandyo's topic in Sports and Fitness
I love the Lara Bars, especially the Pecan Pie one. Yum! And, Clif Nectar - Dark Chocolate with Walnuts tastes just like a mushy brownie! =) I tried the Bumble Bars and didn't care for them at all. I wish I did like them! -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests & Enterolab
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This may be a silly question... but if I've already had a Celiac panel done, and the results were inconclusive - will testing through Enterolab be any more conclusive?? I'd really like to avoid waiting for my GI appointment - even more so, I'd like to avoid being gluten-free and then being told that I need to eat it again. Thanks for your thoughts! -

I got the results of my bt while on vacation, but stopped to pick them up today so I can take them to the GI with me in August. I'm a bit aprehensive about continuing to eat gluten for another month when I already know that I feel better when I don't eat it. However, my bt results are questionable. But, not so much. I just don't know what to think.... -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are gluten-free But Tested Negative....
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you, everyone, for the replies. I went ahead and had the testing done yesterday... and started an official gluten-free diet today. My fear though is that they are going to want to do an endoscopy. I know I feel better without, so why continue to eat it just for a biopsy?? Anyhow, i appreciate all the help. You guys are great!! I'm heading out... -

ARCHIVED What Blood Tests Should Be Ordered?
jayhawkmom replied to Homegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had testing done this morning. What was ordered for me was: Ttg Total IgA EMA Gliadin IgA & IgE My orders were written up by a physician's assistant who is a Celiac herself. So I'm pretty sure all my bases were covered, as far as bloodwork goes. -
ARCHIVED Where Does It Hurt?
jayhawkmom replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow, I could have written that. My lower abdomen always feels like there is a way-too-small elastic band around it. My stomach/intestines gurgle constantly, and I'm always SO darn hungry! 75% of the time, it's extreme discomfort. The rest of the time, it's just pure pain. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are gluten-free But Tested Negative....
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am lactose intolerant - and up until last Sunday, I had no idea there was a corrolation. I'd gladly give up gluten if it meant I could have ice cream. =) -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Dummies
jayhawkmom replied to swittenauer's topic in Publications & Publicity
I bought it, and LOVE it. Primarily because I'm brand new to this, and it puts things in VERY basic, easy to understand terms. When one is as overwhelmed as I am... basic is good! -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are gluten-free But Tested Negative....
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, yea...that's true. Never really thought about that. I guess it's just easier to say, "Well, I tested positive so I can't eat it." I does seem kind of ridiculous when I think about it that way. I really don't need any blood tests to tell me that I know I feel better. "Issues" clear up, and I have more energy - overall. I'm going for the testing... -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are gluten-free But Tested Negative....
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter tested positive for wheat allergy a few months ago. Immediately, I pulled all wheat/gluten from her diet. We had a standing order for a Celiac panel, and was then informed that she had to be consuming gluten for the tests to be accurate. We both started eating it again...and both felt like crud. Her endoscopy was on the 13th of June. Negative... -
ARCHIVED Daughter And Symptoms Question
jayhawkmom replied to juljoh70's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had the vomitting... she was diagnosed with ulcers in her lower intestines. There was a reflux issue, not with her esophogus, that was causing the vomitting. She's been put on Prevacid, and hasn't vomitted since! She has a billion other symptoms, and blood work came back inconclusive to Celiac, very conclusive to Gluten Intolerance, and the... -
ARCHIVED Doubting Dr. Thomas
jayhawkmom replied to L.A.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm very new here, and still wondering around just reading, reading, and reading. I came across this and wanted to ask, where do you think my daughter fits in here? For reference purposes - the lab we used gave us the following information as THEIR norms. I realize other labs have other standards. Ttg - <5 (my daughter's was 4) IgA - <10 (hers... -
ARCHIVED Tortilla Chips At Restaurants
jayhawkmom replied to Mabc's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
At a CSA meeting I went to on Sunday, the speaker mentioned that some Mexican restaurants add flour to their SALSA to give it a thicker consistancy. Those of you regularly eating salsa might want to reconsider.... and/or ask about the salsa before eating it. -
I have to learn to speak up. When we went to Red Robin, about a week ago, I asked for a Gluten Free menu. (I'd been told they were available) And, the server looked at me as if I were speaking a totally different language than she was. We ended up getting our daughter fries, and lemonaid. I was too afraid to let her try anything else.

We just had TB this evening. My daughter had "plain" tostadas with just cheese. No sauce, no meat, no nothing but cheese.

ARCHIVED Idea - How About A gluten-free Convention
jayhawkmom replied to Nantzie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just saw this thread...and thought it would be AWESOME!! In my area, in August, they are having a gluten-free picnic, sponsored by the Cel Kids network, for all the little gluten-free kids in the area. I was told that last year, companies came out of the woodwork to donate stuff and that all families in attendance went home with a huge bag full of products...
