ARCHIVED Versed And Demerol
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My EGD was yesterday at 1 PM. I actually was wheeled into the room at 2:00. It's 5:00 the day after, and I'm still SOOOOOO gosh darn tired!! Is this normal?? I slept all afternoon yesterday. I took a 3 hour nap earlier this afternoon, and I'm ready for bed. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this exhaustion and sleepiness?? Is it the versed... -
ARCHIVED Beyond Frustration... What Can I Eat Now?
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Therein lies the problem. Yes, I can eat SOME fresh veggies - but not a lot of the ones I like... no peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, onions...etc. I can't eat fresh fruit. I'm lactose intolerant, so I can't do dairy. And, my daughter has a life threatening allergy to peanuts/tree nuts ---- so I can't eat nuts. Ursela - I just got a rice cooker today and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Wedding Cake
jayhawkmom replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't know where you live, but in my area there is a gluten-free bakery, and she does wedding cakes. I have a recommendation, and I'm not sure what you'll think about it - but I wanted to toss it out there. 1. Have a "regular" wedding cake out for all the guests to see (if you plan to serve regular cake). And, have YOUR gluten-free cake in a safe... -
ARCHIVED Beyond Frustration... What Can I Eat Now?
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In another post, I reported that I had my endoscopy yesterday. I don't know the results, but I do know that my small intestines were red, inflammed, etc. I started my 100% gluten-free diet yesterday. But, I was also diagnosed with a fairly serious case of GERD. I didn't realize that GERD could BE as serious as I was told mine is. I have scarring from... -
ARCHIVED My Endoscopy Today....
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, glad I had it done otherwise I would never have known how BAD my reflux was. I assumed that I just had normal everyday reflux. But, I have scarring! That's not good. =( -
I have one on my left calf - about mid way between my knee and ankle. I LOVE it. It hurt like crazy while having it done, but immediately following - I had no pain. Mine is a Celtic Motherknot, with my kids birthstone colors. It's about 4" in height and 3" wide. I had no problems or issues with it at all.

ARCHIVED My Endoscopy Today....
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just got home, I'm resting - my head feels like it's about 10 feet above my shoulders - but I feel alright. And, my throat hurts a bit...but not too bad. It really was no big deal. Like Penguins experience... the IV was the worst part, and even that wasn't too bad. I'm pretty frustrated by my results...... 1. Esophageal Stricture (narrowed widening... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Are Finally In -- It's Finally Hitting Me
jayhawkmom replied to Aerin328's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If they would have wanted to me to wait...and eat it, I would NEVER have consented to it. I saw the GI on Tuesday.... and had an appointment for the endoscopy for tomorrow. Someone cancelled, and they moved me RIGHT up instead of rescheduling someone else. =) I got lucky in that respect!!! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Girl Goes On A Date
jayhawkmom replied to kari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it were me... I would ask him what he'd planned to pick up, and give him some suggestions. If you aren't comfortable explaining your "diet" to him, you could easily make some very generalized suggestions... fruits, veggies, things you KNOW are gluten-free. Of course, I've been married for almost 10 years and have NO clue what the dating world is like... -
ARCHIVED Ages Of Diagnosis
jayhawkmom replied to Mayflowers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm 36. I feel like crap. But, I AM consuming gluten at current - in preparation for my endoscopy tomorrow. (Not a lot.... ) The funny thing is.... right now I feel like I *always* feel. I didn't realize just how bad I'd been feeling until I removed gluten from my diet. I can't wait till after this EGD tomorrow so I can get back to the gluten-free... -
Doin' a flyby... I just had to share this. Here's a pic of my little guy, devouring his little gluten free cake! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a228/jay...m/cakeface1.webp

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Are Finally In -- It's Finally Hitting Me
jayhawkmom replied to Aerin328's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ya know what? The same thing happened to me! I was dx (gluten intolerant) by elevated IgG only. My test was also done on 7/6 - which just happened to be my daughter's 5th birthday. The reference range for the lab I went through was under 11. Mine was 69. I'm having an endoscopy tomorrow. My GI informed me that after midnight tonite I will be... -
ARCHIVED I Wonder If We'll Ever See....
jayhawkmom replied to Turtle's topic in Publications & Publicity
I've actually seen the commercial on the food network too. It's the girl who blogs "glutenfreegirl" - and it's about a 30-45 second commercial. I too would love to see a commercial for Kinnikinnick or Tinkyada or something like that!! =) -
You guys are sending kids off to college.... and here I am, celebrating my son's FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!! My little guy will be 'officially' 1 at 10:48!! My boss took her daughter to college yesterday. She'll be back on Monday, she took today and tomorrow off to grieve. =( With my daughter, I'm actually starting with "preschool" basics. If she progresses...

YEP!! Public toilets are much much cleaner than say... your office phone!!! Anyone ever watch Mythbusters?? That episode disgusted me!!! -
Jessica.... maybe you can help me! =) I'm actually homeschooling my daughter this year. She should be in kindergarten. But, due to her TINY stature - and a whole wealth of other issues, we've decided to hold her back this year and give her a chance to heal and grow. (Plus..... she's a late birthday) The K teachers, as well as her pediatrician (and us) all...

ARCHIVED Phew, Glad That's Over!
jayhawkmom replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Penguin... I'm jumpin' in on your thread.... since I'm having mine on Friday. I'm glad to hear it went so well for you. I'm also glad to read that your doctor prescribed a strict gluten-free diet immediately, without waiting for the results. Mine also said the same thing.... he said that if I'm consuming gluten.... Thursday will be the last day I'll... -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like I said... I really like this doctor. He's actually speaking at our next CSA meeting. I guess those who have not been able to get an appointment with him (for whatever reason) are really looking forward to hearing him talk. I have waited a fair amount of time.... I made the appointment several months ago, long before I had any idea that a gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have thought more and more about this.... and you are all right. I ate quite a bit of gluten last night... and I feel like Violet - the blueberry girl in Willy Wonka. I can't/won't eat any more. If he's really looking for something else.... I don't need to poison myself. But, my husband really wants me to have this done. I know he doesn't want me... -
Yes. I'm being tested because my 5 year old daughter has celiac disease. So, myself, daughter, and youngest son are gluten-free.

I will never be able to catch up....but Morgan, why cutting out sugar?? I'm just curious. I saw the GI today (see post under pre-diagnosis) and he put me on a "no table sugar" diet. He gave me a whole list of things I should avoid, due to the oh-so-lovely ibs issue. But, I won't discuss that here.... just curious about the sugar thing. And, Jessica...

ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I finally saw the GI today. He asked me a million questions (or so it seemed) and carefully reviewed my blood tests and my medical history. We discussed my daughter's issues... and he DX me with IBS. And, then he went on to say that with the results of my blood tests - he would not at all be surprised if Celiac was a part of my problem. He "thumped... -
ARCHIVED All After Having The Last Baby
jayhawkmom replied to thenamesbabe's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The third child is who did me in too!! I've had some issues my whole life, but nothing like what I've experience since the birth of my 3rd child last August. (He'll be ONE on Thursday!!!) I just saw the GI this morning... and my head is just spinning. -
