  1. Hi Kimberlee - there you are!! =) =)
  2. I practically live at Whole FOods and Wild Oats! I'm glad you found one! =) And, good luck to your husband!
  3. Hi Monica. Yes, big KU fans, yes...we live near Lawrence - we are in the KC Metro. My 8 year old was tested a few years ago, but not recently. He doesn't have any outward symptoms but I do (now) realize that it's not necessary to HAVE outward symptoms. At 2, his pediatrician sent us for testing since he hadn't really gained much weight between 1 and 2. Then...
  4. OH, that's a great idea!!!!! I want to wish you a very happy birthday!!! I know how you are feeling, tomorrow is my birthday - and I'm sure it'll be cakeless. And, I have to admit.... I love cake. =(
  5. Carrie - I'm just now seeing this, but wanted to let you know that I just went through a very similar situation! My problem was shrimp..... We were out to dinner, and I ordered a dish that I KNEW was gluten-free - from looking at the menu online, but forgot (or failed to realize) that there was shrimp in it. I've never eaten shrimp as I had a positive...
  6. Dietary requirements should not be an issue in the hospital. If you are diabetic, they don't ask for "proof" to feed you a diabetic diet. If you are a vegetarian, they don't require paperwork to avoid meat. A gluten free diet should be just as easy for a hospital staff to accomodate. =) I've only been hospitalized 3 times, all 3 for pregnancy - and all...
  7. Oh my gosh, I could have written that. Once dx with depression, I started having anxiety attacks. So, I was put on Xanax - only when I feel like I "need" it. Maybe I should post a list of my symptoms, just for fun. Why is it that when someone really does NOT feel well, and doctor 1 can't find a problem, they just assume there is absolutely nothing...
  8. I'm still pretty new to this forum - so I wasn't here during the beginning of the doctor/hospital visits for our daughter. Briefly... at 22 months, my daughter weighed 28 lbs. On May 18th, at 2 months away from her 5th birthday - she weighed 30 lbs. The last time her height was checked, she was 39" tall. She wasn't even ON the growth charts. She'd completely...
  9. I'm paying for a plane ticket, hotel for 2 nights, car rental...and incidentals. That's how important I felt it was for me to be there. Not to mention, dh has to take some time off of work to stay home with the 3 kids. No way could we afford for all of us to fly to California for a weekend. =) I really wanted to take my daughter, but she *just* turned...
  10. Hmmm, I think I need to be talking to you. My daughter is pretty much in the same boat. No milk, eggs, peanuts, gluten. And, it seems that she's reacting to soy now as well. I'm so frustrated. Currently, all she wants to eat is Cantaloupe, watermelon, and McDonalds fries. She simply can't go on like this. =(
  11. My little guy developed "D" while on vacation. He actually had the problem the day we left, which was July 7th. It's been ongoing since then, really bad while on vacation - and we just attributed it to all the changes he was experiencing... ya know, baby stress. (?) But, it's continuing. Granted, I knew nothing about Celiac or Gluten Sensitivities when...
  12. That's true, and she will be a little older - as she won't even be starting Kindergarten till she's 6. I know I don't have to worry about this now, but I do - especially since I'm the First Communion Prep teacher! That's going to be difficult for me. As it is, we practice with Necco Wafers, and my older son (who celebrated first communion last year) would...
  13. Your family would rather put you on antidepressants, rather than just supporting you for removing gluten from your diet?? Are you and I related, somehow?? I actually AM on antidepressants, after being DX with postpardum depression after the birth of my 3rd child. Why after the 3rd? And, not the first two?? I have no idea. Why all of a sudden am...
  14. We buy Earth's Best baby foods. While a lot of the "older baby" foods do have pasta, there are also some good alternatives such as Cinnamon Sweet Potato Bisque, Lentil and Veggie Dinner, and things like that. My disclaimer is that my 11 month old is not gluten-free. But, I have been trying harder to pay close attention to what he's eating, because he...
  15. I just spent two nights with my inlaws. My FIL was *great* not to give my daughter any food without asking me first. My MIL, however... not so much. Granted, she seems to "get it" but yet, she didn't seem nearly as concerned as I am. So, my dh and I decided to forgo even going to the MOVIES since I wasn't 110% convinced she'd be ok. I'm sure as your child...
  16. I've always thought I was lactose intolerant. Sometimes I'd be fine, other times... I wouldn't. (But like a dummy, I'd still consume dairy) I've been gluten-free for a week now (ok, 5 days), and every time I consume anything with dairy, ohhhh the gas, the bloating, and the PAIN! I'm wondering... could the lactose issue be exaggerated by the fact...
  17. I will be seeing him speak at Stanford in September! =) Open Original Shared Link I wish I could see him as a patient.
  18. The hosts used in Catholic churches don't crumb easily, unless broken. And, the only person who can fraction the host is the Priest. But, when the Priest does break the host, and if there *are* any crumbs, they'll fall into the paten. And, I guess it would be possible for someone to get a crumb on their mouth, and then contaminate the chalice. I really...
  19. I'm not a teenager, so I'm not sure how I ended up here... but I do have small children, and a child like love of cereal. So, I thought I'd comment. I LOVE Envirokids Koala Crunch. It's chocolately - and turns the milk chocolaty!! And, it makes great "rice krispy-like" treats! =)
  20. In the Catholic faith, it's NOT symbolism. They are the body and blood of the Lord, not just symbols. And, a host without ANY wheat can't be consecrated, and therefore would not be considered the "body of Christ." The church does approve of the extremely low gluten hosts, but not the "no gluten" hosts. So, for a Celiac who won't risk that tiny amount of...
  21. Rice Krispies are a nono. But, Envirokids Koala Crunch is a rice krispy like cereal, but chocolate. And, they would make YUMM-O rice krispy treats!
  22. This may be really dumb, but here goes.... Now, I understand that different labs have different ranges for normal/abnormal reference units. But, my question is.... even within the "normal" limits, if one wasn't reacting at ALL to gluten, wouldn't ALL the numbers be zero?? Doesn't *any* number show some sort of reaction, especially when referring to...
  23. There is a conference at Stanford - in September. Danna Korn is speaking! Saturday, September 16, 2006 GENERAL PROGRAM 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Registration & Gluten Free Continental Breakfast 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Welcoming and Opening of Conference - Eric Sibley, M.D., Ph.D. 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Peter...
  24. OK, I'm from the KC Metro, so I've got the agressive driving thing down pretty well. Though, I'm sure I still don't rank up there at all with Californians!
  25. Yep, when I've been getting my quotes, I've been looking at San Jose rather than San Fran!! =) I've got a decent quote, now I just have to wait for my paycheck at the end of the month!!!!
