ARCHIVED Everybody Eats
jayhawkmom replied to lapetit8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's terrible!!! I'm so very sorry that happened to you!! We are lucky that we have a gluten-free/DF baker near our home. She's just getting started, really - but her business is picking up rapidly!! She baked my daughter's gluten-free/CF cupcakes, and she's making my little boy a cupcake cake - also gluten-free/cf! I'm not a baker... I can ruin... -

ARCHIVED Starbucks Gluten-free Cookie?
jayhawkmom replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We must have read that in the same place... I also just read that. And, felt happy for 2 seconds until I saw the words "Peanut Butter" -- and then I got upset. Since, it's a peanut butter whoopie pie. =( For someone who can't eat peanuts, gluten free or not... it "ain't no treat." =( Feelin' a bit let down..... -
ARCHIVED Any gluten-free/df Pizza Out There?
jayhawkmom replied to IrishKelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It tastes more like "real" mozzarella when it's melted. The smell right out of the package is a bit funky... and it tastes a little plasticy before it's baked. But, I think the taste changes with melting. I've never seen lactaid brand cheese. Where in the world can I find that??? My daughter would be THRILLED!!! -
ARCHIVED Crippling Exhaustion/oversleeping
jayhawkmom replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm one of the ones who suffers from debilitating exhaustion and fatigue. It's getting better since going gluten-free though. -
My husband and I are going out on a "date" tomorrow night, for the first time in a very LONG time. We'd love to go out to dinner - ya know... no kids, conversation, good food! However, naturally... I'm terrified to eat out. I've looked at CF's menu, and it looks like there could potentially be some items that would be gluten free.... but are they? ...

ARCHIVED Are There Any Down-sides To Enterolab ?
jayhawkmom replied to Susan Kelby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My reason for not going through Enterolab has been the expense. However, I'm starting to think I might go that way with my little 11 month old. His doctor ordered him "gluten-free" as preventative measure, because he IS showing signs. I don't want to put him through any invasive testing,... and the stool culture could answer some questions without BEING invasive... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Chances Of Our Kids Being Celiac?
jayhawkmom replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Having children is a huge deal, whether there are medical history issues or not. I agree that the benefits outweigh the risks... I have 3. =) But, I will add that I knew *nothing* of Celiac or Gluten Intol until a couple months ago. At that point... it was already "too late" for us. 2 of the 3 are demonstrating symptoms.... and we are learning to deal... -
OMG, I saw CATS two summers ago..... and HATED it. I can't even begin to express to you how much I hated it. I've loved other musicals, but NOT that one!!! Thanks, I really hate having my pics taken. That one is well... a little older. It was taken in 2004 as I was getting ready for a Christmas party. I'd been REALLY sick so I did more primping than...

ARCHIVED Why Get A Biopsy?
jayhawkmom replied to Mayflowers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ummm, that's pretty much the boat we were in. My daughter had been pretty sick for a while... with no "real or obvious" reasons. When the blood tests came back (negative as far as our allergist was concerned) I went ahead and scheduled the appointment with the GI. Little did I know that her bt results were NOT anywhere near as negative as the allergist said... -
Ok... I'll arrange that. LOL! But seriously... The Price is Right is better than Lazytown...which is what I'm watching.

ARCHIVED Why Get A Biopsy?
jayhawkmom replied to Mayflowers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello! I've wondered about this too. I am now gluten-free, along with my daughter and my son.... and I'm scheduled to see a GI on the 22nd. If he tells me that I have to start consuming gluten again in order to have a biopsy, I'm going to tell him that I'd really rather not eat it. Honestly, I know how it makes me feel... my blood test results were questionable... -
ARCHIVED Outback-no More Gluten Free Menu?
jayhawkmom replied to jpsych's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hmmm. I may have to try that. I'm getting tired of eating bread with the consistancy of a sponge. But... I love sandwiches, so I'll deal with the bread. Right now I'm eating Kinnikinnick Robin's Brown Rice bread.... or something like that. It's GOOD, has a nice taste, I just don't like the texture. -
ARCHIVED Outback-no More Gluten Free Menu?
jayhawkmom replied to jpsych's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
While I love Outback, I don't like going there. I hate seeing the servers walk around with steak knives stabbed into warm loaves of wheat bread.... *sigh* I do love Alice Springs Chicken though..... I hope they are just redoing the menu, and not eliminating it. -
You'd need a travel agent, just in case for some unfortunately reason, you had to leave Rachelville. Then the TA could make sure that all your gluten free travel needs are met!! OH, my name is Luka.... I live on the 2nd floor *Giggle* It's Kris. =)
-
How about travel agent and barista? What a combo there, huh??
-
I've actually see the GlutenFreeGirl on the Food Network. HOOORAY for her being out there and discussing the gluten-free lifestyle and calling attention to it!!! *CHEERS!* I admit, I've started a tiny little "myspace" page as a way of coping. But, it's a work in progress - coming along very slowly.
-
Good Googley mOogley... gimme a job. I answered Yep to all of the application questions..... am I hired?
-
I just wanted to stop by Rachelville for a visit...and say HI. =) I admit, I had no idea what Rachelville was, until I pm'd JerseyAngel. I didn't want to seem like a dork. But, someone much braver than I asked publicly.... and I must give that person Kudos!!! So... HI! =)

ARCHIVED What Do I Feed Him?
jayhawkmom replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My little guy has had nothing but organic since birth. I thought I was doing something good for him. I know that he's getting the healthiest choices, but even the organic baby foods have wheat and oat flour. I'm certainly not opposed to making my own baby foods! I just wish this poor guy would get some teeth!!! =) -
ARCHIVED What Do I Feed Him?
jayhawkmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 11 month old has been having "D" issues for a little over a month now. I've started noticing pieces of food in his diaper, so I took him to his pediatrician this morning. With my daughter's history (and mine) - he said he would not be at all surprised if CS is the reason for the D. In the meantime, we did a stool culture and he's sending it out, but... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
jayhawkmom replied to celiackids's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter is *allergic* to wheat and dairy. And, she's gluten intolerant. Lactose intolerance is not the same as a dairy allergy. And, an intolerance won't show up on an allergy test. -
ARCHIVED How To Explain Celiac To 4yo
jayhawkmom replied to Nantzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter just turned 5. We bought her Gluten Free with Emily and No More Cupcakes and Tummy Aches. I've done a lot of explaining, discussing, and doing everything possible to be positive about it. Instead of saying, "NO you can't have that" -- I try to remember to say things like, "Sure, that is yummy - but how about we have this instead, it doesn... -
ARCHIVED Any gluten-free/df Pizza Out There?
jayhawkmom replied to IrishKelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hooray!!! -=) I've found it at both Whole Foods and Wild Oats, if you have either of those near you!! =) I myself am a pizza addict. So, I was THRILLED when I realized that I could still have it!!!
