  1. It took about 2 weeks for mine and my daughters. Don't you hate it when they just leave you hanging??? Lots of luck!
  2. Thank you! My surgery was yesterday morning. I'm not intolerant to soy or eggs, so I guess that's good! I am allergic to shellfish, and they had a band on my wrist indicating that, since they said something about iodine and seafood. I wasn't paying much attention, I was a little too nervous. The surgery went off without a hitch, tonsils and adenoids...
  3. I'm having surgery tomorrow, and I just started wondering if I should be concerned about the medications I'll receive in the hospital. I will be under anesthesia for the procedure. I can't imagine that there would be gluten in any of the medications they might use. But, then again.... I can't see reason why gluten has to be in so much of the stuff it is in...
  4. I'm reading this primarily because I'm wanting to make my house a gluten-free home. And, right now... I'm just stumped. There are 5 of us. Myself and the two little ones are gluten & dairy free. We just found out that my baby is also allergic to soy.... so that adds another issue into the mix. I would love to make my whole house gluten-free, but...
  5. It looks like a total syrum IgA to me, in which case it rules out IgA deficiency which can cause all other tests to be inaccurate. If your IgA is within range, your other results can be considered accurate. Here's my results for comparison purposes.... mine were considered "suspicious" by my GI. tTG IgA (<5) = 3 Gliadin IgG (<11) = 69 Gliadin...
  6. Yep, I agree with the others, COLD TURKEY is the only way to do it!!
  7. We've had the Ener-G ones... and I really liked them. However, my gluten-free daughter would not even look at them, much less try them!
  8. I also tried Bards at the Celiac Conference at Stanford. I would never be able to tell the difference between Bards and a gluten filled beer. I'm not a fan of beer, by any means - but it did taste "authentic" to me!! =)
  9. I've never heard of this type of testing. It sounds pretty fishy to me. I've had both RAST (where they test the blood) testing and Skin Prick Testing, where they put the allergen on your skin, then a slight scratch to introduce the allergen into your system... and wait. And, also intradermal testing, where they inject a tiny bit of the allergen into your...
  10. I'm 5'6" - taller than both my parents. However, I'm one of the shorter girls in my family. Most of my female cousins hover between 5'10" and 6'. (I'm the oldest of 23 grandkids on my maternal side of the family)
  11. Um... I'm a little embarrassed about my response here, but my daughter just turned five and is not yet potty trained. She's pee trained, but having bowel issues - even after being gluten-free for a couple of months. We are in the process of working out additional intolerances and allergies. It's incredibly frustrating, no doubt about it. However, I...
  12. OMG, I grew up in Jamestown (45 min South of Buffalo) - you would not believe how hard I'm laughing at this post!!!!
  13. I've become really anal about reading ALL ingredients prior to letting my daughter have ANYTHING... and as proof positive that we need to read ingredients EVERY SINGLE TIME.... the last package of cheetos we purchased had a "contains wheat" statement on it. I was very surprised, honestly. But, I didn't let her eat them. I currently have about 20 snack...
  14. Yep. I went back and forth... in a state of denial I guess. However, since attending the Celiac Conference in Stanford... I've been 100% gluten-free, to the best of my ability. I definitely feel MUCH better gluten free.... my issue is reflux more than anything. I'm taking Prevacid, as my GI noted "severe" GERD. However, I never have heartburn or any...
  15. Ohh, ok! I really hope that I can get to that point. I have no idea how to know if it's better, since I don't seem to have (or notice) the issues. Hmmm.
  16. I'm not Jewish.... but Happy New year to you!!!!
  17. Ohhhh Tracy, I could have written your post!! With the exception of the weight issues... I can't LOSE it after having my 3rd child, and the mild sadness - I was dx with all out depression. I've been going on and off gluten for several months now, while dealing with my daughter's issues.... and I have now been 100% gluten-free since Sunday - almost a...
  18. Granted, this is just my OWN experience.... but when my GI pushed down on my stomach, I had massive pain. When he did the biopsy, he found that my LES is weakened - and believes that is what was causing the pain. That was part of my reflux issues. Honestly, I was dx with "severe" GERD, but I never get heartburn. Had no idea that I had reflux issues. Perhaps...
  19. My daughter was 4 when she had her endoscope, and she was completely under. She was *mean* waking up from anethesia, but fell back asleep - and then once she really woke up, she was great, no problems at all. It's horribly nervewracking to have your child go through any medical procedure. But, I do think it's worse for the mom who's sitting in the waiting...
  20. Ursula, Would you mind if I contacted you, personally, regarding some "Aspie" issues? When my son was 4, his pediatrician sent us for a full developmental screening - he was convinced that Joshua has Asperger's Syndrome. He was screened at the University of Kansas Medical Center. We spent a whole day there, we saw physchologists, psychiatrists, developmental...
  21. I actually bought "cream of buckwheat" cereal, after making certain that buckwheat was ALL it contained. I made it stovetop, just like oatmeal.
  22. Thanks. My daughter has been gluten-free since June, so I'm getting pretty good about finding substitutions. We LOVE the Glutino Pretzals. I can't get my son to eat them though. Ursula... I've been told that before, much to my dismay. So, if he refuses to eat anything else.... how in the world do I get him to eat anything else?? Since he has no outward...
  23. Somehow, I had not seen this thread until today. My older son, age 8, was dx with Sensory Integration Dysfunction at about 4 years of age. He was language delayed as well. He's been tested for Celiac and gluten intolerance, twice. All results come back as negative as they can possibly get. We were, of course, relieved. (He had all his testing done with...
  24. Same here. In fact, I just had some buckwheat with bananas for breakfast. YUM!!! I actually am 1 year postpardum - and I have only lost about 20 of the 70 lbs I gained during pregnancy. I'm now blaming the corn, potatoes, and rice for not being able to lose any more weight. So, I'm going to leave them behind for a while, and eat Buckwheat, Amaranth, and...
  25. I don't know what brand mine is...but I don't rinse the rice because it washes away the bran. That's where all the nutrients are. Mine does have a nonstick surface though, so I'm sure that helps. Mine is a small one, so if you are in need of a bigger/better one, whatever I have isn't going to help ya much. GOod luck!!
