  1. Oh, that was just too funny!!!! From what I've found... elevated IgG and IgA levels could be indicative of "other leaky gut issues." From the American Celiac Disease Alliance: Antigliadin antibodies The antigliadin antibodies IgG and IgA recognize a small piece of the gluten protein called gliadin. These antibodies became available during...
  2. I do not know the answer to your questions. But, I will share this with you. My older son, who is almost 9, was tested at 2 and 4.... both negative. He was tested just last week....and at 8, he tested positive. So, I do agree that if you have it.... and your children test negative, you might want to repeat it every couple of years. A "dh" style...
  3. Cherrybrook Kitchens Chocolate Cake. MmMMmmMm!
  4. Thank you for the well wishes. I don't think that anything other than Celiac causes an elevated tTg. I sure could be wrong, and hopefully someone else will correct that, if I am. But, I do think that any elevated outside of the normal range is positive, even if it's just by a couple. My other two children are gluten free.... my 5 year old had (highly...
  5. Yea... bittersweet for sure. I was hoping for a negative, on one hand.... just so he would not have to deal with this his entire life. However, on the other hand... I was hoping we'd have some answers to the stomach problems and the attitude changes. So, I'm both sad and relieved at the same time - if that makes any sense. FWIW - I was really surprised...
  6. Blood tests for my oldest child are positive. I'm not even going to bother with endoscopy and biopsy for him, since everyone else in my household is already gluten-free. I feel sad for him, but - I am also *slightly* relieved, as this will make my life so much easier if we are ALL gluten free. tTg (<3) = 5 AG IgG AB's = (<11) = 13 AG IgA AB's...
  7. tTG-IgA or tissue transglutaminase-IgA AGA-IgG or Antigliadin IgG AGA-IgA or Antigliadin IGA Total IGA This is a full Celiac panel - so it looks as if your doctor didn't run ALL the necessary tests. Though, the numbers presented there do indicate a negative blood test. However, without a total syrum IgA - it's not known whether or not your child...
  8. First, you will have to tell us what the reference ranges are. All labs have different standards. I know that Enterolab - anything OVER 10 is positive. With the lab we went through, each portion of the test has a different reference range. Example.... the ref range for IgG was <11 for a negative result. (mine was 69) I'm also not seeing a tTg or...
  9. I'm also one of those who can't kick the weight. I had a baby 16 months ago....and the weight just will not move, no matter what I'd do. Well, I found out I was gluten intolerant - and removed it from my diet and started to lose weight. Oddly enough, I didn't stick with it 100% and so the weight loss stopped. I got *dead serious* in November, since I was...
  10. Since my daughter is also allergic to peanuts - and most people are aware of how serious peanut allergies are, I have no problem telling people that she's *allergic* to wheat and anything containing gluten. She actually is allergic to wheat, but thus far I've not had to go much further into my explanations. I'm not sure exactly how I'll approach it when...
  11. Rye, Barley, and Oats are also nono's - so if he's been eating those and gluten is a problem, you could see results on blood tests. However, if he's had limited amounts of those foods, and no wheat - you might not see anything on the results. Honestly... I don't know. I hope someone else can help you and give you more definitive answers.
  12. Hi there. Congrats on your pregnancy!! I've had 3 children, the 2 boys gave me terrible morning sickness. The thing I found to work the best, to combat nausea, is ginger. I would drink ginger tea, ginger ale, and get lots of rest. I don't know if I could compare the two, because for me... morning sickness was just nausea and vomiting. There was no...
  13. I am torn at the thought of a gluten free diet being a fad. On one hand... hoooray! It gets more attention and brings about more choices for us. On the other hand, much like the "Atkins" diet - it's starting to cause eye rolling at the mere mention, by people who assume it IS just a fad, making it more difficult - mentally - on the people who have to follow...
  14. I have three children. My middle child - and only girl - is the Celiac. Though.... my baby is gluten free as well. He's had no testing, but we will do gene testing once he's older. My oldest child has been tested twice, both absolutely negative. But, due to various reasons... has had the blood testing done again just yesterday. If the results are negative...
  15. Good for your mom!!! Since my daughter was the first one DX - I was the next one to be tested. Now, I'm practically begging MY first degree family members to be tested, but they all think I'm nuts. =( I wish they'd wake up and stop ignoring the health issues that have plagued them their entire lives. Their lives could be so much better if they'd...
  16. Took my son in for allergy testing today. He has asthma, so he always has pulse ox and spirometry readings done prior to even seeing the doctor. His spirometry was great, but his pulse ox was 95 - should be 100. So, no skin testing today folks. But, they did do RAST testing as well as a Celiac Panel. now I"ll be counting down the minutes till we get the...
  17. Here's the recipe I make for my daughter every year for her birthday - it's soy, egg, dairy, nut free!! Ingredients: 2 3/4 cup flour (I use Beth's All Purpose gluten-free Flour) 1 1/4 cup sugar 2 tspn baking powder 1 tspn baking soda 1/2 tspn salt 1 cup orange juice 1/2 cup oil 2 large ripe mashed bananas (about 1 cup) 1/2 tspn grated orange...
  18. I think your statement that no celiacs can have soy is far too generalized. Some of us are just fine with soy. Some aren't. Some can tolerate dairy - some can't. I do think it's great that you are passing on information that you've received - goodness knows we all like to be up to date with what information is out there and available to us. But, to assume...
  19. Daniels BBQ has a gluten free menu. We've eaten there once, and were pleased. It's not a nice sit-down restaurant or anything, it's typical KC BBQ fare, but it's yummy! Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Itching

Well, it's certainly a "sign" for me. It's not my only reaction, but when I have wheat (specifically) - I become extremely itchy. Of course, the same thing happens to me with dairy.
  21. I'm so happy to read you are having positive response! We pulled gluten for a week, and the change in our son was not dramatic, but noticeable. He's going in for allergy testing tomorrow, and I will request - yet another - celiac panel. I hate seeing him so angry, he's such a good kid and has always been very well mannered and even tempered. Right...
  22. Kelly - wow... I also have 3 kids, ages 8, 3, and 1. My older son has the gluten induced behavioral issues. =( We are in the process of waiting for an appointment to have him formally tested, again. He has already been tested twice, once at 2, again at 4. He's now 8 and is vomiting on and off, has the behavior issues, and has problems with stomach pain...
  23. I'm sure this has happened to *almost* everyone, whether they'll admit it or not. But, after the first time it happened to us, I guarantee you it'll never happen again. I don't buy ANYTHING anymore without confirming it's gluten-free status. This is how we learn....and are reminded to always, always, always read ALL the labels. Never assume something...
  24. Here! Here!! Though, I'm finding that without an "official" diagnosis, some people (other doctors, hospital staff, etc) don't take ya seriously. When are they going to WAKE UP????
  25. In the cases of both myself and my daughter - self diagnosed. However, we both had highly suspicious bloodwork and issues on endoscopy, but no apparent villi damage, so no diagnosis.
