  1. Like any lab... they'll only run the tests that are ordered. That being said... my daughter and I both had "inconclusive" results through Quest. My older son just had positive blood work through them. I think THEY know what they are doing, but if you get a doctor who doesn't know what tests to run, Quest won't add or subtract them based on the orders.
  2. Half a pancake would not give me any outward symptoms or signs at all. However.... I know what would be happening internally - so I would not bother with half a pancake. It'll do just as much damage as a whole stack.
  3. They've all been getting lots of extra cuddles. (And the 8 year old boy claims to really HATE it, yet... he's lying with his head in my lap or on my shoulder at every chance!) It's just super frustrating because this has been going on for a month now. One gets sick, the other gets sick, then the other. And, as soon as they are all better.... one of...
  4. I agree with Rez on this one!!! =) Jerry - I've been following your posts over the past few days and I can't even imagine how frustrated you must be feeling. I honestly never realized I had ANY type of an issue with gluten until my daughter's blood tests came back "inconclusive" and we decided to try the gluten free lifestyle. I felt a MILLION times...
  5. I didn't have time to do that. I went right from the pediatrician to the pharmacy. But, if Ranbaxy is gluten-free - then it's NOT what's causing her problems. I will certainly, absolutely 100%, keep all of this in mind the next time we have to fill an rx for any thing!!!
  6. Ok, now I'm just angry. Tummy aches are definitely a side effect of this medication, but she can't move. =( I'm sitting here... thinking, thinking, thinking.... last night, my baby who is also gluten-free had a couple fries from Wendy's - and he threw up all over the place. My daughter ALSO ate some of those fries. Normally, the Wendy's I would go...
  7. Ranbaxy is the brand we have!!!! *Ugh* Now I'm REALLY scratching my head!!!!
  8. That makes perfect sense. But, if you are at the pharmacy and they tell you that your rx is NOT gluten free..... do you drive around going from pharmacy to pharmacy until you find one that has the gluten free version??
  9. I understand that some medications are gluten free and some are not. And, one medication made by one drug company can be gluten-free - while the same medication made by another is not. So, how does one know where to go for the one that IS gluten-free?? I fully admit total ignorance here... my 2 older children both came down with strep. Both had positive...
  10. Ahhhhh, I can sooo empathize. I'd like to say that it gets easier, and sometimes it does seem that way. And, then all of a sudden you'll pick up an item you *know* is gluten-free - only to find out it's not - and it starts all over again. We've been gluten-free since June and I fully admit, just last week this happened to me. Tears were streaming...
  11. I'm really glad to read this thread. I've been toying with the idea of going to Enterolab for a more definitive answer, but keep coming to the same conclusion... they can't tell me any more than my blood tests already have. I know I react to gluten. I don't know why. But, I've had a positive response. I'm not trying to be negative about the testing or...
  12. They are little corn and rice apple-flavored puffs. We bought some for our son to take as a "travel snack" - and quite honestly.... he hates them. He liked them when he was first attempting finger foods, but now he just pushes them away and shakes his head no.
  13. Gerber Wagon Wheels aren't pasta - nor do they contain any wheat. I just wanted to clarify that! =) But, I do agree with most of what you said. I certainly would not be giving a child under a year old freeze dried strawberries and pineapple (which is one of the Gerber mixed fruit dried "stuff" ) I noticed it yesterday and was actually a bit livid. Both...
  14. I have a can of Gerber Wagon Wheels sitting right next to me. Yes, they are gluten free and they dissolve very easily and quickly.
  15. The hiatus is located between the esophagus and the stomach. I don't think you'd be feeling that under your ribs, or on one side or the other. I certainly could be wrong... but I have a hiatal hernia as discovered during endoscopy and on the diagram it shows the location of the hiatus as being "dead center" under the esophagus. My aunt had laproscopic...
  16. I am trying to find information regarding Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch. My younger son had a terrible reaction to a SIP of it the other night. I'm searching hi and low - as I keep noticing that fountain beverages have different ingredients than boxed beverages, in the instance of the Hi-C fruit punch. I am visiting SteakNShakes nutritional information...
  17. Yep, that's what GERD feels like. It's unpleasant as heck. I have "silent reflux" in that I don't get heartburn or the burning throat associated with it. I simply feel like food gets stuck, constantly. I've had an endoscopy - and the GERD has caused erosion in my esophagus. I didn't even know that I *had* it. I've been taking Prevacid to help heal the...
  18. And, that's an even better analogy, one that I can identify with. I have a child with an anaphylactic peanut allergy. And, if someone suggested I give her a peanut just to "see" what would happen, I would laugh in their face and then tell them to get the h*ll away from me and my family. Why do we allow doctors to make us feel as if we have NO idea what...
  19. Is the allergist your doctor also? If not... he has no business asking you about any of your medical history or diagnosis. I do understand that family history must be taken into account. However, what if you were someone who chose a gluten free diet purely from a standpoint of health, rather than disease? Would he argue with you and tell you that a gluten...
  20. Another interesting point. I often wonder about myself. Mainly because I had GI symptoms my entire childhood. Once I hit my tween years, they disappeared. I had "issues" on and off starting in my mid 20's - but nothing like what started happening after the birth of my 3rd child. When they say Celiac is triggered, I believe that the 3rd pregnancy was my ...
  21. Our pediatrician, allergist, and GI all agree that the testing in ANY form on a child under two is very unreliable. That being said, my oldest child tested negative at 2 & 4 - and just had positive blood tests (tTg, IgA, & IgG) at 8.5. They obviously didn't detect it two previous times. He did not have a scope or biopsies either time previous...
  22. Verrrrry interesting!!! So, if you had a room filled with 150 kids - one would be autistic and one would be required to be on a gluten free diet. What are the chances that it would be the same kid?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  23. Tina - many of us do not have "official" diagnosis of Celiac disease. In fact, I'm fairly certain that more of us don't than do. And, I totally agree with you. When I feed my child something and he reacts, whether or not he has a positive blood test, skin test, or anything else... I'm NOT going to feed him that food again just to watch him get sick...
  24. Very good point!!! As you can see from my sig - my 8.5 year old son was tested for Celiac at 2 and again at 4 due to a myriad of symptoms. It wasn't until "just now" that he had a positive blood test. It all started with us starting to severely restrict the amount of gluten in the house. So, he wasn't eating it every day. As it went longer...
  25. Ok, so the doctor's office just called. Finally, after numerous days of waiting - our baby's tests came back. Of course they are negative. He's been gluten free since October, I knew they would be. The nurse suggested I no longer restrict him from *anything* other than the foods he has RAST tested positive for - above a class 1. That means no eggs, no...
