  1. She is Vietnamese, and her information is from a priest who's congregation consists of people who spent years in hiding without access to any structured religion. Should I suggest she tell these people that no, in fact none of them communed with God while they were hiding? That baptizing your stillborn infants by yourself has condemned them to hell? That...
  2. Interesting. I did a very quick google search and found that it was only associated with certain autoimmune diseases. I'll try to search more deeply when I have time, but if you happen to run into your doc, ask her if her info is from journals, or personal experience.
  3. fair enough. She's also Catholic, but I realize there's not really any unity in the Catholic church.
  4. Do you have a source for this?
  5. I just talked this over with my coworker, who's taught Sunday school for years. Her take on this is that it's a symbolic ritual, and you can receive the spirit without actually taking the wafer (or the wine, but if that's available to you then why not).
  6. Different labs have different ranges. Without the name of the test you really can't tell anything.
  7. You could always try Open Original Shared Link. It might be too much gluten for her, or perhaps you could break them smaller to lessen your exposure. Here's an interesting Open Original Shared Link on communion and wheat.
  8. C'mon out and get it yerself. You can sleep on my couch.
  9. I like that line. How many of us get to have more than one life? Most people get stuck in the same patterns and sleepwalk through most of their day. We've all been slapped upside the head and told to go out and try living again. Maybe not as easy as sleepwalking, but a lot more rewarding in the end.
  10. The only exciting news from the NW is that it's STILL raining.
  11. Maybe you shouldn't be eating rice. Try switching to just meat, fruit, and vegetables and see how you feel.
  12. My opinion on this, is that they are different manifestations of the same thing. A test was designed for celiac disease because kids were dying from it. There is no test for gluten intolerance because it's relatively recently that people have simply stopped eating gluten without getting a blessing from their doctor. Without a test for the damage caused...
  13. or make them so heavy they can't fly at you. Hard to be attacked by pigeons with indigestion waddling at you.

  15. No gluten-free cooking forays gone bad that you could appease them with?
  16. Carrots, celery, green peppers, cilantro, onions, black beans, white beans, garlic powder, ham, home made turkey broth. Crock over night, then add smoked paprika and a little hot sauce.
  17. I eat mainly whole foods. Processed stuff is fine for a treat, but I can't imagine it ever being a large part of my diet.
  18. mmm Having a big bowl of bean soup for brekky (thanks K-wren!). Christmas from my bro and SIL was food based. Gigantic saute pan, oil mister, Barbara Kingsolver Open Original Shared Link, ginger scented lotion (may need that after the bowl of beans), and a box of gluten-free chips and crackers and asparagus tapenade. I'm getting them a Open Original...
  19. Or you can just decide that you never want the test, and stop eating gluten. You should know fairly quickly if it helps, and if it doesn't you can still pursue other testing.
  20. Well, I don't have a formal diagnosis, and I don't happen to believe that you are more deserving than I of support. I'm quite certain that I feel better when I don't eat gluten, and I'm also quite certain that that it's not a mental illness causing me to believe this. People have different lives, and I personally don't believe I have the right to judge...
  21. It will get easier for you to get pushy. Over time, as you see how well your daughter is when she's eating properly, and how sick she gets when she isn't, you'll stop caring what people think and just tell them what they are going to do. It's all a process.
  22. Ghastly isn't it? It's amazing ho much that stuff has invaded our food. Sorry about all the cleaning you have to do now.
  23. mmmmm ham and egg salad sandwiches. May as well combine the two.
  24. oooohhhhhhh bean soup with ham. I didn't even think of that. Yum!! Cats are having no more of that nasty stuff thank you where's that tuna from last week??? Chickens are getting the waaay old shrimp from the freezer.
  25. It's just me here, and I have a limited enthusiasm for ham. Any freezable ideas? OK, the ham and potato thing could be made freezable.
