  1. This is such a nice thread. :) I'm so glad you decided to take her off gluten, just to see if it helped, and I'm so glad to see it helped a lot.
  2. I was going to say this. Just put a basket or two into your cart if you don't feel like lugging it around, then put the whole basket on the belt. If they ask you to take your groceries out of the basket, ask them to clean the belt and wash their hands. Also, more stores are getting self-checkout stands. Maybe you can find out if yours is heading that...
  3. Great advice so far. Last night we (2) had salad (bagged, on sale ~$0.50) with tomatoes (on sale ~$0.50), mushrooms (on sale ~$2.00), avocados (on sale ~$1.25), dressing (on sale ~$0.20) and rice (on sale ~$0.50) with cilantro (on sale ~$0.10), stems from the salad mushrooms, and chicken thighs (on sale ~$0.75). The mushrooms were the most expensive...
  4. What to do on a rainy Thursday? Give a remote controlled cat toy to a pirate and watch him entertain himself.
  5. Or you are eating asparagus, or taking B vitamins.
  6. I put a couple nut bars in my carry on, just in case, and scope out the nearest store as soon as I get to my destination. Hard cheeses and salami don't need refrigeration if you'll be eating them over a couple days, and you can make an ice bath using the ice bucket they usually provide,or even a trash can and a couple plastic bags. Good for overnight storage...
  7. pumpkin puree with maple syrup.
  8. So you must have plenty of these in your house.
  9. I agree with the multiple replacers. Depending on what you are making, try throwing in a well-processed banana, or applesauce, or gelatin, or flax seed, etc.
  10. fajitas, using corn tortillas
  11. Your immune system is designed to keep you alive. If your body is invaded by a bacterium or a virus, your immune system doesn't have the luxury of waiting to see how harmful it is, it throws everything it can at the invader to get rid of it, and keep you alive. Kind of like putting out a fire with a fire hose - doesn't matter if it's a match, a candle, or...
  12. You'd just look like this
  13. Vay! Yes ch'gitaem inchi maseen dux ex xosum. Hayarenem ayt dzevi accentom chen xosum. Bah. Grouchy today. Working on the house, painting 'n' stuff. Took a break from scraping up on the roof to powerwash one of the yuckier walls. Lots of scary looking spots. The Pirate came out and started poking his knife into the boards - some of them just kind...
  14. Is there supposed to be a theme? The Pirate burned "a little" scrap wood in an old barebecue last night. Now it looks like an incendiary bomb hit my back yard.
  15. I use pine pellets for my kitties, and they eat Kirkland cat food. Pretty tough to get away from the wheat for the chickies, but I wash my hands every time I feed or touch them.
  16. Me neither. I second (third? fourth?) the idea of eating regular food to keep down costs. You can add beans or lentils to dishes to make them stretch farther without really changing the taste. Mix a cooked potato into your scrambled eggs. Throw rice in a soup or chili to make it more filling, etc.
  17. Pirates is actually fun, and tends to attract men as they love being pirates, but yes, someone has to be able to sing... Maybe the school will find new talents, now that the hams are all gone.
  18. The theatre group is having a "Glee Camp" in August. Different age groups. I think I'll sign up for the adult session. I went to the rehearsal for Pirates of Penzance last night. It's gonna be another great show.
  19. That's ok. Spices get old and lose their flavor anyway. You're better off with new, fresh stuff.
  20. I think there are probably as many reasons to read a blog as there are blog ideas. I understand the following a friend's blog thing, and the recipes, and I guess I can see following blogs of favorite authors, although I never thought about it, or even the ones about your special interest, but I can never read more than a few posts of someone's stuff before...
