ARCHIVED Social Behavior -add, Aspergers Etc.
Jestgar replied to gfp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I realize the choices for staying with or leaving a spouse are very complex and even though my desire is to say "Toss the M####er F####er out on his @$$." You obviously get some benefit from the relationship as you have chosen to stay with him. Hopefully you'll soon be able to say, No, you're wrong, I'm good for a lot of things. But thanks for thinking... -

I can come up with an amazing interpretation of data, but the only extremity I know is my right hand. Everything else I have to figure out by elimination. eg instruction:move your left foot. me: right hand, other one must be left hand, right below that must be left foot. Good thing I never had aspirations to be a dancer -

I find it interesting to compare and contrast Ursula's, gfp's and my experiences. Granted Ursula feels she is at an extreme of the non-standard socializing spectrum, but I still think it's valid to include her in the comparison. Ursula has stated that she was made to feel inadequate as a child and had to struggle to be "good enough". gfp felt as though... -
ARCHIVED What Questions Do You Ask At A Restaurant?
Jestgar replied to wozzy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I say: "Hi, I'm going to be one of those pain in the neck customers. I can't eat anything with wheat, barley, rye or oats in it. (Wait for waitperson to write it down.) I'm considering these two entrees (name choices). Can you find out for me if these are, or can be, made without wheat, barley, rye or oats?" I then wait for the waitperson to go... -

This is a very interesting thread. gfp, I just read through your analysis of different events and some of them are similar to experiences and emotions that I have/had. Part of my issues I think are related to being a scientist and not really being interested in anything I'm not studying or can't learn from - like sports. However, for the last few years... -
My niece used to get horrible cold sores when she was young. She started taking Lysine for them and now she never has a problem. I don't know where she got that info from so I can't tell you if there is a good chance it'll help or may be just a last ditch effort.

Thanks for sharing the info gfp. I am the same on gluten, but it never occurred to me to link it directly with gluten. I thought maybe I just felt so crappy I didn't want to see anyone, but since that's not true of other times I feel crappy... A curious world we find ourselves in -
ARCHIVED Anybody Else A Scientist?
Jestgar replied to lpellegr's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I work with RNA which is far more sensitive to cross-contamination than I am, but I am finally glad that my near paranoid need to have clean eating tools is coming in handy. (I wash every single tine of every single fork) -
ARCHIVED Teeth
Jestgar replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have really bad gums. I've convinced my dentist to give me 6 months gluten free to see if my gums improve. It seems to me that the whole body inflammation that comes along with gluten intolerence could affect a lot of things. -

I am always amazed at the strength of women who find themselves in intolerable situations and yet manage to survive. Amanda's Mommy, you are more than strong. You carry the weight of a husband who will not care for himself and two children who cannot. On top of this you and your children have other health considerations. I am overwhelmed by the strength...

ARCHIVED Elisa/act Test
Jestgar replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe you can try keeping a diary of exactly what he eats, including demanding lables from what he's eating at daycare. Write down time, amount, etc and also jot down where he has been playing (inside, outside). Keep track of everything that comes out of his body including demanding info from the daycare (they might decide it's easier just to watch what... -
ARCHIVED Elisa/act Test
Jestgar replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to be a little bit obnoxious about this, but technically speaking IgE is an allergic response, IgG is an immune response. Although in terms of what you eat causing you trouble, this difference is irrelevant, but I think everyone should have a clear understanding of what their body is doing. An IgG ELISA will tell you if your body is producing... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Jestgar replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Hiveman, I have contact urticaria (not pressure) and have been gluten-free for two months. I've noticed that the reaction has been lessening, but if I get a little bit glutened the reaction is back to severe. Fortunately (?) I also get a headache when glutened so I have been able to clearly identify all sources. Even so, I itch all the time, even when... -
ARCHIVED Elisa/act Test
Jestgar replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd like to point out that an ELISA to measure allergies would most likely be measuring IgE. Gluten sensitivity is an IgA and IgG response. Unless you ALSO have a wheat allergy, it's not likely that Celiac/GSE would show up. I also noticed when reading up on these that they separate the white blood cells from whole blood to run the tests. I can tell... -

ARCHIVED Are There Any Other Celiacs That Are Overweight?
Jestgar replied to Jules's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I didn't realize I had symptoms until I stopped eating gluten. So many "minor" things went away that I realized I had actually been feeling horrible for several years but things had changed so slowly that I had just adapted to everything. I had issues with dermagraphism (kinda like contact hives) and my boss suggested I might be allergic to wheat. Since... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Dq3?
Jestgar replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Although I hesitate to bring this up with a forum full of very organic people, looking at those articles makes me think that genetically modified gliadin might be something that could be of help to gluten sensitive people. Since it's the sequence of peptides that allow the protein to be recognized, an altered protein would be safe. Of course if it's that... -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Positive Effects Of New gluten-free Eating Habits?
Jestgar replied to munchkinette's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just feel like I deserve better. I buy more organic produce. I spend the whole weekend watching movies if I feel like it. Everything is just nicer. And when do those dark circles go away? -
ARCHIVED Newbie With Story & Some Questions
Jestgar replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ummmm.... me too. The differences I felt after stopping gluten were so astonishing I had a hard time believing that something so simple could be responsible for so many things. I decided to believe that I am not an idiot, and I have a very clear understanding of what my body is doing and all I have to do is believe it. I never went back to a specialist...
