  1. Hi. It varies, was she ill for a long time before the diagnosis? Have you changed out your colander, plastic and wooden utensils, etc.? What is her diet like now, many people when first diagnosed can't handle dairy either and find it helpful to cut that out.
  2. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so badly. Many people have an initial positive result to go gluten free and then find they have other sensitivities, sounds like you do too. My thinking is once our digestion collapses it takes time to recover and to recover we must drastically simplify our diets. What is your diet like now?
  3. Sorry, can't add to the excitement, I am not interested in it or its' possible side effects. I read yesterday that on average, every Canadian spends nearly $900.00 a year on prescription medications. I will not live that way. I think gluten is a toxin, I think it negatively effects many more people than ever make the celiac connection, I predict...
  4. I agree with the above poster, why is the doctor questioning the results of the biopsy? I have had problems with wheat for over thirty years, in my younger years if I didn't eat wheat for a while I could eat it without any apparent problems for a brief time and then the problems would return. I wonder if this is the case for your daughter? The...
  5. Hi. How great that the SCD works for you, I know I was amazed to discover that the SCD was a diet prescribed for Celiacs until the 1950's. I am grateful to find that it works for me too. I spent two and a half years strictly gluten free and although I saw some improvement I was not well. I find the diet a pleasure, I do some baking with almond...
  6. Hi, I've come up with a basic almond flour recipe that can be adapted to sweet or savory or made simply. Two Bowl Almond Cake First Bowl 3 cups almond flour 1 teapsoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt Second Bowl 3 eggs 3/4 cup goat yogurt or goat whey or a combination of the two 3 T oil, melted butter, olive oil, coconut oil....you decide...
  7. Hi and welcome. I can't handle grains either. I understand the frustration with wanting something in the bread/cake department and would suggest you check into using almond flour. I follow the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) and do all my baking with almond flour. I make delicious breads, cakes, muffins and cookies with it and in my opinion they...
  8. I'm sorry you are feeling so badly. I am not a doctor but in my limited experience your description does sound like heart problems. Is it possible that any of the medication you are on may affect the heart? My father, a very active 70 year old, started to have problems like you are describing and he went to the hospital, he refused to leave until...
  9. I'm with Sam, I completely agree. I should qualify that by telling you that I've been married for 23 years and my hubby is fine with our gluten free household. He eats gluten away from home when he really wants it. I know I would have been much more accomodating as a younger woman. You know, nobody is really normal.
  10. Hi. Depending on whether or not the villi are damaged it may be more or less easy to digest dairy, for some this changes over time for others not. You may or may not be affected and of course the easiest way to figure it out is to cut it out. My understanding is that if you cannot tolerate cow dairy and continue to eat it you will continue to...
  11. Hi. If you are taking antibiotics, in my opinion, it would be a very good idea to take a probiotic, if you have trouble with supplements then good quality plain yogurt would also help, or if you have kitchen skills then I would suggest learning how to make your own 24 hour high probiotic yogurt, if you want information on doing that then send me a PM...
  12. I agree, I have come to understand that what I once thought were cross contamination issues were really more digestion issues. I continue to eat foods that I sometimes feel I am reacting to if I also eat them and feel I have no reactions to them, does that make sense? lol Some things, like cheese, I continue to have problems with all the time and so it...
  13. Hi. Dealing with all of this can be incredibly frustrating, I sympathize. Here's my remedy when all the frustrations get too much, I rent a movie that is real tear jerker and have a good cry. By the way, many people have problems with Kinnikinnik, perhaps this is a hidden blessing.
  14. Hi. Smart dad! What they are diagnosing with the endoscopy is damage, you can be sick from wheat without their being enough damage for them to diagnose. The blood tests are also unreliable. This is particularly true for both tests if you haven't been eating gluten. For some years I found that I could tolerate spelt much better...
  15. I've read 13.5 percent alcohol for the dry wine, in Canada (I'm thinking it is everywhere?) there is a scale of 0 - 5 and 0 is the driest. Hope this helps, think I'll see if I can talk my sweetie into picking some up.
  16. I am so glad that it is helping. I totally agree with you about eating early, it makes a big difference in how I feel. Welcome Clearsky. And good for you to have figured this out at your age.
  17. Hi. I believe you. Obviously your digestion is challenged, going to a very simple diet, chicken, fish, vegetables and some fruit and keeping a journal may help you to figure it out. In my opionion and I am not a doctor, doctors diagnose damage and prior to the damage being done we are sick but the tests show nothing. We have to trust ourselves...
  18. Trust yourself, the tests may be wrong but driving for five hours and having energy again is not psychosomatic.
  19. I am not a doctor either. What astonishes me is the number of people who will post with a clear understanding that gluten is causing them pain and yet they will still wait for a doctor to confirm it. I think we need to listen to our bodies more and trust our own experience. Long gone are the days when I would have any patience with anyone, doctor...
  20. I look at myself as an ongoing science project and I feel quite free to experiment, since I have improved without doctors assistance by doing so I no longer consider them necessary. I don't recommend this to anyone else but I certainly no longer believe that the so called experts are anything but expert at toxic tests and treatments. I have been on...
  21. What everyone has said. This is a good place to hang out and be normal, we are all a little crazy here. I'm thining that pretty much everyone here knows what it is like to deal with others who just don't get it.
  22. That's great. I am out, thanks for the reminder.
  23. Hi. If you are interested in a diet for Crohns I suggest you check out CROHNSBOY.com. I am glad you are feeling better, the items you mention fit a gluten free diet, assuming there are no cross contamination factors. I suspect I may have Crohns in addition to the Celiac but I have lost all interest in doctors, I followed the strict gluten...
  24. I am curious. I think it is the seeds in the raspberries that are the main problem but that is just my experience. I am not posting so much, computer woes and working are the main reasons but glad to see this thread always.
  25. Hi. After over two and a half years on a strict gluten and dairy free diet without healing I have switched to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and am seeing some relief of symptoms. This is the diet originally used by celiacs with better success than just gluten free. Check out Elaine Gottschall's site. I realize this doesn't answer your question...
