  1. I have DQ1 and DQ3, which are not the main genes for celiac disease, but I do have celiac disease. So I"m one of the 1% who does not have the main genes but does have celiac. -Brian
  2. I can't stand the need for so much water. Not only that, but the water has to be fresh poland spring water. The date on the bottle can't be more than a month old. It's hard enough just to get the water, never mind drinking 3 gallons of it. Granted, I have improived, but the need for so much water has not changed. Does this go away?
  3. I don't feel great, but I have made a lot of progress. No more severe stomach pain, bad dehydration, severe diarrhea or insomnia. But I was thinking that 7 months would show a major improvement in my overall health. I know it can take years to fully heal, but I'm only 22, so I figured I would heal a little faster. I still have loose stools and sometimes diarrhea...
  4. I was diagnosed 7 months ago with celiac disease, and have made significant progress. The thing is that I don't know if I should get more help from a doctor. My last gastroenterologist was an idiot, and I stopped seeing him a long time ago. So I haven't had a gastroenterologist since being diagnosed. I read that some of the things that can prevent healing...
  5. Try having her take it after a meal the day before. It does take the body a while to adjust, so how long has she been taking them?
  6. I've been eating cracker jacks for a while now. They are gluten free, but are made on the same lines as other products with gluten. The lines are washed after gluten has been in contact with them. So a slight residue may remain and get onto the cracker jacks. I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with cracker jacks. Could they be slowing down my...
  7. You can do one of 2 things. Either try the diet and see if it helps, or get tested through Enterolab. The stool test that they use is much more sensitive than celiac blood tests. Plus you can see if you have the genes that play a role in celiac disease and gluten intolerance. It's like $369 for the complete test, but in your case it might be worth it. The...
  8. I was lucky. It was only 2.5 years before my diagnosis, but those 2.5 years were pure hell. -Brian
  9. Hello, I'm 22 and was diagnosed about 7 months ago also. I can definitely sympathize with what you are going through right now. It's hard not to feel sorry for yourself. I would rather sit home than watch people eat things that I can't. I can't eat dairy because of my casein intolerance, so the diet it twice as rough. But I have come to terms with what my...
  10. Couldn't have said it any better myself
  11. Tommy, My first few days were pretty rough. I was about to stop taking them, but I decided to stick with it. Each day after that I got better and better. At this point my body has no problem tolerating the probiotics. I've been taking them for roughly 2 weeks now, and I'm definitely happy about the improvement. My healing process had kind of stalled, and...
  12. I don't think that your son is being paranoid at all. He seems to just be very sensitive. Basically, he can sense danger in the form of gluten. It's a good thing if it helps him out, so embrace it. -Brian
  13. I have the same problem as you do. I noticed it very early on. Certain brands would make me sick immediately. Now, the only water that I can drink is fresh Poland Spring water. If it has been sitting in the bottle for over a month, it bothers me. I actually get dehydrated when I drink "bad" water. It seems ridiculous, but I'm happy to know I'm not the only...
  14. I doubt you missed something big. Tiny amounts cause big reactions. Cross contamination is hard to avoid over the holidays. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I hope you feel better. -Brian
  15. Ami, I did read of others having chronic sinusitis associated with celiac disease/gluten intolerance. I had chronic sinusitis for a very long time. It didn't clear up when I went on the diet, but once I started getting allergy shots it disappeared. So I'm not sure if my sinusitis was associated with my celiac disease, but I have definitely heard of a correlation...
  16. Considering the hell that I've been through from celiac disease, I never get tempted.
  17. Definitely try the diet before going back to IBS
  18. Combinations of DQ2 and DQ8, or DQ2 and DQ2, or DQ8 and DQ8, are all high susceptibility factors for celiac disease. Your son would have a higher chance of getting celiac disease, and the potential for a more severe dietary reaction to gluten. I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it helps. -Brian
  19. Char, You have nothing to lose by going gluten-free, but you also have nothing to lose being re-tested. I mean, you don't want to spend the rest of your life on a diet that isn't necessary. If I were you, I would have my doctor test me. If that came back negative, I would get tested through Enterolab. Enterolab would definitely be able to tell you if you...
  20. Daisy, It is perfectly normal to have emotional symptoms when you get glutened. You may feel depressed, irritable, or even think irrationally. It will get better once your immune system calms down. Gluten reactions can last from 1-10 days. I usually feel normal after 4 days. I hope you feel better soon. -Brian
  21. Autumn, I don't think it's from corn because they say they don't use corn in their ingredients. I'm not sure which vegetable they use for the vegetable magnesium stearate. I tried to look that up myself a few days ago, but found no answers. I don't think I'm sensitive to corn anyway though. I've eaten it once since going gluten-free, and didn't have a problem...
  22. I have gluten-sensitive genes, (DQ1 and DQ3), but I have celiac disease, i.e., intestinal damage. I don't think the gluten sensitivity is any less serious because it turns into celiac disease. -Brian
  23. It's not that I feel really sick right away. It's just the next morning what I get up I don't really feel good. I attribute it to my body getting rid of the toxins in my intestine. I feel a little better every day. This is my 5th day taking them. After 30 days I switch to the High Potency capsules which have half of the amount of bacteria that is in the Intensive...
  24. I'm using HLC Intensive probiotics. This is from the website: Each capsule contains: HLC LAB4 Consortium......24 billion viable cells (may contain up to 30 billion) L. acidophilus CUL 60 L. acidophilus CUL 21 Bifidobacterium bifidum CUL 20 Bifidobacterium lactis CUL 34 Other Ingredients: cellulose, silica, vegetable magnesium stearate. HLC...
  25. I read that probiotics are fine to take when you are pregnant. I would think that L-Glutamine would be fine too, because it is a naturally occuring amino acid in the body. But I think that you should double check with your doctor because I could be wrong. -Brian
