  1. Hey... not sure where you live, but I'm in Boston and it seems to be getting easier... I go to a few different Sushi/Japanese places that carry gluten-free Soy Sauce -- Tamari makes one, and they seem to carry it here. I'm sure if you ask, they'll keep some on hand. Also - PF Changs cooks with gluten-free soy sauce - as someone mentioned below -- and I...
  2. Hi All, just got this email from Know Fat! 's corporate & I wanted to share it with everyone: Hello Allison: Below is a list of our KnowFat Lifestyle Grille menu items that are gluten free. I hope this makes your dining decision easier and I hope to have more options available to you in the very near future. Please feel free to contact me...
  3. Hi all -- thought I would throw in my two cents, I live here in Boston. I HIGHLY recommend the Washington Square Tavern - Hooray for RedBridge!! One of the bartender's Mom has celiac, so he knows all about it - and everytime I go, they're very cool about checking. A warning about Wagamama -- I ate there 4 times, and the last time I got very sick - and...
  4. hello -- Anyone been to Prague or Naples area (also Capri & Amalfi Coast) and had any luck with gluten free food??? It will be my first time abroad with the diet and I'm a bit nervous about it. I plan on bringing some Lara Bars for emergency, but I noticed most places we're staying in hotels serve rolls & pastry for breakfast & fruit......
  5. I love Soy Crisps.... there are a few different brands that I like -- just check the ingredients on the package to find out!
  6. Yes!! I knew someone would post that here... hysterical.
  7. Hey -- I've been to one here in Boston, they don't have a gluten free menu, but they do have quite a few options to work with. I think I got a Seafood Cobb Salad (which was great) and made sure nothing was marinated/floured/breaded beforehand & was OK. Have fun!
  8. Beverly -- Thanks for adding what I wrote to you! I was just coming here to put in my two cents in case anyone searches in the future & you did it for me I'm still impressed with that Hannaford's up there!
  9. Wow -- I might not go quite that far - but I see your point with his irresponsible comments - luckily for me - I have this forum & many other resources to see that cheating is not good. I'd rather not publicly announce to the whole forum his name -- But he's one of the more senior Gastro Doctors at Mass General Hospital. You can PM if...
  10. haha - THANKS!! It's mainly a blog for Boston people & surrounding that are gluten free so I try to give good tips... I'll be switching it up a bit & giving it a new look soon!
  11. Hey! YES -- I know what you're saying, I thought the same thing, since being in Boston we have all of these wonderful hospitals - I had a visit with my Gastro yesterday and posted about what happened in the Post Diagnosis Forum -- I don't think he even understands what celiac is! FYI - I found out recently there is a Celiac Center at Beth Isreal... Finally...
  12. Hey all... I figured I would get responses like this, but for a minute I thought - am I missing something? I really don't think he gets it at all. He only ever talks about the fact that there is a little Irish in me which therefore means celiac? ughh.. I'll tell you this - that was my last appointment with him. He told me I didn't need to come back...
  13. Hey... just happened upong your thread & see you had this done last thursday! hope the procedures went OK! When do you get results? or were they able to tell you anything then?
  14. Hi everyone. This morning I had my 6 month follow up with my Gastro Doc. The first time we met, I felt like he was very non-chalant about the whole "celiac thing". I basically told him I was 95% sure I had it (my sister was diagnosed, plus positive bloodwork) and he said it could be, but it could be other things too, like IBS... He didn't push the endoscopy...
  15. For anyone in the Boston area -- a Wagamama (www.wagamama.com)is opening April 23! I've been to these restaurants a few times in the UK and always loved it (although this was way before DX). But the best part is - they're very sensitive to people with food issues, including gluten! You can see more on their site. I emailed with the new head chef to...
  16. Hey - when I make lasagna I put the noodles in a giant bowl of hot water - not boiling - with a splash of olive oil & let them sit until they are soft, works great for me!
  17. Hey moongirl -- I use Pantene Conditioner with no problems -- on the flip side I accidentally used Aveeno products before (they DO contain gluten, and it says so right on the label, oops) and had a really bad reaction to it - never using Aveeno again.. But Pantene is OK for me.
  18. Hey Penny - Thanks for the advice. I have not called the lodge. I was curious firstly if anyone had happened upon some fabulous gluten-free place that might happen to be in the area - wishful thinking! I usually bring food to get by - and can also find something to eat at most restaurants, so I should be fine... Have a good weekend!
  19. I am a big fan of this beer! Definitely more expensive than before (pre-dx) - but fairly affordable, at least here in Boston. For those of you who used to like IPA's I think this tastes a lot like my favorite old beer - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale! This is definitely worth a try, it's my favorite of all gluten-free beers I've tried!
  20. Hello -- I'm heading up to Bethel, ME to go skiing next week for vacation. We're going to be staying in one of the lodges affiliated with the Mountain. Anyone been to this area and have any recommendations for places to eat. I'll probably bring snacks for the lodge, but we would like to go out & eat. Thanks in advance! Allie
  21. I wish I could find the Kinnickinnick (sp?) bread near me. I agree with Adam, I really don't like the Ener-G bread - it smells like alcohol or something in the bag, and then there is an even worse smell when toasting - BUT, my sister loves it, so to each their own. I really enjoy the Food For Life gluten-free Rice Bread, but like many gluten-free breads...
  22. I'm so glad you liked it! I usually eat half of it & I'm not even pregnant! I actually decided to make it this morning to bring to the superbowl party I'm going to. I brought it last year, but it was gone in about 20 minutes, so I'm sure people won't be disappointed! Prinsessa -- Hope everyone likes it!!
  23. Hey AmyTopolski... I just made your banana muffins last night & they came out great! I had used eggs & milk, and I placed chopped walnuts on top, delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe! Also, I had used my "Tom Sawyer's" gluten-free flour for the first time, so I think it's good - anyone else use it? I got a HUGE bag for xmas this year......
  24. I'm just going to agree with everyone else - I LOVE Tinkyada pasta!! It's the best. I am thinking about buying in bulk. I get it from either Stop & Shop or Whole Foods or if I'm near any kind of discount health food store, I'll buy there (usually in NYC). I make mac & cheese alot with this, and my boyfriend LOVES it, he likes it better than any...
  25. Thanks lisa! Now I just have to find it - or order online...
