ARCHIVED I Just Want To Eat Some Pizza That Tastes Like Pizza...
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, that's me. I'm hording Columbia's supply of Amy's pizza... So the pizza pan has little "ventilation" holes in the bottom of it. They were used more for oozing out dough than for ventilation. Perhaps a square pizza is in order when I try this recipe next week? Did you try this recipe? The Amy's was pretty good. I put mushrooms and onions and more... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want To Eat Some Pizza That Tastes Like Pizza...

So that whole making pizza dough thing didn't work out for me. I just want some pizza. Is that so much to ask? I also want people to turn their headlights on when it is raining. Common sense, I thought. So the good news is that I got the dough to stick to itself enough so that when I was scraping it off my hands, it clogged the sink. Silver lining... -
It's very sticky. It's so sticky that it sticks to my hands and to the spatula. So I can kind of get a ball shaped lump of dough, but it seems it would rather stick to other things than to itself. Unfortunately the three boys that live upstairs are not bakers. It was worth asking, though.

Ok, I've never been much of a baker at all. So going gluten-free I have little to no reference point for what I'm doing. Either way, I'd give just about anything for pizza that doesn't taste like crap. I'm using the arrowhead mills pizza crust mix. It's the kind that has the yeast in it and stuff. So I did the whole yeasty part and dissolved it and then...

Hey - My doctor emailed me this link and I just thought I'd pass it on. It answers some really basic questions about lactose and dairy and all that stuff. And it answers them in a way that is understandable! Open Original Shared Link -Courtney

Yay Rinne! You gave the right answer. I will start by cutting out the blatant over-use of dairy. But not the highly delicous complimentary ingredient that gets all melty and stringy. I've found that I don't miss a lot of things. Breads and pastas, mostly. And the only time I ever crave anything is when someone has it sitting in front of me. Like a pizza...

Ok, so for way long before the whole gluten-free thing, I've always been lactose sensitive. In that if I eat a bowl of ice cream and drink a glass of milk, I'm probably going to get D. But dairy in general doesn't seem to bother me (I can most certainly but cheese on things, glass of milk here and there, bowl of ice cream now and then...just not all at once...

Thank you, both! That's two more things I can cross off the never-ending list of possibilities! -
ARCHIVED Toothpaste And Shampoo
Corkdarrr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There's been a LOT of posts about checking your personal care products lately. And so I've finally broken down and decided to SUPER double check my personal care products because I still kinda feel crappy most of the time. There's just SOOOOO many words on the back of those labels. So this morning I've been doing some research on Arm & Hammer Toothpaste... -
Penguin, ALL meaning bottled and draft Woodchuck? That would make sense, but I've learned time and time again that you can NEVER be too sure about gluten.

Turtle, I am an avid Jameson drinker and I don't seem to have any problems (except, of course, on those nites when I consume all too much alcohol in general and just get hungover). Then again, I'm also a supporter of the 'triple distilled theory,' in that any of the malt should've been distilled out three times over. And I will continue to support this theory...

ARCHIVED Think I Might Have Been Glutened....
Corkdarrr replied to Lollie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope someone answers this post definitively. I love toffee. It probably, like everything else in this gluten-filled world, depends on what KIND of toffee.... -
I'm a HUGE Thai food fan. I always used to stick to pad thai because I'm also a big weenie when it comes to spices. But my newest favorite is peanut curry. I always get it at one star (out of five) and like to call it peanut butter curry. YUM. enjoy! (mussaman curry is also quite tasty)

Elonwy, I wish all my customers had your attitude!

I've been bartending for three years now. I can see how CC could be a serious issue involving the soda gun. I have personally never had any problems, and I don't treat my occassional soda any different than anyone else's. Granted, I might just not be as sensitive to those things yet. In terms of drinks, it varies so much from bar to bar in terms of the...

ARCHIVED Does It Really Take Six Months?
Corkdarrr replied to IrishKelly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's only been about two months for me. The first week I felt amazing. I felt in perfect health. It was then that I realized how crappy I'd been feeling all along. Then a week later I crashed and it's been a string of detox, migraines, and accidental glutenings ever since. But I still remember that one week because it wasn't so far away. And I know I can... -
CarlaB, funny you should mention that...stupid thyroid. I've been hypothyroid for almost 13 years now - since I was 12. I am currently in a long discussion with my doctor because I am convinced that although I test normal, it is on the LOW end of normal. Sigh. I figure that the thyroid is connected to just about anything and everything, and just that one...

I don't know if poor circulation has anything to do with celiacs. But people on here seem to know a lot about all sorts of things, so I figured I"d ask. My feet are always SO cold! Anyone have any tips for increasing circulation? Supplements or vitamins or exercises? My hands periodically get really cold, too. But I definately notice it in my feet more....

ARCHIVED Don't Go To Ca Dreaming
Corkdarrr replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for the heads up! California Dreaming (and their affiliates) have gone on my definate No-No list, as well as my badmouthing list! It's a shame because they make a KILLER salad (which I highly doubt I can eat anymore, anyways). Surely Mr. Kinsella did not intend for you to read his reply. But in this day and age, haven't we all learned that if... -
Why do you avoid the echinacea and goldenseal if you've been glutened? I've been taking that all day, and buying the humungo bottles of water between classes. Plus zinc coughdrops, and that EmergenC powder stuff. I'm the same way that if I catch it early, it probably won't be too bad. Anyone know any safe canned soups? I certainly don't have the energy...

I went to bed last nite with a cough that was hardley noticable and woke up this morning with some raging chest congestion. It was irritating at the beginning of the day, but by 330 I was in bed with my PJs, both dogs and three pillows under my head. It's already being compounded by a quickly forming migraine and I can only imagine what would happen if I...

ARCHIVED Eating gluten-free In College
Corkdarrr replied to kduggan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you like Thai food? Thai Kitchen has a bunch of instant stuff (rice noodle bowls, pad thai, etc...) and their products are clearly labeled if they are gluten-free. All are easily microwavable and found at common stores. I also eat a LOT of rice and beans. Shred some cheese on it, salsa, sour cream and crushed up tortilla chips. YUM! It's more expensive... -
ARCHIVED Nuts At The Airport
Corkdarrr replied to sspitzer5's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just did my first travelling since going gluten-free. How frustrating! My gate was directly across from a Cinnabon. YUM. Well I was starving so I went over there to buy some fruit. I'm so strong!! Well, the fruit was like $1.50 MORE than the gigantic Cinnabon. AND it was going bad. I ended up eating fries at McDonald's in Detroit on both trips. I hate...
