Wrist Pain A Sign?

I'm not a diagnosed celiac, but my mother has it and I definitely feel better on the diet. I've been on it 2 times (this is 2nd) and I'm sticking to it this time. But I got this wrist pain about 7 weeks ago when I was eating gluten and it hasn't got better. Its like on the outside of the wrist and is a shooting pain, it isn't a pain which causes agony but it is still there majority of the time. Could this be caused by celiac or gluten intolerance? Has anyone had this and if so how long did it take to disappear?

As with all things, it's possible, although I would not automatically assume it was in the absence of any other symptoms. To put your mind at rest, you need to get tested, especially as your mum already has coeliac disease. Don't forget, some Coeliacs don't actually have any symptoms.

In order to get tested though, you need to be eating gluten and wheat for at least 6 weeks for it to show up.

I would not associate lone wrist pain to Celiac. If you had pain in multiple joints, that could link up.

How long did you try the diet the first time?  Did you have relief of symptoms then?  What is your intention starting the diet again?  And do you have active symptoms/issues that are leading you to think the diet will help you?

These questions will help determine your future course of action and the fortitude to follow thru.

Good luck in your quest for health.

I had wrist pain for years, diagnosed as repetitive strain injury.  It knocked on to my arm, shoulder and neck.

I helped a lot by stopping work which involved typing, but since I have beenn gluten-free (Sept 12) I have had a massive improvement. I have also had improvement in migraine and plantar faciitis, so I think I am attributing the improvement to a general reduction in inflamation.

When I get glutened (soyed, dairied) it all comes right back.

I'd agree with flowerqueen that if you want to get blood tested it can be easier to do it while on gluten, especially as you know it may be there in your genetics. The gene test doesen't require eating gluten, but only tells you if you are in a likely category for developing the disease. Then those of us who are Non Celiac Gluten Intolerant, who don't show up on any tests (yet!!)

Hope you get the wrist sorted, not much fun.

My blood rtest came back negative, so I didn't do anymore testing and I was first on the diet for about 2 months and noticed my digestive issues were improving, this is my 2nd week back on the diet now and I intend to just stick at it for good.

I'm hoping you find that your commitment to the diet will resolve many symptoms for you and like a lot of us, resolve things we didn't even realize were wrong.

Congratulations, and we are here to help you along.

Brilliant!

I am NCGI (apparently!!) and I am in for life too - feels good doesn't it?

I have had all sorts of symptoms resolve since September, and even more since January, when I started a 'clean' paleoish diet

Our support groups in Iowa have tried for years to educate doctors and resource sites like this one.  We have held yearly conferences with continued education classes.   We have brought in Dr. Murray, Dr. Fasano, Dr. Green and Dr. elliott.  In those many years we may have had 2 doctors attend.  We sent them information, with no response.  I talked to my personal doctor and she said their training for Celiac was to show them a skinny man in boxer shorts and a huge stomach.  Saying if you see this, it is Celiac.  If it isn't in their playbook then they don't care.  Most call it an allergy with no mention of our immune system.  There is so much false information on the internet.  Then people don't understand why they can't get well and are acquiring more immune diseases. I mention this site to everyone.  Scott has working hard for the Celiac community.

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch:

You might also consider a low iodine diet as iodine is know to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. But be careful with that as well as there are health problems that can accrue from iodine deficiency.

Hi, Yes, the rash has gone. I still get the itches but there is nothing to see now, apart from a lot of discoloured areas where the rash was worst. Occasionally I get a single lump come up, a bit like hives, but no bigger than a pea and it goes after 24hrs and a steroid cream application.  And yes, giving the gluten-free diet 110%. Very careful about any cross contamination.  This is my fifth autoimmune condition so well and truly on that bandwagon.
