Corn

Corn gives me the same symptoms as being glutened.  Really ticks me off b/c it's in every single processed food in this country.  With that said, I need some corn free pain reliever.  How would I get a RX for this so I could get it filled at a compounding pharmacy.  I asked my gastro's nurse and she said take Tylenol...it's a small amount of corn..........yeah......um...ok..tell this to my gut and my migraine.

Anyone know?

I went to the free clinic and explained my problem to the doctor there. (I couldn't see paying for a $100 plus office visit just so I could get a prescription.) Not only did he write me a 'script, but I found the only doctor I would ever trust by doing so. He spent over an hour with me, and I found out he does that with every patient! He's the one who accepted MY diagnosis of celiac, based on results from the diet plus family history. He's also the one who sent me to his nutritionist (at his regular practice) and told her to go easy on me because I was broke. I can't even remember now, but I THINK that after spending 2 1/2 hours with me, she charged ten bucks. I gave her twenty and felt guilty about it, but I really was broke at the time, and so grateful to have found these people.

Do NOT take regular Tylenol!! It will only make your pain worse. If your gastro's nurse refused, you should insist on talking to the doctor himself. If he won't do it, maybe you can try another doctor - your GP, or even check out a free clinic near you.

Thanks Bart. What a wonderful doctor you found!!!!  I hear ya about the regular Tylenol making my pain worse..That couldnt be more true.

GP said ask gastro....I keep getting pushed around....crazy because it's just tylenol.

I took regular Tylenol yesterday and by night, I had D 3 times and a migraine all day today....stupid corn.

Can you take aspirin? (I can't. :( ) But I just googled Alka-Seltzer and found this: Open Original Shared Link

It lists the active ingredients, and then if you scroll down the page you'll see the inactive ingredients. It looks safe to me. It's funny though, I didn't see regular old Alka-Seltzer on their website. But even if you have to take this stuff, it'll help with your pain.

Could you get something at a health food store for pain?  I don't use pain stuff myself but I think they should have something there and it might even be corn free.

Thanks much Scott.  Well said, and heeded.   I don't have Celiac, which is fortunate.

Do you have the results of your endoscopy? Did you do a celiac disease blood panel before that?  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

It is odd that your Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) IgA level has bounced from the "inconclusive" range (7.9, 9.8) down to a negative level (5.3), only to climb back up near the positive threshold. This inconsistency, coupled with your ongoing symptoms of malabsorption and specific nutrient deficiencies, is a strong clinical indicator that warrants a more thorough investigation than a simple "satisfactory" sign-off. A negative blood test does not definitively rule out celiac disease, especially with such variable numbers and a classic symptomatic picture. You are absolutely right to seek a second opinion and push for a referral to a gastroenterologist. A biopsy remains the gold standard for a reason, and advocating for one is the most direct path to getting the answers you need to finally address the root cause of your suffering. There is a distinction between gluten itself and the other chemicals and processing methods involved in modern food production. Your experience in Italy and Greece, contrasted with your reactions in the U.S., provides powerful anecdotal evidence that the problem, for some people, may not be the wheat, but the additives like potassium bromate and the industrial processing it undergoes here. The point about bromines displacing iodine and disrupting thyroid function is a significant one, explaining a potential biological mechanism for why such additives could cause systemic health issues that mimic gluten sensitivity. It's both alarming and insightful to consider that the very "watchdog" agencies meant to protect us are allowing practices banned in many other developed countries. Seeking out European flour and your caution about the high-carb, potentially diabeticgenic nature of many gluten-free products are excellent practical takeaways from your research, but I just want to mention--if you have celiac disease you need to avoid all wheat, including all wheat and gluten in Europe.

@Scott Adams That's actually exactly what I ended up asking for— vodka tonic with Titos.  I saw on their website that Tito's is certified gluten-free (maybe many of the clear vodkas are, I don't know, I just happened to look up Tito's in advance). I should have actually specified the 'splash' though, because I think with the amount of tonic she put in there, it did still end up fairly sweet.  Anyway, I think I've almost got this drink order down!
