Celiac In Small Town Arkansas

RaccoonMomma Newbie

Hi There My name is Nicole and I live in a very small town in Arkansas. I was diagnosed in May of 2011. It has been a struggle ever since. I am wanting to know if there is anyone in Arkansas? I think it might be nice to have a friend dealing with the same condition as I am.

I also want to know of any online support groups for myself and one for my husband it has been very hard on the family. I live in a house with 16 people and i am the only one with this and i am far from being respected so just making a simple meal it is a huge task. Most of the time i end up being contaminated. So i think some kinda of support group might help my family stop making jokes and show respect.

Hi RaccoonMama! I'm in very rural Arkansas too... not far from Mountain Home. Where are you? I'm the only celiac in our house, but there are only 2 of us... so cross contamination isn't much of an issue. The hard part, for me, is that it's slim pickings for gluten-free food available in stores. I can usually find Udi's bread and Tinkyada pasta, but they're pricey! I order pasta, bread mixes, and baking flour online which saves a tiny bit of $$.

Welcome! This place is THE place to be for information and support. Whatever question you have... peeps here have been there and done it and will have an answer or a suggestion.

I myself live in Mountain Home, I love living here! Just sad that I dont Know anyone with celiac. But Living in a small town my Mother who also is a celiac was worried about not being able to shop. I am not a meat eater so i am a pasta lover and i was VERY happy to have found Gluten-free noodles at Wal-Mart Made by Hartland. Just wish to have more friends with celiacs so that i can have someone to talk to and help me understand. I was diagnosed in may of 2011 and just in the past year was able to give up what has been hurting me and eat right but i am still learning. I need someone to help me and my family understand more in depth. Just in the past week have i learned that i have to change my hair and body care products so my body rashes can clear up. I was unknowingly using products with gluten in them.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
