Lyfe Kitcken Stay Away

I have celiac disease and had a horrific experience there. I hardly ever eat out. I ordered a plain gluten-free grass fed burger. The person taking my order saw that I had a gluten-free menu. I told her that my order needs to be gluten-free, bc I have celiac disease, and if I eat food that is not gluten-free, I will throw up all over the place and not necessarily in the bathroom. She assured me that there is no cross contamination in the kitcken. She said separate cutting boards, utensils, grill space, etc. I ordered and sat down. A few minutes later the burger was brought to me. It looked like a bun that was not gluten-free. I asked and the server apologized, saying that it is not s gluten-free bun. If I did not ask or know the look of a gluten-free bun, I would have eaten it and become very sick. She apologized, took the food away, and shortly after, brought out a burger with a gluten-free bun. It was quick so I suspected that they just switched the bun. I did not eat it and received a refund.

It is not LYFE kitcken - it should be called DEATH kitcken for people with celiac disease!!!!!!!!!!!

When sending food back for any reason I cut it apart so they can no "reserve" it to me.  I have found cheese scraped off of burgers for my child with life threatening allergies.  Doesn't happen now that I do this.

Sorry you got sick :(

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
