Too Early For This Cold Weather

Last night when I went to work, it was pretty nice out, upon getting off work a little while ago it was getting seriously cooler. Am I alone on thinking it's too early for all this cold polar vortex like activity? I'm still reeling from last winter with the freezing rain and snow down here in Louisiana.  So with that being said what is your favorite cold weather things to do?

Last year, we had an extremely severe winter in Michigan. I'm pretty much bracing myself for more of the sane and decided that I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible. I plan to get out and go sledding with the kids after it starts snowing here.

Well, it was something like 10 below here last night. My favorite cold weather activity is sitting near the heater with a hot cup of coffee in one hand,a good book in the other, and the cat in my lap.

This STINKS!!!

Oh man, it's cold out!  This morning when I took the kids to school it was 3 degrees and -14 with the windchill.  Brrr....

Brandiwine Contributor

Warm fires and hot tea! When it snows we make snow cream. Not a big fan of winter. The cold makes me hurt, but it's beautiful in the mountains when it snows and the kids love to sled.

Mine is wrapping up in a blanket and watching some tv (eg old south park episodes, pawnstars or supernatural before bed) lately I either read, or work on web and app programming over tea.

Icelandgirl, do you live in Iceland? Or are you in one of the northern United States or in Canada? Those temps sound COLD! We're in Michigan and it's nowhere near that cold here.

Hi Ruth...I'm from Iceland but actually live in Colorado. This polar vortex thing really got us. Today the high was 5...but tomorrow we're expecting temps in the 30s.

Its 8:00pm, -18C and dropping. Brrrrr.  It was so cold yesterday that the heater fan in my van froze - I had no hot air blowing in!  The annoying part was that I couldn't de-fog my windshield so I had to drive with my windows rolled part of the way down!  LOL  It thawed enough to work later on after I'd driven 20km and then parked it in the sun.

Its supposed to warm up to -12C tomorrow... Hmph.

Wow Nicole! That's cold! I just told my son that it's already 6F which means we've beaten our high from yesterday before 8 AM! Heat wave!

nvsmom Community Regular

LOL That sounds about the same as our temps up here.

BUT tomorrow is supposed to hit -3C, which I think is in the mid 20s F.  Woo Hoo! The snow might melt a bit!

BRLA is reporting a brisk not so balmy 34. Last night it was 30, while not as extreme as other locations it's still nuts for this area.

bartfull Rising Star

It's warmed up a little bit here. Today we're supposed to have a high of 14F above. But between the snow we had a few days ago and what dumped on us overnight there are about ten inches on the ground right now. I just came in from shoveling and my feet are soaked and cold.

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.

      Thanks for your input.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.
