Xifaxan For Sibo

Recommended Posts

I have been diagnosed with SIBO (methane type). My doctor prescribed Xifaxan but the manufacturer cannot tell me whether there is any gluten containing ingredients. This is not the typical response, no gluten ingredients used but we can't guarantee statement. This is we can only give you the list of ingredients and cannot tell you whether any of them is derived from wheat etc. My pharmacist got the same response.

Has anyone had this drug recently and had a gluten issue? I am not sure that risking it is a good idea given the issues I am having. The one ingredient that seems a bit suspect is sodium starch glycolate.

I haven't researched it, but I've been on it three times; most recently for a six week regimen.  I didn't have any problems with it, and it was prescribed by a g.i.  DON'T take probiotics while you are on it.  It can cause diarhea for the first few days.
