Glutened By Dd Coffee/nature's Path Cereal/sundown Vits?

I'm being glutened by something in the mornings and can't figure out what it is! Has anyone had problems with any of these:

  • Dunkin Donuts Original Blend ground coffee
  • Nature's Path Envirokidz cereal (the Choco Chimps and Cinnamon Jungle Munch flavors)
  • Sundown Naturals Daily Multiple Vitamins with Iron (small tablets)

I don't want it to be the coffee but I think it might be the coffee :(

Not the coffee. I drink several cups of "Dunk's" a day with no ill effects. I would probably not drink it from one of their restaurants because of the chance of CC. (Someone packs a dozen donuts and then uses their gluteny fingers to put a new coffee filter in the basket - that kind of thing.) But the coffee you buy in the grocery store is fine.

If you're new to celiac it might just be that you are not healed yet. When your guts are so inflamed just about anything can make you feel sick. It doesn't mean you're being glutened.

Make sure you have something in your stomach before taking vitamins. I'm amazed that a lot of folks don't seem to know that. And if you can handle putting food in your stomach before coffee, that might help too.

They all appear to be gluten free assuming you make the coffee yourself. Have you developed a corn intolerance?

Iron can be hard for anyone to digest. Take some with orange juice as vitamin c allows iron to be absorbed more easily.

If you are new like Bart mentioned, maybe you should stick to whole foods for now. You really want heal fast! That cereal is full of sugar and carbs and does not offer much in terms of nutrtional value. What do you put on it? Many new Celiacs suffer from a temorary lactose intolerance.

I hope you find your answers!

You’re not crazy—some people have severe neurological and physical reactions to gluten, not just digestive issues. While testing can be tricky without eating gluten, documenting symptoms and seeing a specialist familiar with atypical celiac or gluten-related disorders can help. Your reactions are real, and it’s valid to be cautious.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.

I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
