NEGATIVE <6 U/mL
WEAK POSITIVE 6-9 U/mL
POSITIVE >9 U/mL

RESULTS OF THE ASSAY ARE LINEAR (WITHOUT DILUTION)
UP TO 100 U/mL.

Blood work:

 

TRANSGLUTAMINASE IGA <4 U/mL 18 A

---------------
NEGATIVE <4 U/mL
WEAK POSITIVE 4-10 U/mL
POSITIVE >10 U/mL
---------------
RESULTS OF THE ASSAY ARE LINEAR (WITHOUT DILUTION)
UP TO 100 U/mL.
IgA DEFICIENCY SHOULD BE EXCLUDED WHEN A NEGATIVE tTG IgA
RESULT IS OBTAINED AND CLINICAL SUSPICION IS HIGH.

 

Endoscopy:

1. Duodenum, biopsy:  Duodenitis with intraepithelial lymphocytosis and 
blunting of villi 
 
 In specimen #1, the findings are suggestive of celiac disease. 
 
 
Can someone help me with the blood work numbers?  I meet with my Dr. again on Tuesday.

I am new to this, too, but with both a positive blood test and biopsy, sounds like celiac disease. I'll suggest what my doctor told me before our appointment: live it up this weekend! lol, just making light of a difficult diagnosis. There is a thread above for newcomers with basic tips. I''m 3 weeks in, ans I have a ton of questions still -- this is a great place to be for that.

Thank you....I have already been eating sort of gluten free, which has been sucking.  I will be sure and check out the thread for newcomers......

 

This has only come up on me in the past 4 months, one day I just was so full and hadn't had that much to eat.....just feel like a whale all the time.  No offense to whales.

I am pretty sure the whales don't read celic threads -- haha. i get what you are saying about this being tough -- it is. Today I faced a huge tray of Rhocher(?) truffles -- with gluten -- in our break room. Sigh. But on the other hand, there is a ton of stuff we can eat.

eta -- interesting symptom -- I think I felt some of that? At first I felt llike I had no symptoms, but now I keep finding things where I think, yeah, I had that...

I have the fullness feeling and one time had spasms from my solar plexus around to my back, that's what sent me in to the Doc. Spasms went away but the fullness didn't.

 

I guess I will have a definitive answer on Tuesday :(

We are not doctors here, but to me, looks like you have celiac disease based on a positive blood test result and villi damage! Welcome to the club!

Murphy is right about checking out the Newbie 101 thread under the "Coping Section". It contains some valuable tips -- especially about cross contamination and hidden gluten (e.g. Medications, lipstick, etc.)

My Dr. just called.  It is Celiac. He wants me to see a nutritionist.

You might want to read a few books on celiac disease, and maybe get some cookbooks out of the library.  Nutritionists can be helpful, but many don't know a lot about eating gluten-free.

You both should think of this as GOOD news! You will now be healthier and will avoid all of the crummy symptoms and "accessory" diseases that often come with celiac.

 

And you will be eating healthier so that alone will make you feel better. I used to live on junk food. I now eat (and have learned to love) whole foods. Oh, I still eat SOME "junk food", but believe it or not, my taste has changed and if I open a bag of potato chips I end up throwing it away before I finish it because they go stale after a couple of months. :lol:

 

I'm not making light of how hard it is at first. Believe me, I had a couple of meltdowns in the grocery store and mourned the foods I'd never be able to eat again. But I PROMISE, it gets so easy over time that you won't even think about it.

 

And remember, you have a great support system in this forum to help you get through it all. ((((HUGS))))

Thank you bartfull.  I was happy to have a diagnosis that didn't start with C and end with ER....I was convinced otherwise.  I am trying to be positive about it.

 

This disease sounds like it can be responsible for a lot of annoying ailment I have.....time to get healthier!!

Ditto what bartful said. EVERYTHING she said. Your tastes do change. It does get easier in fact it will become second nature. Yes, a lot of ailments will disappear but it will take time & you are bound to have ailments that aren't celiac related & don't disappear. 

 

I was never a real junk food junkie but i did have my junk foods i liked and one of them was Cheetos - the crunchy ones. I used to love those things! Some months ago, we got a bag. My mind was in heaven when we opened the bag & that Cheetos aroma came wafting out. And then I ate some. UGH!!!! They were awful! And they left a major nasty aftertaste that was so bad I had to go brush my teeth or be tortured by it. I bet you'll find that it won't take long before you enjoy only the taste of fresh, clean food without all the processing & additives.

I found out that my Fluoxetine has gluten it....that is from the pharmaceutical that makes it.  I sent a message to my GP and have yet to hear anything....

      I cut out the rice because it was affecting my stomach at the time ... not necessarily dermatitis herpetiformis. It was Tilda Basmati Rice, sometimes wholegrain rice. I was willing to do whatever it took to heal. Too much fiber also disagrees with me as I have UC.

      But you didn't answer my question. When you consume gluten, is there an identifiable reaction within a short period of time, say a few hours?

      I am only wondering why you would need to cut out rice? I've never heard of rice being any issue in those with DH.

      My mother has celiac disease and was diagnosed with Afib around 8 months ago. She's 81 and around 2 months ago had ablation therapy done, which is a very common procedure to treat this, and has been out of Afib 95% of the time since then. Apparently the full effects of this treatment don't kick in for 90 days, so the doctors expect her recovery to possibly reach 100%. Be sure to discuss this with your doctor.
